I have heard and considered both slates' opinions and views on who would best serve the membership going forward. IMO.. The challenge the current leadership candidates are up against is the "political fallout" of the percieved sub par agreement at UA. The term "percieved" is used based on the fact the membership ratified the TA by roughly a 70% margin. Another challenge the current leadership candidates will be saddled with is the current state of US contract negotiations in June. The challenges before the opposition slate is convincing members their team has a reasonable chance to correct the ship's (the district's) direction. The opposition slate is challenged with convincing the membership the candidates on their slate represent the best choice in leadership going forward. This, despite the fact, some candidates on the said opposition slate ran vehemently against each other in the election two years ago, yet now, run as fellow slate candidates. The other challenge the opposition slate faces is dispelling the notion that certain candidates have been put on the slate based on popularity vs.experience and the potential votes they may represent for the slate. Candidates who are placed on a ballot based on the # of members in their station. One thing is certain... niether slate should read too much into the nomination endorsements. The tide will certainly change by June 2014.
