Traitor should stay in the bathroom and leave the flying to someone else.  PI Brat, a respected captain, documented on this forum that Jake did not even know the procedure for single engine taxi/second engine start.  Had to be coached through it.

poor dariencc can't keep his lies straight

LMAO

PS    if you're trying to thank me for being a good union pilot, you're welcome

On the real tapes you can hear over and over that a USAIRWAYS plane ended up in the Hudson, and the controller repeatedly calls it a Cactus, yet it's livery is devoid of any prickly green plants.

Will the movie memorialize that confusion or use poetic license to avoid confusing the audience? A big green cactus on the tail would alleviate so much awkwardness.

That fateful disunity of livery and call sign may explain Kirby's departure!

That was a god awful call sign and a failed management attempt to appease the PHX pilots as everything else AWA was going away except one 319 paint job and a few instances of HP such as the aircraft databases. There was no thought given for operational considerations.

It was terrible for the European flying as many of the controllers could not pronounce the word, especially the already English challenged French. Many would just revert to what they saw on the screen which was "Alpha Whiskey Echo" in frustration.  There also was talk that there was a homophone in French which was slang for a man's phallus. It was often pronounced as "cock-toos" in any case and very hard to understand on the busy European frequencies.

I remember some 25 or 30 years ago there was an AWA aircraft blocking the ramp or taxiway. The controllers were unable contact the pilots for several minutes. Finally some frustrated pilot came up on frequency and said, "That just goes to show you: on a cactus, not all the pricks are on the outside."

Hopefully, the guy that made that terrible decision has just left, along with all of the New American Airlines secrets. " 'Mercan" is just fine.

Pardon the interruption, but didn't the call sign change come shortly after it was determined that "someone" was taxiing and flying with all engines and APU's running (in flight as well??)?  And then you "professional aviators" decided to mispronounce it because it hurt your little feelers...

It's funny....when America West Airlines / CACTUS was flying troops the the desert, no one had trouble with the call sign then.  Are you sure you aren't just crying in your milk, CAVOK?

No, I am pretty sure that it was a terrible regional call sign for international flying.

AWA venture into international transoceanic flying (other than domestic Ansett scabbing in Australia):

America West managed to stave off bankruptcy in 1990, but 1991 would not be so kind. Beauvais, continuing the Asian strategy, pursued a route application to Tokyo which was not approved. Honolulu was designated a hub, and the Bird of Paradise service was instead extended to Nagoya on February 27. Nagoya, instead of leading passengers into the "Heart of Japan", would prove to be the breaking point for America West. The route proved to be a money-loser, with the first flight carrying one passenger to Nagoya, leading to an almost immediate service reduction to three weekly flights (from daily)

One passenger?

Of course, you were not around to remember that, were you?

Research demonstrates that the least productive employees tend to be those hired through Daddy's connections.  These individuals often lack the drive to succeed that the self-made typically possess.

Examples of this phenomenon are the persistent avoidance of advancement to positions of higher responsibility.  The normal sense of pride in accomplishment is lacking in these workers.  This is frequently replaced by odd, off-putting boastfulness about how little work they actually do.

The legacy hire who strives to excel as a way to uphold the family name is anathema to such employees.  They resent the earnest achiever and consider them "suckers" for their strong work ethic.
Reminds me of a guy I know whose Daddy was a former Eastern Airlines Captain who had Eastern/Trump connections.

My, my, my. Aren't you two clever with your ad hominem attacks. One being a former captain criticizing a first officer for wearing an official, company approved article of pilot uniform. Another F/O criticizing a fellow pilot for his girth. Very nice. It shows you that traders stick together, both of whom have benefited from a combined six decades of date of hire seniority.

The difference being that one is a former 330 captain who would not have his former junior first officers have the same benefit that he gained in mergers and the other being a self-imposed first officer who would deny captains who are actually junior to him the same right. My, my, my.

I think you are taking yourself and what is said here a little too seriously but knock yourself out.

BTW, it's been almost two decades since DOH was used  to combine pilot seniority lists.

Your west pilot friends are out giving thumbs down.
It is the typical west disgruntled contingent- Simmons, Vasin, Kothny, Burkett, Ring, Johnny Mac.
A collection of misfits who would never be able to cast a shadow on Sullenberger.
10 days west pilots.
Will Duane Giroir offer up his west TOGA theory of how TOGA magically repairs engines?

Trader would side with the gang bangers.
Probably Tony as well. Any grovel to get a ride. Pathetic.

AAL is having a drawing for "Sully" tickets on Sept. 7 in Charlotte, Dallas and LA...I believe Sponge Bob and Square Pants opens the same day in Phoenix...

I can see them now telling everyone at the movie, he could have made it back to a runway.......yea, a little bunch of whining scabs with a very large sense of entitlement.....can't wait for the list to come out.

Going to be epic, right Dorothy..........Project Wingman phones will be ringing off the hook.
