Just the chicks those poor boys wanna see before heading off to war. 🙄

MF wants to split from the pilots; the company wants us to split from the pilots - we'll what we gonna do? I spoke with a west crew and they were doing las-phl-phx and were going up to 16 1/2 because they had a mechanical. Not me MF...unsafe at any speed.... 😱

I've got to ask this question.

Why would you want to exceed the basic FAR duty limitations of 14 hrs without the extra or supplemental flight attendant that should be in addition to the minimum complement of f/a's?

 Wait til December when 100 furloughs come back hahahahahaha!! It is going to be an ugly winter!!

Anything over 1430 is at the crew members option.

Thanks for pointing that out, I am familiar with the contract. Just agreeing that 16.5hr duty day is unsafe.

As for RESERVE going back to 1989, someone screwed up big time by not offering VPLOA in November. Why have a million and one reserves stockpiled in the pantry like it is the night before Y2K? Unless they are afraid there is going to be a massive outbreak of H1N1 over Turkey Day

That would only apply if trips are built with a scheduled duty day over 13 hours. The trips on the west are built with less than 13 hour duty days. Because of this if there is an irregular operation a F/A can go up to 14.5 hours depending on his or her report time. Anything over 14.5 would have to be voluntary. If one F/A does not want to volunteer over then we try to recover by rerouting another crew. If no other crew is available then the flight is canceled.

True...you'd have to be scheduled over 14 hrs to get the extra f/a. But even so...why would anyone agree to go over their right not to extend their duty day over 14.50 hrs? And in the example given...they agreed to go to 16.50 hrs. That's nuts. My opinion.....

Are the schedulers pressuring the f/a's to go over? Or are they (f/a's) just desperate to get home? Either way, that's not the way to run a safe operation.

If the FAA deems it necessary not to schedule our duty day over 14 hrs....it's a good bet we shouldn't "volunteer" to do otherwise. On the East, we can go up to 15 (and that's bad enough) contractually due to irregular ops but that's the end of the road for us. We won't cross the line on our contract on this issue.

Some flight attendants will say they are pressured to go over. In actuallity what crew scheduling wants is just a yes or no answer so we can start working on reroutes to save the flight or work on getting hotel rooms in case the flight would be canceled. Sometimes getting an answer is very difficult and we will have them give us an answer at time of call rather than later which some will consider pressuring.

There are cases where the F/A crew wants to get home and not over night in an outstation. Most who volunteer over do it for the extra pay. If a F/A volunteers over 14.5 hours they get an extra 7 hours pay.

So, if a west crew goes over 14.5, they get an additional 7 hours pay? If MF want's to break away from the pilots, I say we get that and much more. I worked for Piedmont pre merger and it was a mess always trying to get the crews together. Much more smooth having the crews stay together.

What do you all want in terms of contract pay/vac/duty limits if we split from the pilots?

Actually, as I recall the provision is that you get paid, but not credited, with 50% of the total duty day once 14.5 hours is exceeded. So 16.5 hours would carry with it an extra 8.25 as the bonus.

However, the crew must recognize that they will be exceeding the contractual duty day while on the ground and report that to Irregular Ops. Irregular Ops can choose to replace the crew (mostly in hubs) or offer the bonus to the crew. The entire crew must agree to waive the duty day limitation. There are other situational requirements.
