Doing a quick check on OA websites, it brings US in line with the sizes/ weights of CO and DL, the only other airlines I bothered checking. It allow for up to 22in according to the website, so would not that include most rollerboards?

I would assume the company is trying to actually get people to check the bags that should be checked, thus improving on time statistics, as well as matching our competitors.

it won't matter no one will be checking them anyway 🙄

I don't know about anyone else but I think its about time that the c/o situtation was addressed. The size and number of the so called c/o bags is fast approaching the ridiculous. If the new "policy" stops the abuse then I'm all for very strict enforcement of size limitations. There is no excuse for having 20 to 30 bags checked on the jetway.

If it's any consolation, we have the same problem at AA. Their rollerboard may fit within the guidelines, but then their "small personal item" is a backpack that contains a 6-man tent and a campstove. At two different meetings conducted by upper-level managers, I have asked the question, "How did they get to the bottom of the jetbridge with 3 large bags plus their purse or laptop case in the first place? Did no one at the ticket counter or the gate notice that the passenger looked like they were moving the Russian Army?" All I get as an answer is this deer-in-the-headlights stare.

I used to work for TWA and even back then there were problems with carryons and it was the same restriction. I have a 22IN Travel Pro I can do Europe for a week. I also have a backpack laptop bag which has little extra room. Most traveling passengers bring entirely to much for a short trip for even a 3-4 day. If the OLD SIZER boxes were still around and at the GATE this would not be happening.. IT EITHER FITS in the BOX or it is checked no excuses. What used to really get me was anyone who was requesting WHEEL CHAIR assistance usually had a rollaboard! Geez if you need assistance at least check the bag dont make the Customer Service Agent carry a bag that could have been checked.

the new size has been reduce to 45 inches total....19x11x15

I do not have issues with the size at all....but enforcing it? It is basically the size of a large rolling briefcase or very very small; rollerboard....most travelers do not have the smal size...they have 22's.

The website says :

45inches/ (14x9x22)

up to 40 lbs.

That would include a 22" rollaboard, no?

Two words that will help us enforce this debacle.....

SIZER BOXES

IF it doesn't fit, it's CHECKED. End of discussion.

You're right.. enforcing it will be a real bit... Who is gonna be the "bad cop"?

I think I could make a killing selling 23" rulers painted to show 18" so the FAs could measure bags and say "Looks good to me, welcome aboard!"

Maybe US management will arm all agent with tape measures from the Dollar Store. Remember its HxWxD. 🙄

The Security Xray is where sizers work the best.

I have seen many a SWA terminal use the plexi glass to reduce the opening. Also if it don't fit there people are not going to argue much and have no choice but to take it back and check it in.
