"Easties" out West

Not to make this thread about a mini but.... Some people like their Jack and Coke a little on the stronger side or the weaker side. I don't take it upon myself to play Tom Cruics in "Cocktail". I bring out 2 mini's on long flights and then after I set the drink down and place the mini next to it do I say, "Would you care for a double"? "I'll check on you to see if you need more ice or mixer in a few". It usually seems to work out just fine. I have been on a few flights where it seems your on a damn liquor rashon <(spelled rigt?) Anyway..... hope you all fly safe and....bottoms up. 😉

Exactly. I am not into being "militant," but will do what i have to do. Hey, can we get something like bagtags or something, from AFA to let US mgmt know that we support each other? Nothing rude or negative, just something we can have that shows unity. Any suggestions on a tag line? It's going to be a fight, I'm afraid.....but I'm not afraid to engage in it!

Outraged yet?

My signature would be the best!!

Ok, I stand corrected! I had no idea it was that bad out west, actually I had no concept it COULD be that bad. AFA East oversees things a bit closer I guess, and that statement was in not way meant to be an insult to AFA west. AFA east has been doing it for a few decades longer, is all. Hopefully West will see what it is like to be treated with respect from scheduling in the near future....(and no, the are not "our secretaries" not a good attitude to have and expect to be treated with respect)

Yes, scheduling out west treats us like sh1t. I for one hope they move the whole d4mn thing to the folks out east. Lets finally start looking at the best practices and do things right!

I don't answer my hotel phone, ever. Calling my cell phone won't get me to answer it either. The company does not pay for my cell phone and it cannot be used as a leash while I am working or on my days off. The jetway phone is another phone I never touch. If the company wants me they are just going to have to go through the flightdeck.
It's different back west. Back east you don't have to pick up the phone. And I nomally never answer my hotel phone but I thought it was my wake up call. You MUST call scheduling when you get off a trip when your on reserve. And when your flying the company will go thru the flight deck to contact you. I've been tagged that way many times.

It does not matter if it goes east or if they get a whole new scheduling dept. You will never be happy and we will hear the same old thing scheduling sucks.

I just have a question for you. Do you know your contract pertaining to hours of service, scheduling, deadheading, crew accommodations, reserves, sick leave and international flying?

I would say only a very small percentage of the FA group knows anything about the contract.

I have talked to many FA's and pilots who had no idea what was legal and what was not. And I have told them time and time again if you have any questions dont hesitate to call scheduling we will walk them thru the contract section in question. Very few have asked for help understanding it at all.

With the contract being twisted due to it NOT being written clearly, how could scheduling walk you through it? Walk you through it to THEIR advantage I'm sure? I would say that on the east the contract is pretty clear. There are some areas with room for different interpretation but very little. It's pretty cut and dry. If you also question them and the tape goes "missing" the whole thing should be dismissed. That is bull$h1t if it isn't. We had a few on the east that were not so nice. There seems to be new ones or they have rotated or something. MOST are very nice until you try and get released from duty. Sometimes you could be 200 to be called and they won't let you go. A natural disaster could occur and they STILL wouldn't exhause all the reserves to get to me and it's still NO. 🙄 It's all control. When you ask why it's "The director says so". Yeah, the man behind the curtain. LOL So it is that the life of a reserve is probably crappy in most areas of the job. I don't think that ANY reserve (me included) will EVER be happy until we hold a block. LOL.

next time you have a layover or RON in PIT, visit scheduling, unannounced. I'm sure you'd be welcomed, and you can put names to the voices and see what it is that they do, and see who it is that really makes the descions. I think that you will find that it is seldom the schedulers.

Over here on the west if you question them....you still have to take a trip or it's a 'refusal to fly'. Then they tell you to grieve it. period. What's the point to that? You still have to take the trip.

there is a point to grieving it. That is how East has gotten precedents established over the years. No contracted is black and white, but grievences help get them just a little closer to it.
