Has there been a delay in the retirement of the B733's? I had heard that they were all to be retired by the end of 2012; however, I was checking flights from CLT to PHL in January 2013 and see a flight on a B733. Did some further checking and saw one from CLT to ALB too.

They usually load a default or placeholder-type schedule and don't start making adjustments with things like equipment until about 3 months out.

I don't think it was the east 733s that were planned to retire in 2012. It was the west 733s, and that did indeed happen.

I'm almost certain they're planning to retire them by the end of the year with the arrival of another batch of A321s in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Yes, all 733s were to have been gone by the end of 2012. The East 734s will be around until 2015ish.

They are going back on a case by case basis, if the deal is right they are extended.

Current 737 retirement plan as told from recent recurrent:
All -300's gone by end of 2012.

Year Qtr1 Qtr2 Qtr3 Qtr4
2012 1 7 7
2013 1 7 7
2014 All gone by August

Subject to change, but not likely.

I haven't seen any 733's around for a while now. I know that all of the west ones are gone, but not sure how many east ones are left. I only recall seeing 4 a few moths ago.

I believe there are 7 733s left, all East 733s. West is now all Airbus + 757s, if I remember correctly.
