Na tai hao le! Wo hen gaoxing! This is great news for AA! It's great news for me too since my family is in Shanghai, and I can now go there without depending on ID90s on other carriers. Now, if we can start up Taipei again (perhaps out of ORD as well), we could really start to build a presence in Asia.

By next March, we'll have Many-NRT, ORD-NGO, and DFW-KIX up and running, followed by ORD-PVG.

Tensions may be thawing a bit between Taipei and Beijing, but I wouldn't expect TPE to be reinstated until after we've started up PVG and maybe HKG, which is also rumored.

I think it was also said that AA could use the routes if CO does not use them this year. What is the possiblilty of this happening. Also what is the possiblity of AA not usuing the route next year at all???? I know AA has planned many routes in the past just to cancel them before they start.

These flights will be packed with people headed to/from XNA. And those people would be flying to/from China whether or not AA flew to China.

It brings some much-needed competition to UAL on the route.

But to some disgruntled people, all news is bad news. Especially if it's good news. At least Mr Owens doesn't disappoint. Like Old Faithful, he is very reliable. B)

While I agree with Bob's sentiments regarding China, I am happy to see AA getting these route authorities. The alternative was giving the authorities to a competitor. As long as there are routes being distributed, the upcoming increased presence of US airlines in China is a reality. I'd rather see AA fly them than someone else.

As for the impact of US jobs going to China, that's something we need to hold our elected officials responsible for. I wouldn't hold your breath on the current administration doing anything to favor the American worker. If Bush had his way, we'd all be working under similar conditions as the Chinese.

I'm a proud veteran too, and I think Bush is an arrogant dimwit who is throwing American lives and the nation's wealth down that rathole in the Middle East. No only do I not like his policies, I don't like his personality of scoffing and smirking at anyone who's opinion differs from his own.

Bush may not have Chinese generals running the pentagon, but he's sold the Chinese the American economy. And now he wants to open the borders for cheap labor to flood in so he and his rich buddies can lower wages in their sweat shops.

. . . . and I was a life-long Republican until last year. Now I see them for what they really are.

I only respond because posters can not seem tp keep politics out of an aviation forum.
Question, when was the last time you voted for a candidate to be President of the US? More often than not we vote against one candidate because we despise the other. I didn't vote for bush I voted against someone I perceive to be a Traitor and a Tax and Spend Liberal.
Just my opinion. I'm sure you have yours but, with a majority of Democrats in this country seems more people didn't like Kerry than Bush.
This is not a political forum. It kinda bugs me no matter what news good or bad Bush did something wrong. I realize everyone is intitled to their opinion ( AND I KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT THAT). Why not start a Bush Bashing thread if you are so inclined?

You know quite well being in Iraq had nothing to do with you being Furloughed. Why would you try to put that type of spin on it. Furlough is seniority based if you are with a union. Performance based or politiccal if you are not. It is a shame anyone had to get Furloughed. I hope you all come back soon
