Flight Attendants Dining and Cabin Issues

OK everyone, are you ready for this??

The West Flight Attendants just received a message on Maestro that the airline has not ordered PLASTIC CUPS and that they are completely out of them at Phoenix Catering.

The email says that the airline flat out did not order any cups? Or were they running low on stock, possibly due to back orders, etc? I find it hard to believe they did not order any plastic cups whatsoever???

We've been out of the cups for weeks on the East; they said there were delivery problems, not that they didn't order any....

They then advise us not to contact management or catering regarding this screwup and that we are to serve our customers their beverages in our small STYROFOAM CUPS!!!! This includes customers in FIRST CLASS!!

Now how would you feel as one of the few loyal customers of US Airways remaining at this airline to be served your Chardonnay or Merlot in a styrofoam coffee cup?? Of course, management won't be anywhere to be found. We cannot even call them for crying out loud! Who gets to take the heat and have to apologize to every customer onboard? The Flight Attendants, of course!

Way to go, US Airways! The one thing we do consistently on over 99.9 percent of our flights is serve beverages and you cannot even bother to make sure that we are stocked up with plastic cups??

It's bad enough that they pulled the glassware from First Class....but now we are going to be serving Wine and Spirits in First Class in flimsy styros!!

No telling how long this shortage is going to last, but it may be weeks. Funny how this airline will hold all of the front line employees accountable for EVERYTHING, but when a STUPID mistake is made like this by management they simply pass the buck and make us cover up for their shortcomings!

This is beyond PATHETIC!!!!

Post a link please (or at least a copy). I know we've been out of our "regular" party cups and we currently have a larger, more slippery version of same...........I've been flying and have not "YET" run out. But everyone seems to thinks its ok! Go figure

Unacceptable... Someone can go to Costco and buy some "party" cups. I personally like the big red ones

I don't doubt that they are asking you to use styro cups, but I'd LOVE to see the part where they say the airline flat out "forgot" or "did not" order any cups...

The message stated that they did not have plastic cups available. I am not sure if it is isolated to Phoenix or other stations as well.

Now if they neglected to order them, or whatever, I don't know the details. That being said, I don't think I have ever heard Flight Attendants at American, Delta, United, Southwest, Continental, etc., ever complain that they are reduced to serving their passengers beverages in styrofoam coffee cups.

Why? Because those airlines know to order enough supply to meet the demand. Period.

I am going to be SO embarassed to serve our First Class customers a Gin and Tonic, Bloody Mary or Wine in a styrofoam cup.

Ok, this is not what you originally stated. You said the "airline did not order", which is probably not true. Again, on the East, they have had supplier problems, and cups have been delayed. Don't know who is at fault, but I am sure the supplier has an amount of cups they are responsible for delivering weekly, etc, and they did not. And, I am sure US would love to run to Costco, but that'll probably prove a little challenging for thousands of flights a day, although fun to watch them try...

Find out if US is solely at fault before you post this stuff...

I do blame US Airways for this blunder. Even if they are not solely at fault. If they could see that the supply was running low they could have made alternative arrangements that would not include stocking the aircraft with extra styrofoam cups in lieu of plastic party cups. They could have contacted another vendor or another airline.

They are to blame for allowing it to come to this. It's bad enough serving First Class customers drinks in plastic party cups. To serve them cold drinks in styrofoam coffee cups is inexcusable.

Well, don't make it work too well. Then they'll end up saying, "we have found that our flight attendants have embraced, and actually prefer, the styro cups for all beverages, and are happy to announce that we will move to an all styro supply on November 1st!"

Just asked, was told all will be comped in FC. Find it hard to believe, but that's what I was told.
Tequila will be comped in first class. I don't believe Red Bull, Starbucks Capp, and Arizona ICed tea will be??? If so, they need to comp snack boxes, and ala carte snacks if a first class pax asks. Only fair.

Maybe we are getting new cups to launch with the new beverage items? Maybe we are getting glassware back in First Class?

Things aren't always as they seem.

Ok let me chime in here to provide some facts:

The standard plastic beverage cup is temporarily being replaced by the larger clear plastic party cup that we have seen the past few weeks. THe truth/reason is that the machine that produces our standard cup is being repaired. OUr standard beverage cup will be back into the system in the next two weeks.

Yes, fact, a SBS message was sent out to the PHX FAs stating to used styrofoam cups to serve beverages, due to a shortage in the system.

Fact: In regards to the selling of speciality beverages come Sept 1st (red bull, starbucks frappacino, AZ Arnold Palmer tea) they will NOT be complimentary in First class. They may be purchased for $3 ea.

Fact: Tequilla will be available for purchase in coach, Complimentary in First class.

Hope that clears up the rumor mill out there.

Well, you better have Tempe get the word to the PHL product specialists in the transatlantic briefing rooms, as well as the supervisors. They told me ALL was comped in FC, and I made a point to ask about the Red Bull and Starbucks. 🙄

I was told the same thing to OSL the other week. 🙄 Good gosh it's just the right hand has no idea what the left is doing. Charging for that stuff in First Class is just TACKY! "Do not decorate your sisters bridal car with condoms!...it's tacky!" said M'Lynne They must have never been brought up "right" in PHX.

I personally do not believe in the concept of charging any first class customer for any beverage and simply think that corporate philosophy is wrong. That first class fare should be enough to absorb the cost of one or two Red Bulls. (Of course the cost of the Red Bull is probably higher than the cost of the liquor mini, the actual cost of which we have discussed online a number of times.)
