In Charlotte Line Utility next week they are taking all the utility of of third shift and placing them on first and second shift and bringing in a vendor to clean the RON aircraft.

So there is no headcount reduction, but yet now US is going to be paying a vendor to do the work where Utility is all ready staffed and available.

Sounds like another way to throw more money away.

Although there is no apparent reduction in headcount now, have these shifts been working short-handed? How many will be leaving over the next few months? What we can see on the line is not always what is happening.

Given the condition of the planes, I may be able to understand why management would see a need for additional resources to be applied.

What, if any, is the different in pay from 3rd shift to the daytime shifts? Typically companies pay an addition 5-10% if you work the graveyard.

Well ok here is the scenario.

US flies into 89 mainline stations, there is only Utility at 18 stations, so 80% of the cities are done by vendors or fleet service, that is why the planes are in such bad condition, the vendors and fleet do not do the same job as the maintenance stations.

The other shifts are staffed and no one is leaving yet as no one from the company has notified the workers yet.

There is no differance in pay for third shift anymore. It use to be .51 extra for 2nd and .58 for third, but that is gone and every shift makes the same pay.

What is so hard to understand here. They are bringing in cheap labor to replace the utility function. They are going to do the same thing in PIT. Utility workers will be recieving notification this week with dates and numbers.
PHL utility is being outsourced to a company from New York.
Word is WORLDWIDE will be replacing utility in PIT by the end of March.

What is so hard to understand that they are not replacing anyone yet in CLT?

There is no headcount reduction, the same amount of utility people are still being staffed in CLT, they are just moving them to 1st and 2nd shift, and then bringing in a vendor at an added cost, no cost savings, a cost increase to clean the RON A/C.

The dates are not going to be released until the 20th at the earliest. In PHL they have not secured a vendor yet as the company's bid was too low for any vendors to accept.

In CLT it is a company called Jetstream, but as of yesterday Utility management said it might be as late as May before any Utility are laid-off.

I hate to say this but it's probobaly just a phase in period, once vendor is up and running they'll take over all 3 shifts.

Once third shifts are up and running the 1st and 2nd shifts will be given letters.

Contact USA320 and FLYAWAY to show the Vendor how to clean the aircraft. They are big supporters of "Outsourcing" unless of course it's their job.. Then they whine.

I wonder how they would feel if the company decided to wetlease all of its flying to Ryan International and just eliminate all of the pilots at US Airways?? They would probably be upset.

Com'on the two of you.. Make your comments.. Tell us how that could not be done.. Then of course you can look out your window and see the A320's in AirTran colors and wonder "Geez how do they do that"..

It's called PAINT..

I think in the long run US Airways would be better off if it Outsourced all of the pilot functions and just bought paint.. Have Ryan fly the aircraft and US Airways buys the paint.. Pretty simple..

Does ultility even use vacuums? The aircraft are disgusting

Utility only cleans the RONs at 18 stations, the remaining 81 are vendors or the ramp, and a vacuum being used is a rarity
