AFA topic 9/28-11/1 Do NOT make it personal

Well i am glad to see that you are aware but I want to know where are the Reserves and when will there be another afa meeting in philly and when there be a newsletter from Council 70? And where are comitte reports? And where is Omar hiding? Can hardly wait for someone to get back with me with the truth! AFA and this MEC are nothing but a den of mediocracy.

I get tired of the "where are the reserves" comment. Any reserve that is in town - is ON call. They are not going to shlep themselves and their luggage to the meeting. If the reserve is OFF, they went home. DUH.

Another dumb comment is the "reserves need to band together" and do what? Reserve rules have their hands tied. And the rules are CONSTANTY changing.

A bunch of us were writing letters to the union asking questions and wanting answers last year. All we got back were "we are trying our best - we know the reserve system is horrible" letters.

My personal favorite complaint from the office was " when you have a block in the summer, we don't hear from you. When you go back on reserve in the winter, the complaining restarts." Well, that's because I'm flying 130 hours a month trying to catch up on bills, then save up for the winter reserve months. So, I don't have time to take a sh!t in the summer let alone go to a meeting and get badgered by MF. And, when I'm on reserve, I'm not going to drive an hour each way to get badgered by MF.

I hear all the rangeling... I see the frustration... And the bottom line is CHANGE... And it better happen soon...

The flight attendants from the east/west must stand up to their LEC's and demand change. For PHL... You better get a Newsletter out with committee reports... That's what your constituents want... They also want to know the whereabouts of OMAR... This is the simple process of getting your elected officials to do what you put them in there to do. Remember they are here for you. NOT visa-versa... Get to know the AFA bilaws... Get to know what the rules of office are... If they aren't being followed, it is your right to recall them. And if JM can't fit on the jumpseat... Then that is his problem, not ours... Maybe he will need to get the support of AFA to retain his flying status... Who knows...

As for CLT, you folks need to do the same. Keeping your group informed is the single most important product of the union design. I haven't seen a CLT newsletter since I was forced to move from PIT. At least MG sent out elines to us to keep us informed.

I haven't heard anything of consequence from the other bases other than PHX, which wants a contract as bad as anybody...

What we have here is a simple need to be informed, protected, and most of all paid for what we are worth. Elections come up in each base. When they do, I hope the many of you who post on this board will take the time to consider taking a position as an officer at your base. It is one thing to @#*&% about it here, and it is another thing to do something about it. If you have the passion to spend all the time posting, then put up your time making the CHANGE you want.

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD...
IF YOUR LOCAL WON'T LISTEN... LET THE MEC HEAR YOU...
IT NOT THERE, GO TO THE NATIONAL OFFICE...
BUT, BY ALL MEANS VOICE YOUR OPINIONS TO THOSE IN OFFICE...

WE PUT THEM IN THERE, WE CAN TAKE THEM OUT...

Just my opinion...

Your frustration is misplaced and Baja is one of the reserve groups biggest advocates. When I was based in Philly no one fought harder for them. As for your banding together comment, that's a copout really. We all #### and moan but we all have something better to do when push comes to shove. It's easy to keep bitching and stick your head in the sand. You want history on how change is done correctly. Look at what the BWI flight attendants did back in the late 90s. Swept out the old and put all JR reserves in office. It's not easy by any means and yes is takes sacrifice but it can be done.

Wrong. I am often not on duty and in PHL. I live here. A lot of reserves live here. And why would one have to "schlep" their luggage to a meeting? Maybe if 100 RSV's showed at the meeting instead of 3, people would be more informed.

True, there is nothing we can do at this time while negotiations continue, except to stay informed and visible. Showing up at meetings and obtaining the facts instead of rumors is a good place to start. And, do tell, what rules are "CONSTANTY changing?"

And? What's your point? The MEC and LEC officers realize how horrible a RSV's life is, believe me. Unfortunately, the Union can do nothing to change this outside of formal negotiations, which are ongoing. Remember the list of ~14 suggestions the AFA proposed to the company to ease our plight? Management accepted two.

That's what many reserves don't get: It's not MF that is badgering us, it is the company that refuses Reserve relief outside of negotiations. But don't let the facts get in your way.

If only Mark Gentile had decided to go to PHL instead of CLT and run against JM....He would have won hands down-------------too late now.

You ain't just whistling dixie....then again
maybe he is getting ready to whistle dixie.

Maybe more like rattle

hrmmm???

What say you MG?

Great to hear! I enjoy meeting and talking to our West counterparts, and am always pleased to learn about the good parts of the West contract (and for my East co-workers, there are some good things in that agreement). I think we really all want the same thing -- improvements for all of us East & West. Let's get behind each other and get a combined contract that we all deserve!

I couldn't agree more.... As for PHX there is a horrible rumor that I hear every single trip and just about everyday I got to the a/p.... "did you hear east doesn't turn in any $$, PHX is the only one's turning it in", "phx is turning in all the money, i heard they all divide it up in the back galley", "We're they only base turning in any money", "east is supplementing all their income w/ all the monies" etc,etc.... I keep telling them just as many ppl steal out west... I've heard about it from all sorts of rsv's and others that either brag or it's obvious by they working and habits on the plane..... I think it's pretty cruel to label 5,000 ppl theives....care to dispell??

Yes.

People are the same no matter where they are based.

To bring such a rumour to this place is an invitatation to continue the East vs. West divide-and a bit like what many have tried to do before-make someone else look bad.

Godamercy! How silly!! And childish.

PHX isn't the only base where money is turned in. Welcome to the multi-base.

I know it may be a hard concept for a few but we turn our money in LGA, BOS, CLT, PHL as well as PHX.

Wake up girls. PHX isn't the only base.

Well aware of that.... just all the "childish" rumors are way out of hand regarding this.... I think it's horrid to label 5,000 ppl thieves.... I've heard of alot of ppl stealing in PHX so I don't know why everyone is thinking this is an east problem. Someone on afa 66 (phx) chat board said, "I still want to see a breakdown by base of what dollar amounts have been accounted for since we have implemented the Ala Carte beverage program." I personally think this crap.

And while they are at it please have them make sure everythng is on the up and w/ catering. I'm sure snce catering is verifying all items boarded that they would have an accurate accounting of everything.(no offense towards catering)

Who cares. Busy bodies...... 🙄

Anybody know if CLT had their local meeting on the 30th? I never saw anything posted, and was under the impression they had to have one before the BOD meeting. I didn't get anything in my mailfile or see anything posted around the crew room...

I did have plans to make the meeting....

Anybody...?

Well, you might be using the new reserve pamphlet/handbook thingy for propping up that crooked leg on your coffee table but read how the verbiage has been altered.
