What's new

1,700 layoffs announced

What gets me is this.

Does he really think that people are going to reach into their pockets to buy a can of coke at what? $2? Not gonna happen. They won't even buy a $5 headset on a 9 hour flight!

Yes on the Non Alc. drinks they expect that to bring in $250 million by itself.

Even worse, it will probably be 2 bucks for a small cup of soda with 2 ice cubes...the pax won't get the can.

Bet you didn't think of this... but it also means no more "freebies" for the crew. With that cast of spreadsheet loving beancounters in the ClayPot, they'll make sure every can on a plane is inventoried and accounted for.

Ill get em back for you Jim. Ill be pounding those pops in between banks so that we are all more than enough compensated.

I just hope I still have health insurnace to cover the diabeetus!

Maybe the company will get so much hate mail over this, they'll rescind the soda charge.

The best hate mail in this case would be the unsent and uncommunicated type, like taking one's business elsewhere and not say or write a thing.

aint $2 a soda water, etc a little extreme? I mean you can buy a 2 liter soda at a store for what .99 or a 24 ounce bottle at an airport stand near the gates for what $1 and some change. How about the entire top mgmt from ceo on dow to station mgrs get no pay and no bonuses for the entire yr just like CO is doing.

Lighten up about the charges. I don't like them either. Our most frequent fliers already find other ways to feed themselves and people bring on their own water. Veteran travelers such as airline employees, business travelers, commuters know the system.

The buck will hit the not so frequent, leisure travlers the most. So I don't see the overwhelming move to another carrier as some may fear.

Gloria, verify Debbie's Liquor count. Floyd, you verify Betty's soda count. OK, write up that we had to move enough choice seating pax to cover the crew juice...and then let's practice Monitor and Challenge like they do in the crewroom.

The Company has indicated they will increase the presence of customer service agents in the airport to monitor check-in kiosks and ticket counters. In addition agents will also monitor airport security lines to minimize gate-checked items.

The Union's position is to make sure that the carry on limits are enforced by the gate agents and that passengers aren't permitted to enter the jetway with more than the legally allowed items.

I'm calling BS on this one. They have already stated we are OVERSTAFFED and this is before they do any of these changes. No extra agent to queue the line so people paying cash for excess will use the kiosk, clog the line and then have to see an agent anyway. The skycaps will either be gone, or will have to bring every transaction inside to handle a bag charge, theres another agent we dont have. We dont have anyone to monitor the security line and TSA said they arent doing it so theres another wonderful plan (on paper) that isnt going to happen in the real world. These guys are totally clueless. (Oh, and no delays collecting excess at the gate or you're going to get written up too!)

At this rate I don't even feel like showing up to work tomorrow. Why bother if I'm only going to be furloughed in a few months? I'm so over this.
Well in the letter from S. Shamblin in CatCrew it says that in the fall thru spring is when the reduced headcount is needed, then in April '09 we will need to be back to current staffing levels for f/a's. I'm really not to sure that people need to be all to concerned with invol. furlough as the senior people will probably be running over each other to have the holidays off. I'm not too sure that they even need to offer money especially with the vf people that were just forced to return. Although it would be nice if they would just offer a buyout with medical (for a certain period) and travel benefits.

Unfortunately, I feel this is already happened.
This kind of leadership makes yesterday's shareholders meeting look boring by comparison.

I really hope I didn't waste my time coming back in March, but hey... I'm going to have a POSITIVE attitude and just live it up.... whatever happens, happens... that's all I can really do!!! I have moved down to Charlotte, I have an IT Degree which I can use and use full time if need be.... I don't want to see my ### furloughed once again, but I'll DEAL with it if it does happen.... that's all we can really do guys.... just keep a positive attitude, let it flow the way it needs to... pray, and we will ALL be ok... I promise!!!! 😉

The sky is falling..... the sky is falling....... NOT

Who else in the industry has a $15 first bag fee besides US? Oh, only some little carriers named AA and UA.

Oh, and who will quickly flock to the $2 soda idea? Probably AA, UA, DL, and NW.

Eventually, all of the legacy carriers will be in lock step with ala carte fees. Heck, Spirit has been charging for sodas for at least 6 months, and their business model has not been adversely affected.

Those who are calling for a mass exodus of US customers are barking up the wrong tree. Get over it and understand that ala carte is here to stay and will not send customers packing.
