It'll certainly be interesting to watch it all play out. Wonder how long it'll be before this shows up on the company website?

No its not cause he is pro-union it is because I don't own this place. If you figure out exactly what was said, WT is telling me (and by extension you) that because I don't work the ramp or as a FA I shouldn't be commenting.southwind said:When's the last time you said this to 700? You do know he post's on this thread, more than WT!
WAIT.....that's right, he gets a pass....even though he's not DL, nor "EVER" has been, he's pro-union!
BTW....when's the vote?

This this
And yet DL has more stations with its own people than either AA or UA..and we aren't even talking about above wing yet
Andvwhen you factor in profit sharing DL ppl will make more than AA in the same workgroup
DL people just say NO
Maybe by '16....2116
this is why I changed my mind. Sometimes we get wrapped up in the fact that it is ALPA or the IAM but in all reality the IAM at US isn't the same as the one at UA. DALPA isn't UALPA. Etc.eolesen said:Having Josh and WT on ignore makes it a lot easier to read this thread.
It's not the union who determines how good or bad a contract will be - it's the negotiators.
There have been some real turd agreements signed and negotiated by ALPA, TWU, IAM, IBT, etc., and then there have been some really brilliant ones that either really screwed management or *gasp* were real symbiotic/realistic agreements which served both parties equally well.
It all boils down to who is at the table, and what their objectives are. Trying to compare the mentality of the workers at US with those at DL seems more than just a bit alarmist.
So WT..... comment or nah?700UW said:
Delta Flight Attendants, IAM File For Historic Election
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) today delivered signed election request cards to the National Mediation Board (NMB) from nearly 12,000 Delta Air Lines Flight Attendants to formally request that the federal agency conduct a union representation election at the carrier.
An election victory for the more than 20,000 Flight Attendants at Delta would be the largest ever transportation sector organizing win and would cap off more than two years of grassroots efforts by Delta Flight Attendants to gain union representation.
“This is a historic day for these courageous Flight Attendants,” said IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger. “The IAM stands firmly behind the Delta Flight Attendants’ effort to win a strong voice in their profession and stability in a volatile industry.”
The NMB is expected to order a representation election within four to six weeks of today’s filing. The 12,000 election request cards represent approximately 60 percent of all Delta Flight Attendants, well above the NMB’s minimum requirement of 50 percent to hold an election.
“An overwhelming majority of Delta Flight Attendants today demanded that a union representation vote be conducted,” said IAM General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “They are an inspiration to the entire labor movement. The IAM will make every effort to ensure that they achieve their goal of negotiating an industry-leading contract.”
“We are the reason Delta is the world’s most profitable carrier and leads the industry in almost every financial and operational measure,” said 35-year Delta Air Lines Flight Attendant Gabe Perez. “Yet, we lag the industry in wages, benefits and work rules. That will change once we win our election and negotiate the industry-best contract we deserve.”

first, congratulations on your willingness to believe in a union vote. It's interesting to me that the pro-worker message is almost always a positive one, with themes like equality, unity, etc., while the ones from the company are almost always dour & divisive.
My favorite from today's company message was use of the word "targeting," as if our F/A coworkers are innocent victims caught in some assassin's cross hairs.
Or maybe today...
And let's be clear; today's call for election- and the ~12k cards that made that happen- once and for all lays waste to the idea that this drive is the work of a tiny handful of activists.
Today, the "no way" crowd is in the minority...
no, it really isn't. I don't know what DL's FA count is but they have been hiring very aggressively for several years. at best it might be 10% over the minimum.... and again, there is no assurance that even 12,000 FAs will vote for a union. That's a lot of cards over the minimum. Hopefully it turns into inspiration for the ramp guys.
And yes, it does seem to have shut down the "no way" crowd.
