What's new

Damn'em To Hell I'll Let'em Furlough

mr aeroman UAL and the rest have done the same thing as well as the union leadership (if that's what you want to call it) all across this country. The business world has adapted to the new realities while the unions have been at status quo since the 60's and 70's.
union leadership isn't one shot better than its weakest member.union membership is and has been on the decline for many years......
apparently people haven't read up much on why unions were needed....guess they have to repeat history to get it up close and personal.
proven fact:
union members enjoy better wages, better benefits and better lifestyles.....
but sometimes, many times nowdays...people are afraid to ante up for the cost of these benefits when the bill comes due.

You're right Cav. I agree with you but the reason the solidarity issue is like it is today is because of the leadership at the unions across the nation. They haven't adapted and this will continue until they do.

When you have leaders with the mind set we see on these very boards by a union rep, it's a wonder unions still exist at all.

The days of union brother are over and corporate America made sure of it. In the Pittsburgh region area alone I could fill a page of once strong union industries that are now amusement parks, car washes, shopping centers, on and on and the employees employed there are like taxi drivers, just passing thru until they improve their lot with education etc. Unions just in the Pittsburgh region have been decimated and yet that same mentality persists to this very day and then they wonder why corporate America is finishing them off like a duck hunt. Some of the union leaders we have in the IAM got there because of bubba or his brother-in-law the union boss. Then there is always the union hall where you report to work and wonder if you will work and where and never work in the winters, that is still alive, all the rest around Pittsburgh are gone and soon to be the IAM from Pit's U.

Well it doesn't look like they're on the path of change in this country and until they do they better get use to more of the same. Lower membership, falling pay and less clout.

UAL TECH

The pay and benefits I enjoy are, for the most part, the result of working for an industry that was protected from competition, not the sacrifice of unionized labor. The fact that competition from LCCs is causing me and every legacy carrier employee to lose that pay and benefits is proof of that statement.

You and your United brothers would like nothing better than to see USAirways liquidated because you think it would protect your job and paycheck. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Every man acts in his own self interest. ALPA made that clear when they negoitated the first B scale. Save your "labor sacrifice" garbage for the union hall.

What a load of self serving poop...

UAL Tech, did ya "show em", and quit when they dropped a court imposed 13% paycut on you from that 1113e proceeding...?

No, ok then... Your flight back to "No-Credibilityville" is in final boarding, so hurry up and do not forget your bag. <_<

Needless posturing and rampant emotionalism is tiresome enough on here. The last thing we need is self serving advice from outsiders with an agenda.

United has been in BK for sometime now, why have you not "Shut it down" and "Screw(ed) (UAL) Management" over there yet...?

Oh, so it is ok for us to act irresponsibly, but not so in your own case, I see :glare:

Why dont you let us deal with our own issues and incite your own people. Find some old Air Wisconsin and Pan Am people and have a long discussion about your history of showing "solidarity" with them.

Please 🙄

traderjake, rico;

You are correct.
I certainly misspoke.
I thought I was speaking to honorable people.

We'll all see your resolve tested when your DB plans are cancelled and when your management can muster the courage to tell you where the one billion plus in additional cost cuts will be coming from to attract exit financing.I wish you the best of luck but mind your own business.

There may have been better ways to poke his nose in, but it seems to me that your conclusion that his DB will be taken is ironically an admission that the USAir MEC has set an inviolable precedent.

Perhaps if he had poked his nose in last year he would not have need to poke it in this year.

His graciousness to refrain from candid, descriptive language is admirable. Many pilots in the industry would choose more colorful words, with warrant.

Cheers,

Darn, seem to have come down with something...

Anyways, I was very impressed with your sincire and unbiased call for us each to reflect *Cough* <Air Wisconsin> *Cough* *Cough*
Geeze, I am sorry. 😉

Now, where was I? Oh yes, thank you for you "unbiased" support for your Airways counterparts, and for the shining example that your own unions have set.
Thanks

Is this Mr Fish? Anyhoo, as far as Pan Am pilots go, a good chunk of them came with their seniority to UAL. Did UAL acquire and fly airplanes from Air Willy? If not, what's your point?

I don't care what airline you work for. This cannot be allowed to happen. Send'em a message and shut'em down. SCREW MANAGEMENT!

I'm with ya boeing787 I AGREE!!! Shut down Delta and Northwest.

I like it.  Shut down the airline, management will walk away with severance packages and US employees will be lucky to pay their cable bills.

I wonder who has the most to lose here. . .
[post="183770"][/post]

I have a job with the airlines and I had to shut my cable off. I'm not lucky to have the luxury of cable these past few months and I am still employed.

Next?

How this proposal plays out will have repurcussions on the industry of the future. Shut down USAirways and you lose a job. Allow furloughs out of seniority and you lose a profession. Being a pilot will never be what it was if you allow this to happen.

Seniority is all the protection you will ever truly have. Don't let fear blind you to the importance of this fact.

Being a pilot will never be what it was regardless. The horse has been let out of the barn by the unions who thought they knew all about horses, it jumped the fence, ran down the road and was hit by a fuel tanker truck with Katrina on the side. A guy named Kelleher ground up the carcass into something you fed your dog RJ and everytime you smell the horsemeat on his breath, you blame him for killing the horse.

A mass walkout by the airline employees would be the AMFA disaster on a larger scale. Would airlines fold? Maybe. But the viability of air travel is well established and there would be venture capitalist waiting with their bib on to get a piece of an non-union predominantly cash industry. The entire industry-wide reshuffling of seniority among employees would leave everyone wondering why they walked.

When life gives you lemons you can either make lemonade or buy an axe and chop down that lousy no-good lemon tree. That'll show that tree!

Man, don't get so upset, you're going to blow a gasket. You are letting your hatred of WN eat away at you. Your obsessions isn't healthy.

Your post is rambling big guy, are you blaming the unions or Herb for the problems you're suffering from? You're taking about pilots, horses, unions, Herb, fuel tank drivers, Katrina and eating horse meat and smelling your dog, kinda weird.

Your analogy is disjointed, makes no sense and is nasty. Why are you up in your dogs breath? Make sure you're sniffing the right end of your dog, perhaps thats your problem. If you're that lonely there are clubs out their for you, however they may be illegal so check your local laws, LOL.
