There you will find that US is hiring rampers at $7.17 and hour. They will have 4 hour shifts and be expected to pay for their uniform. Lets see, $7.17/hr. times 20 hours a week= 143.40 gross pay. Subtract about $5.00 for the uniform and about another $30 for medical, dental, etc. This will leave about 108.40. But wait, taxes( Federal, State, and Social Security) have not been taken out yet. So their take home pay will be about $80.00 a week. Subtract about $20 a week for gas to get back and forth to work. WOW, $60 a week breaking your a$$ loading full 757s. They were supposed to start a class with 10 but only 4 showed up. Those 4 will probably quit after loading their first 757.

1. Subtracting $20 a week for gas is improper. You might as well subtract their grocery bills for lunch at work. Gas to/from work is an expense, but does not come out of your paycheck.

2. I doubt that a ramper making that little would have 25% of his/her income taken out for taxes, but I could be worng.

3. Its a part time job, what do you expect? If they worked full time they would make $1,147.20 before taxes which is what many express flight attendants would call a good month.

Sucks yes, but instead of loading an aircraft they could be asking if you would like to biggie size it.

Skeezer

I did not do the calculations, it was posted somewhere else. I was just wondering if the numbers re compensation, in general, were true.

Read it for yourself. Go to topic title page 2 or 3 on this US airways board and the title of the thread is "New hire update clt- Fleetservice $7.17 and hour."

This certainly won't help in terms of keeping the salaries of airline employees rational. If the bar falls again at US it's not good for the other airline employees. In terms of size US is only slightly larger than TWA was. In my opinion, the airline that will have the biggest effect on the AA employees as well as the employees of DL, NW, etc will be UA because of its size (number 2 behind AA). If UA gets what it wants (similar to US) then DL, being mostly non-union, can quickly follow suit. This will put tremendous competitve pressure on AA and NW. When it's all over, all employees at the "legacy 6" will be working for 50% less salary and benefits, loss of work rules, vacations, and all holidays in addition to having no pension or retiree medical. The race to the bottom is in full swing.

Which might be why there are so many openings in the system at certain cities (and at many Expressed stations). I understand they dont want this job to be a career any more, but you have to at least make it worthwhile to be working. Oh, and at the fast food joint you get food.....

Just thought of another way to look at it. Loading bags for 4 hours instead of working out at the gym. So actually US is paying you to go to the gym instead of you paying for a gym membership. 😛

The $7.17 per hour is correct as I posted in another thread .The shifts here at this time are either 4 hours or 5.5 hours. Also correct out of a class of 10 scheduled only 4 showed up. As of last night all 4 still there. They have not done anything yet though. Also another job fair yesterday morning from big add in Charlotte paper. Only 14 people even showed for that. How many stayed or anything else I didn't hear.

Just a rumor but last I was told was that the IAM offer on the table was
15 per hour... only 7 main line stations …(the ones with time clocks)
Contract out the others.
and no buy out......

What big city then doesnt have a time clock? I know PHL/MCO/TPA/BOS/FLL have them. That would be 5. CLT/LGA/DCA/PIT would be 9. Anyone else know who does/doesnt have time clocks?

That would be easier than loading 757 pits and you can eat free.
