What's new

Merger

Interesting perspective on this issue. I think it reall point to the unity overall. Some things go East and some things go West way. Ramp has adopted many east procedures, not all, but many. Inflight will do the same. Some major changes for west, but also some minor changes for East, which may blow up to be "big changes" when really they are fairly small. Catering appears to be going the West way, however with East side china and East side. Whats the real culprit here? To merge these companies in the most cost effective manner. The number on the east far outweigh the numbers on the East, therefore, it's simpler and less expensive to make these changes. Don't forget that we are on an accelerated pace to get single certification. In a few years, more west changes may appear to be taking hold.

Flexibility and adaptability are the key to these changes. We are all aviation professionals and can take on the changes ahead, everyone knows that both sides have endured this stuff over the 40 plus years of being in the business.

Well we're still not sure what maintenance practices were going to follow, wether it be AWAs or US. Well noones told maintenance anyway. Our costmer service is still terrble, our baggage handling just plain old sucks, our paint jobs leave something to be desired, the maintence union issue is still up in the air, granted i understand thats not the companies fault. DP told maintence that were getting paid the industry standard so thats the way its going to stay. I can only imagine what kinda problems thats going to cause and now we might be mergeing with northwest and delta! great! I don't mean to sound so negitve but theres still so much that needs to be addressed. just my thoughts.

As long as seniority integration goes the "East" way, nothing else matters....

Calm down, It's just a joke 🙂

PIT is still twice the size of LAS, dear.

LAS is the SEVENTH largest station for this airline, not that you'd know it listening to Tempe.
Wow...check out the usairways resources page Dear
Mainline flts per day as of 04/2006

CLT-202
PHL-161
PHX-199
LAS-114
PIT- 43
On the westside we think mainline (that's were the jobs are)...

How is it going? Well, it could be better and it could be worse. The hardest part, labor integration is yet to come. There have been positive changes on both coasts. US east is getting their glassware back in First. US west is getting the snack basket. Predeparture service in First will become the standard across the system. Just these items are improvements in the eyes of the customer. However, it seems both sides still have dirty, disgusting planes and very unhappy employees.

We have a long way to go. One thing we must remember as line employees is that as long as we stay divided, management will be able to shove whatever they want down our throat. If we unite, we will be a force that can FORCE management to give us what we deserve. All employees, gate, inflight, ground MUST come together and form a common front that management CANNOT ignore. The gate agents are not your enemies, neither are ground folks or other FA's we are in this together and must FIGHT together to get what we need to do our jobs and what we deserve!

Funny, I have had the same thought in recent months, but more to the tune of moving toward the "HOW THE WEST HAS DONE" things without regard for "Best Practices" from the East. I think the merger would be more successful and foster more of a sense of unity if it were more clearly demonstrated that the "new US Airways" was truly taking the best of BOTH former airlines to create the new one.

Well, it does depend on what area you work in.

I am involved on the FAs merging. As we have made a "GAP" annalysis (differences) we really have made 'best practices" and yet in some areas it does come down to cost and how long it will take to train each "side". If the training would take twice as long and cost twice as much to training all of the East FAs, it simply makes sense to go the "east way" and train the west.

There is nothing personal in making the choices, the choices are based on what is best for the company overall.

I hope one thing goes east way is...your innocent until proven guilty. I have personally been through it on the west and coming from the east REALLY took me by suprise! It is known here...your guilty til proven innocent.

if anything, things are being done the west way. recurrent is being changed to the west way, service procedures are being done the west way. the "cactus" call sign will remain. (which i think should be "HERITAGE")unacompanied minor procedures are being done the west way. the way we carry animals, the west way. a/c & cabin configuration will be configured to the west way. our aniversary pins look exactly like the old hp pins . the only thing is that its silver. boarding video the west way. buy on board now being done the west way. commercials look exactly like the old hp commercials. employee incentive programs are being done the west way. my parents have to pay for travel, the west way. retirees come before active employees , the west way. our inflight magazine looks exactly like the old hp magazine. shall i go on?

Allow me...we've got no hazmats, the west way; ads on tray tables, the west way; glassware in First, the west way; cabin oxygen, the west way; SHARES instead of SABRE, the west way; no off-peak frequent flyer awards, the west way; 25%/50% bonus for US2/US3, the west way; 2 movies per month, the west way...who's next?

Here's more:

Heard this in training department

1. Door disarming procedures - switching to the west way.
2. Acceptance of unaccompanied minors - the west way.

I have NO PROBLEM adjusting to the "West Way" as long as the determined procedures MAKE SENSE! Far too often in the past the "East Way" was ill conceived, ridiculous and concocted by rose colored glass wearing people that were clueless when it came to "Real Time Situations".

I am still overall positive but also a little disappointed. Disappointed that instead of looking at "Best Practices" we really are just going to do most things the east way ....
I disagree. I see the typical AWA cheap-skate way. They seem to only be looking at the cost factor instead of what may be an obvious better way of doing a task.

US Airways lost thousands of dollars this summer with the HUGE amt of UM's that fly thru CLT to go to Asheville for summer camp. The new US must think outside the box, and as they did for the tranporting of dogs for dog shows, they need to understand the huge amt of kids going to summer camp at places like Asheville. For a group so concerned with revenue, they sure don't mind giving it to other carriers.

BTW, I think the new US management has made some great decisions, BUT their implementation leaves MUCH to be desired.

As far as the East way....so NOT where inflight is concerned and you know? I could care less. Does the check still clear? That's my concern.

JUST STOP ALL THE PIMPING OF THE AIRLINE!! PLEASE BRING BACK THE DAYS OF QUIET CABINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
