What's new

It's Official...

Yes we can now fly more American Jobs overseas.

A few years ago I went to DC to lobby with the TWU. One of the issues I brought up was that a prominent Democratic Congressman from NEW YORK )Charles Rangal)voted in favor of Free trade with China. I told his rep of our dissapointment to which his rep replied "What do you care, your industy will benifit?" Needless to say I was not happy with the prospect of benifiting by helping US companies screw US workers by shipping their jobs overseas.

Funny how our "family values" administration has no problem increasing ties with a nation that has a miserable human rights record and a practice of forced abortions. Bush appears to be against abortions when the mother choses to do so but is willing to look the other way when a government forces women to kill their children.

Good news for AA workers? Hardly, tell that to Tulsa. As cheap as they are willing to work they still cant work for less than the Chinese.

Leave it to Bob Owens to be disappointed that his employer has been granted valuable international authorities. 🙄

This is very good news. Too bad some people are too caught up in their own little corner of the world to recognize it for what it is....

Leave it to you who would see moves that increase our dependancy on a Communist Dictatorship with an abysmal human rights record as a good thing.

And tell us exactly "what it is".

Cashing in on the exportation of American jobs?

Expediting the erosion of our manufacturing base?

Closer relations with an authoritarian government?

Oh, but we can make money off this, and no matter what it may do to our neighbors doesnt matter, until our jobs go there too.

Ah, you're always the bluebird of happiness, Bob. Or is it the blowhard of nastiness?....

The dependency on a dying dictatorship is already there, so if someone is going to make money off the deal, it may as well be going into our coffers. All the better to be there once they realize they've already moved too far away from communism to go back....

If you don't like it, they're taking applications for Canadian citizenship at the consulate in NY. But don't work for Air Canada. They fly to China -and- Cuba.

You're right. The DoT should have given CO both the 2005 and the 2006 designations and frequencies. Better CO than AA, right?

🙄

Good thing you aren't in charge.

What on earth would AA ever need money in its coffers for? All the money that comes into AA should go directly to its Unionized employees. In fact, the shareholders could just skip this whole airline business pipe dream and just give their money to Bob Owens and the other Unionized folks. That would save everyone a whole lot of trouble. Oh yeah, and the 2003 concessions were completely unnecessary and the TWU sold everyone down the river just for kicks and grins. TWU should have already gotten everything back, I mean, AMR only lost like $700 million last year. That's not nearly enough money to lose.

Congrats to both AA and CO I hope this is a sign of better times ahead. What would BOB have to complain about if things got better year after year. BOB why dont you start an Airline since you seem o be the know all end all of everything airline.

While I agree with Bob's sentiments regarding China, I am happy to see AA getting these route authorities. The alternative was giving the authorities to a competitor. As long as there are routes being distributed, the upcoming increased presence of US airlines in China is a reality. I'd rather see AA fly them than someone else.

As for the impact of US jobs going to China, that's something we need to hold our elected officials responsible for. I wouldn't hold your breath on the current administration doing anything to favor the American worker. If Bush had his way, we'd all be working under similar conditions as the Chinese.

These flights will be packed with people headed to/from XNA. And those people would be flying to/from China whether or not AA flew to China.

It brings some much-needed competition to UAL on the route.

But to some disgruntled people, all news is bad news. Especially if it's good news. At least Mr Owens doesn't disappoint. Like Old Faithful, he is very reliable. B)
