Doug Parker, in his announcement yesterday, said Hawaii. Ok, will it be with the A330 or something else? Will the HP 757's with ETOPS capability be used? PHX-KOA, OGG or HNL.

I say the Hawaii flying will be done by the AWA B757s. AWA says they are going to give back a few planes which will mean that the A320s will become AWAs longhaul a/c if the B757s do end up doing Hawaii. I can see the following routes for AWA being added: PHX-HNL, LAS-HNL, PHX-OGG, LAX-HNL, and SFO-HNL. Just my thoughts..................

As long as the HP 757's are ETOPS certified, I agree that it would make most sense to do that flying out of the west coast cities, especially PHX.

With a HNL station in place, I suspect we will at least see some seasonal A330 flying from PHL to HNL. US pulls down at least four European cities in the winter, so it would make a lot of sense to use that lift for winter HNL flying.

HP will be doing the flying. Three 757's are being dedicated for this and all the 757 pilots and all flight attendants are currently in EOW training. The aircraft will be N908AW, N909AW and N910AW.

If 3 B757s are to be used, than that really only alots for 2 mainalnd cities and 2 island cities at the most. Routings could go PHX-HNL-OGG-LAS. I would hope that there would be at least 4 planes that are ETOPS qualified, because if just 1 of the 3 goes down, OUCH! Just my thoughts...............

That would be deja vu all over again. When KLM suckered Ed Beauvais into buying three of their old 747s back in the late '80s, mechanicals were NOT uncommon.
I remember one particular PHX-HNL trip made the news back around 1990--it was delayed about two whole days! Twice they lifted off and headed west and twice they wound up coming back to Sky Harbor. Needless to say there were some POed pax...

dont know if this means anything,but......

'awa'

really is the heart of......

Hawaii

I still have my "Inaugural Service to Hawaii" AWA beach towel from November 1989.

I was on the inagural LAS flight on those old, old, old, 747's.

Those were fun times, you could just see money being lost on every takeoff.

Oh, and we had 4 of the ancient KLM 747's, not 3. (of course it was rare to have all 4 working at once!)

MGA, I was on a 747 flight out of HNL that had to turn back, the only 747 left in our fleet, it went up again the next night and turned around, and was cancelled for a third day. Lots of non employee non-revs had to buy full fare flights back, the employees all got home on Phillipines. Crazy trip.

Kona is probably the Big Island destination. I don't think anyone has service from Hilo to the mainland anymore.

As a US Airways customer and new AWA shareholder, I'm cautiously optimistic about everything that's happening.

And, does it matter which entity of America West
holdings will be flying to HNL? No, it doesn't.

Remember kids, the surviving entity in this
merger is HP Holdings, and they will assign
the flying to whomever they want.

It will be nice to have the OPTION of flying
NRSA to HNL, but that option will only be
available in Oct., Nov., Apr, and May.
Just like NRSA flights to MCO and other
popular destinations. What fun.

UAL might have 1 flight. Your probably right about Kona. There is nothing to see or do in Hilo. There are no beaches (or anywhere on the big island)

Hawaii and a merger? (ref: Hawaii/Japan/747s/CMH etc in the past) Once again AWA is doing something that sounds prestigious or a big dramatic business move but doesn't make a lot of money or sense in the long run. You guys are enjoying the drama but missing the reality.
