And you better check again what TIMCO pays LICENSED AMT's it is about the same as what IAM represented mechanics make which doesen't say much about your union! And by the way a LICENSED AMT at PSA US Airways express represented by the IAM tops out at about 16.00 so pipe down about pay rates!

PSA Top Out pay is a ten year progression top base pay is $23.63 per hour from the IAM/PSA CBA.

Also $1 per license.

Did you know teamsters are planning on keeping separate contracts and not negotiating a transition agreement?

This will keep the unions as two separate entities with no bidding/bumping from one side or the other.No raise for IAM to west side scale.

Did you know teamsters plan on opening up section 6 negotiations with U if they succeed?

This will take 2 1/2 years or more from the date they start.....almost 2009,when the IAM contract runs out...

As a result of the Teamsters futile attempt to represent Mechanic & Related employees at the new US Airways, transition negotiations to provide the unmatched benefits of the IAM National Pension Plan (NPP) have been delayed indefinitely.

I can't say I know all the issues here, but as a writer this letter is as full of informal fallacy and invalid argument as it gets. The first sentence alone is beyond belief coming from that level of an origination. futile attempt... I thought the teamsters won the chance? As a result of.. the iam could start providing a pension payment starting tomorrow if they choose to, regardless of the Teamsters. Not saying its likely or feasible, but when you state it that way, you are choosing to sway opinion with selective language and without a basis of facts. But this isn't like fox news opinionating the conservative argument, this is a business letter of a organizational entity that needs to follow some editorial rules and reasonable argument.

I'd question anyone's motives putting this to ink.

Am I understanding this correctly? The teamsters represented the mechanics for AW- although smaller, and the iam for the mechanics at US, and the iam's position is that it should get to represent the combined group, because it had more mechanics initially?

IAM represents Mechanics and Related in the East and the Teamster (IBT) represents Mechanics in the West. When two similiar workgroups are represented by two different unions and a merger occurs if there is at least a 35 percent showing of interest by either union then an election is called by the NMB to see who will represent both groups. If there is not a showing of 35 percent interest then the larger union absorbs the personnel of the smaller union and the smaller union no longer represents the group. The IAM also represents the baggage handlers in the East and the TWU represents the baggage handlers in the West. Looks like they will also have a vote for which union will represent them.

I don't believe that's true. Especially and since there will be work groups that are currently non union on the west side that will or may be acreeded into the union. There will have to be transition agreements negotiated no matter what.

I believe that it's already been determined that there will be no bumping based on seniority alone. I also believe that if there is an open position right now, any employee can apply. And raises, freezes, increases or losses of benefits, etc. will all be done through negotiations. Those same negotiations would have to take place in certain areas no matter who the representing union is.

Maybe not.....since the mechanics have been in talks for about that same amount of time, it may go quicker. Especially since this will possibly be the last work group to finalize. Got to get all the labor issues resolves, to a point, and begin to run the airline, IMO.

Do you have the steps from start to top? Is it end loaded?

If so, fan lube may be right, the top guy may only be at around $16/hr.

700 fails to realize that in the real world non-skilled labor maxes out at a certain level (take a cook in a kitchen ($13-$14) is the max out rate. I wouldn't say there is much more skill involved in loading bags or dumping lavs to cooking food (an exception would be a chef, not cook, who went to a culinary school). It takes some training, a week, maybe two, and just about anyone with the desire to work hard and take pride in their work can do it.

You left out that cooks normally take a share of the total tips collected, this could easily double their earnings.


And yes, I do think that at this point the IBT is the only option that can offer change. I dont hate the IAM, the IAM certainly did perform better than most other unions in the past, especially the TWU which has been undercutting them for twenty years, but lately they are no better than the TWU. Seems the IAM adopted the "If you cant beat em join em" strategy for retaining dues flow.

If the IAM announced that they were going to try and organize every airline worker out there, even those belonging to other unions, in order to unify the workers of this industry so we could win back what we rightfully deserve I would support such an effort 100%.

But that will never happen. The old farts they have running the International would never attempt anything so bold and risky. Better to sit back, collect their six figures and defer blame to the membership.

Starting pay is $13.42. I will get the exact scale.

No, cooks are generally paid hourly, and do not take a tip share. Bartenders and bussers take a tip share, and in most restaurants (casual dining at least, Chili's, Outback, Applebees, Fridays, etc.) are paid in the $3 to $4 an hour range.
