You're only as good as your last achievement.

What have unions done lately except suffer from their own PR disasters?

Bent Over a Barrel

bent_over_a_barrel.jpg

I had IAM at ExpressJet and IAM at Continental before AFA took over because (you guessed it) IAM was voted out. Both of my experiences with IAM were nightmares, I REFUSE to be bent over this barrel again!
If you're thinking about voting yes, please hear me out first. This is my experience with the IAM:
 1. Negotiations will take years on end. At Continental, they sent threatening emails whenever we rejected contract proposals. The union kept telling us that we were going to lose more and more if we did not accept the current deal. As a result, most of us never felt like we had a voice in the contract negotiations.
 2. Lets say you had 3 days of reserve Mon-Wed and on Sunday at 4pm you picked up a London with a 7pm sign-on Monday. As a reserve, someone senior to you (a line holder) could call scheduling all willy-nilly and say they wanted that trip. Guess what happens? You would get bumped off in the middle of the night, and you might not even get a phone call. You wake up the next morning - surprise! - no London. Someone senior to you took it. This happened to me many, many, MANY times. I couldn't do anything about it because a senior line holder was allowed to bump me off the trip 12 hours prior to check in.
 3. I had 10 days off. Some of them were "golden", but the rest were "rollable". Rollable meant that scheduling could move them and put you on a trip if they saw fit. Guess what happened if you decided to move the golden days after you placed them? They became rollable, too! Bottom line: Your free time was at the mercy of scheduling.
 4. You WILL miss the direct relationship that we have with management. Any time I spoke directly to a manager about working with me on a trip, or a sick call, or some other problem, they could not do anything. Why? Because "It's in your contract, you need to speak to your union rep about this." So how about those union reps? All they ever did was sit behind a desk gabbing away on their personal phones. This is what our dues paid for.
 5. You want to be able to file grievances? Sure, you can file them, but a resolution will take at least 1 year, and that's if you're lucky. I filed a grievance once. I was lucky: it only took a year. What was the resolution? I got ONE hour of pay and a coupon to drop/pick up a trip. I was on reserve, so that was useless to me. The grievance process was just a big waste of time.
 6. Last, but DEFINITELY not least: corruption. There are plenty of stories about corruption at the IAM headquarters, but I experienced corruption first hand at the local level. I went out in NYC one night with some FAs and a union rep for dinner and a show. When it was time to pay for dinner we all had our money out. Guess what the union rep said? "It's on me guys, I'll just say it's a union meeting" I could not believe my ears! Your dues hard at work, providing for shows and dinner. I refused the offer, paid for my own dinner, did not go to the show.
I have many more stories about what its like to be under IAM representation. This is just a sprinkle on the cupcake.. Please open your eyes. I worked for two IAM carriers, so I've done my research. Now you need to do your research by listening to other flight attendants that have experienced the IAM. I have read stories from other people, so I know they're out there.
You need to understand that many of my co-workers at other airlines were UBER SUPER jealous of Delta flight attendants. From uniforms, to A-Days, to trips, to you name it. I came to Delta and I have a life. 6 A-days is nothing compared to full reserve and being used and abused. I am so glad I came here and met so wonderful people and I look forward to making many more.
I wear my flying D very proud. I am proud to be Delta. I want to keep us flying free. #‎voteNO‬ ‪#‎BeDifferentBeDELTA‬

Ask me about the IAM and anything in regards to them.
I have never been a Teamster and that union has a long history of corruption.

Organized labor has been around for several hundred years in this country, ever hear of a guild?

The concept of a union is a great premise, do you have good leaders and bad leaders, yes!

But the members have a say and the democratic right to put people in office and then vote them out.

What say do you have at DL in your wages, benefits, and working conditions?

so you admit all unions are NOT good.
Glad you cleared that up.

and as far as "say" we have the EIG who have made great changes.
And of course
the History of Delta Management who have treated me quite well over the years.

Just to refresh...........

IAM Negotiates Tentative Agreement with United to OUTSOURCE Jobs

From someone attending the IAM meet and greet
They were the only two there lol
"roughly 50% of dues monies goes to the top. 30% goes to the "District" and 20% actually will be used on us."

"We were also told that if we are not happy we can ALWAYS decertify."

"My frienddid push back on the concept that we "start from where we are now".
What they REALLY mean is that everything that we have right now is "Frozen" during negotiations. She pushed back again and after about 10 mins of "avoiding" they finally admitted that it is possible to go through all of this and end up with EXACTLY what we ALREADY have.

It took about an1 1/2 hrs to pull this out!!  "

So once again, I'm suppose to HOPE that we MAY  get better.
AGain, this campaign is all about the IAM and NOT about Delta F/A's...

First thing out of the IAM's mouth the day they handed in the cards?
"this is a great day for the IAM".

DL FAs fared better than their peers at NW before, during, and after BK.

It took the DL merger for NW's IAM represented FAs to reach parity with DL - after the IAM was determined to no longer be the negotiating agent for NW FAs.

Liar once again.

The IAM NEVER represented NW's FAs.

They were IBT, then PFAA then AFA.

Keep up the lies and misinformation.

you and he can get all of the laughs you want.

you still will be wrong about the issue.

I guess when you completely make a fool out of yourself on the issue and argue against points where you are shown to be wrong, laughing at someone else is all you have left to do.

I DO stand corrected and you are right.

as a refresher, perhaps you can give us a list of the workgroups which the IAM represented at NW and which were dissolved.

the point is still the same regardless of the union involved.

DL FAs fared better than their peers at NW before, during, and after BK.

It took the DL merger for NW's FAs to reach parity with DL - after the AFA was determined to no longer be the negotiating agent for NW FAs.

FACT:
Election fraud is a FELONY. No one associated with the IAM is willing to be charged with a felony in connection with the Delta campaign.

FACT:

The NMB does not contact individuals. The NMB received only 5 forms Delta provided to contest a card. Each of those stated only that IF the NMB received a card with their signature it was fraudulent. Not one of those 5 had a card submitted to the NMB with the 12,000 plus we delivered.

FACT:
If the NMB believes a card was forged or fraudulent they do NOT reveal the name, not even to Delta. They will ask Delta to provide and/or validate signatures for a group of names, without revealing which name they are trying to verify.

FACT:
The NMB is a guarded building with guarded offices. Once you enter the building the confidential nature of the NMB is obvious. One of the Leaders with the NMB was practically hand-picked by Delta Air Lines. He would never allow any fraud to be perpetrated against Delta.

FACT:
If anyone makes any claims contrary to what I've posted above they are spreading false and/or misleading information. PERIOD.

#4 above seems quite interesting..... but since the NMB has ruled nothing about the cards that have been submitted, then I'm not sure what leg you have to stand on in making the assertion that no card fraud has occurred.

when the NMB rules, we will all know.

Do you not realize that the IAM has a name list of all the cards and they would be contact with the NMB?

And YOU do realize that Many F/A's have contacted the NMB directly
concerning possible fraud?
You do realize Delta also set up a reporting site for the same reason.
So there IS communication Directly between the NMB and some F/A's
concerning possible fraud.
