My brother just flew on us recently and said the a/c from DCA to LAS had PTV's at each seat. He told me that they did not work during the flight and it looked like they ripped the seats apart to put them in. Apparently, they did a crap job of putting things back together he said the aircraft looked like hell and the seats were falling apart. Has anyone seen this a/c? Was there some reason it was out on the line looking so bad and not working?

From what I hear and have seen on airliners.net that's an old HP a/c that came from Braniff I think. The state of some of those old 320's should have been a good indicator of things to come for US. 🙄

That plane is one of the few Airbus aircraft that we still have flying with the defunct "Flightlink" equipment still onboard. Flightlink, a crummy system and by no means a PTV, went bankrupt in the early 1990s. America West is still flying these planes today with the battered, worthless screens still in place.

Why these seats have not been replaced is beyond me. They are old, outdated, and DANGEROUS. Many of those screens are coming loose in their seatback fitting. They have jagged edges and can easily cut a passenger or crewmember if hit just right. I am sorry your brother had to endure flying practically transcon on that aircraft. Those are, by far, the worst and most outdated interiors in the entire fleet and should have been replaced a decade ago.

From what we were told by MX, they will be the first to go in late Oct./Eary Nov for the new seats and cabin upgrades..... hold our breath on that one

If possible, I hope someone could take a pic of the a/c with THAT interior............I have heard tales of how bad some of the AWA fleet looks. I would like to see for myself. In regards to "FLIGHTLINK"........another disaster some airlines chose to get tangled up with.

Did I see these on US-East 757's in the early 90's? Did they offer limited games, stock quotes, etc. on a monochrome LCD display? They seemed VERY short lived (whatever it was) back then.

Don't know if US east had flight link I know that CO had it onboard and then removed it when flightlink went bellyup. HP always knew when not to do something that every other carrier was doing. Reupholster seats, remove the flighlinks screens, etc.

BTW I wonder if the Airbus interior enhancements will be the same enhancements as the west Boeing 737 job.

They will spiffy it up with a thick coat of white primer and call it sucessful when it begins to peel off!

Yes, that is the same Flightlink that was on the East 757's.

There's a photograph on Airliners.net showing the old Flightlink screens. Of course, that photograph was taken over seven years ago so imagine a "little" wear and tear.

WOW....Groovy maaaaan. Over the years they couldn't find the time OR the money to remove those POS PTV's?

I think we're getting close to running out of lame stuff to complain about.

Ok, let us sum it up and say that Usairways is LAME overall. That covers just about everything.
