McCain Speaks

What do you want to do,have them over for dinner and loosen them up a little with a wine or beer?

I'm thinking NOT. For all those out there so warmly "concerned" with the health and survival of our troops over there....understand that tactical interrogations, most especially of recently captured enemies, often provides information that saves American lives within the combat arena. Those who tout the "just" nature of WWII, but are hoplessly ignorant as to how it was actually waged...well..just won't EVER "Get It" as to how the obscenity of war actually "works" on a daily basis. At least one poster herein considered fleeing to Canada to be perfectly fine as a personal "solution" to recent conflicts, but noted that with WWII?...= "Sign me up". Waterboarding is "bad" and just icky it seems...but the standard practice of killing Japanese soldiers, rather than taking them prisoner..was "just"....not too mention "little" items like the slaughter of millions from the sky within Germany/Japan/etc. I won't bring up the methodology of the then interrogations....but they hardly included a fine chablis with brie. Sigh...I guess ignorance, coupled with an "Everything is Beautiful...In it's Own Liberal Way", utterly delusional perspective's a needed tool for particular agendas to be maintained...or even exist. There is NOTHING...umm..."civilized" withn the waging of war. Seeking to limit needless killing's about as good as it can ever get within such horrific proceedings. I'm very much in favor of limiting the enemy's ability to perform said killing on our people, and I couldn't care less if some of any enemy have a bad day in the process. Sheesh!...many posters here would even likely find what goes on within survival school/POW training to be too horrific to contemplate.....

As for McCain not seeming overly concerned with waterboarding?..OK...He survived years in the Hanoi Hilton , wherein often crippling , and sometimes fatal...serious...actual torture was routine.

Good points, EastUS. It may very well be an idealist approach to consider wartime interrogation policies without the use of waterboarding or other torture practices. But by the very nature of what makes America great, shouldn't we hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard than the rest of the world? I'm not saying that we shouldn't "seek to limit needless killings" - as that should always be a focus for our armed forces engaged in combat proceedings - but moreso that we owe to the people that founded this nation, and those who have fought to protect it, a higher standard of ethics. Using severe torture tactics not only says to our adversaries that these methods are acceptable, but it places a virtual stamp of approval on these inhumane practices from a government whose number one responsibility is to preserve and protect its constitution for the benefit of not only its own citizens, but the betterment of the world at large. I would challenge you (or anyone else) to provide an interpretation of the constitution that would provide for the legal allowance of such practices.

Again, perhaps an idealistic approach. But what are we if we do not adhere to our own set of rules?

It is a bitt odd to think that we have tried and convicted a soldier of our enemy for waterboarding one of our own, but yet it may be OK when we do it to others.

Don't you think the enemy now knows that waterboarding is just an annoying water trick. I bet the word around the Jihadist's camp is to just ride it out, they're not going to kill you.

Do a search for his speeches concerning torture before he wanted to be POTUS and those after he wanted to be POTUS. His own words condemn him. His current stance on torture is for political expediency.

Blah, Blah...(Insert "heroic" run to Canada/etc)

For Father's Day? = I just call a call from my youngest = 2 "tours' in Iraq Marine, noting that he was coming to visit    He's fought, I've fought...YOU..haven't, nor EVER will have, even the tineist clue as to fu-k-all about what you're babbling about. You "know"...NOTHING about the sickness that is war, nor have you any, apparent, earnest clue as to the actual nature of our species, those that we share this tiny rock in space with....which isn't purely "Everything is Beautifull"/etc. For such as yourself?= It's all nothing more than "academic"/utterly clueless, really just wholly brain-dead excursions into perpetually adolescent Fantasyland....Look...I really don't care the least bit what you fantasize that you "Think"...I know, from sad, personal experience how things actually "Work"..an issue upon which you'll have not the slightest clue within your "liberally"limited life...such takes at least a modicum of honest perceptual workings, and "hands-on" experience and observation.

Have another Latte on me.....😉

You still haven't responded to my post about my liberal democrat grandfather who crawled out of a trench in France during WW1 to save his comrade. You haven't responded to my post about my father who fought in WW2. He was also a liberal democrat. It ain't just conservative's that fought for this country. I am sure that were either of them alive today, they would have also opposed the Iraq war. And I still maintain that if there was a draft (and if we invade Iran, there will be, IMHO), then you will see a lot more patriotic conservatives start to speak out loudly against the war when it's THEIR kid being sent to the front lines.

"I am sure that were either of them alive today, they would have also opposed the Iraq war. " What an utter crock of "liberal" BS. Trust me on at least this = YOU..can NOT, even POSSIBLY know what those actual men would have thought. I'll give you extremely high odds that they'd be right my notions..doens't matter though....Nice try at ascribing BS, "profound", personal..and ENTIRELY improper ("My"etc) imaginary "justification" to your own, personal, pitiful BS. I'll give you honest, and extremely high odds that you'd be astonished at their actual notions on "war".....for which?..YOU ..have not, nor ever will have, even the tiniest, even if improperly fantisized..CLUE.

Enough...I've got dinner preps to make..for an actual, no BS, young hero. Have "fun" all. Buh Bye for now 😉

Au contraire. I certainly DO know how they would have felt. My grandfather was against the war in Vietnam, as was my father. Iraq being so similar to that war, I feel pretty confident I know how they'd feel. I mean, I only spent 28 years with one of them and 45 with the other...you never met them....

Thank you for proving my point so lavishly. Enjoy dinner with your son.

I wish I could do the same with my Father-in-law, who you would define as a "liberal weenie", who valiantly fought in Vietnam and just recently died from illness directly related to his time there.

Thanks for the wishes as per my son...ham's in the oven, ordered oysters on the way...and much champagne to salute his survival

Take care...best check on the ham.
