Grievances on Seniority Boarding

As a commuter for 9 years, I use the jumpseat as my way to get to work along with open seats when available. Do I wish the mechanic and his family going to Disneyworld would allow me to cut in front of them so I could get to work, yes, is it fair to do that to them, no. Commuting is a choice you take the bad with the bad. Entitlements are for the weak, put your hand back in your pocket and put your chin up.

Commuting is a CHOICE...are you insane...!!!? I was forced out of base several times due to bought airlines, closed bases etc. Children in schools, husbands job, cost of living!!!! The west people NEVER had to deal with the life changes we have had to. They KNEW when they got hired where they would work. Lets say PHX closes tomorrow and you're transfered to LGA...YOU GONNA QUIT? YOU GONNA BUY A HOUSE IN NEW YORK...or you gonna commute!!! Talk about giving me a reason to slap you upside the head. The company always says 'past practice'. WELL COMMUTING for airline employees has ALWAYS been past practice... To avoid problems go by date of hire PERIOD...There was a time when I got bumped and STILL do, but at least I know it's FAIR. Crips you people are nuts. Oh and at ANY given time there are 30 people OF MY SENIORITY year commuting to PHL. When you make a statement...investigate your info and walk a mile in some east coast blue pumps...you sound like an idiot. With regard to pass riding for work or play...date of hire and plan.

Be assured, CWA(Passengers Service Employees) will be filing an expedited staff level grievance on boarding priority which the company has decided to change and blatantly violate our contract with their announcement. Our contract is very clear, we board based on "date" of hire not "year" of hire. (See Article 8 of our CWA CBA.) We also have scheduled arbitrations for Immediate Family boarding and Retiree boarding violations. "DATE OF HIRE SENIORITY IS APPLIED TO BOARDING FOR ON-LINE NON-REVENUE SPACE AVAILABLE TRAVEL."

Dont Expect the Company to show for the Arbitration Hearings.

Thanks PUPDaddy - didn't know! That's good news!

I take it from your Board Name that you have experience with the Embraer A/C. E-170, I'm guessing. 😉

Did we work a MD 40/40 MacDonald-Burrring Trip together? - You know the double-deck whisper jet, honey.

:stupid: Oh, people never move for jobs anymore 🙄 . If I got transfered to LGA I would be looking for a job tomorrow, I am not going to commute for the rest of my career just because I can. Don't be a victim. I guess you have no options or to lazy to look for some? Working for a company that doesn't pay well and has no pension anymore and you have to commute, you have all the makings of a victim.

Oh people do move for jobs alright. USAirways paid to move families with this last displacement.
Some can't/won't because of the extended families or roots they established in the cities they have lived in for 20years.
The cost of living in PHL is twice that of Pittsburgh.

No victims here, just reality. 😉
And it could be coming to a city near you!

Why do you think the airline industry is any different than others. People get transferred every day. Kids move schools. Spouses change jobs. Happens in all businesses. Moving is a part of life isn the business world.

Well I can't say ALL but MOST companies that relocate YOU for work PAY for your move ect. When I was displaced from PIT in June 2003 I received NOTHING. Due to the fact that they were offering leaves of absence the company was not obligated to pay us. Not to sound insensitive to the displacements after that but they received pay. My partner works for a MUCH more stable company and was paid a total of $12,000.00 to move. True not everyone gets that but to uproot a family for THIS job personally I'd have to leave.
As far as commuters, if you live in a city OTHER than a previous base you commute for the pleasure of living in another place most likely. Higher priority should NOT be given to commuters but instead a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD for every work group.

What would the purpose of the extra seat be for except to provide for commuters? The company isn't that nice! We would only need three F/As (and j/s) if the plane can carry 150+ passengers so I think that negotiating for an extra seat is an impossibility for us.
The company is trying to make the jumpsests weight restricted controlled

Like the west

This is the issue in a nutshell: both groups have the topic in their contracts, therefore, any change would violate one or the other contracts. In this case, it may be both. If the company wants to start unilaterally changing contracts, and we all start this ridiculous bickering between ourselves, we are in trouble. The company needs to get our contracts settled if they want change. Period.
I, for one, do not take the company's actions lightly. If they can change any section of either contract, they need to be grieved by the unions!

SpinDoc replies:

What's the big deal? Unions are dinosaurs and impede progress. Flight privileges are PRIVILEGES, they are not something to be negotiated.

Hey, came with the job when applied for. Er, for EONS!!!
What's yer problem? Promises,(perks, in order to retain?) (seinority ...etc.) remember? They are supposed to mean everything. Renig, you as==h---!

Just curious then why did they agree to it in our contract? Also, if they are not to be negotiated, how does management get Space Positive for them and family, even after they are no longer employed with the company? Did someone just arbitrarily decide to let them do that or did they negotiate it into their contract when they signed on?
