Kinda ironic coming from a banker.
Heh.

wow , giving up your decent paying job with flight benfits and healthcare for a one time go at 20K .... talk about short sighted ... have fun in prison !
Whether it's their co-worker's lunch, a passenger's laptop or Uncle Sam's greenbacks there's always going to be some halfwits that can't keep their hands off.

A baggage handler for US Airways was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing $20,000 worth of new $100 bills being shipped to a Federal Reserve facility.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention the missing Philly cash from last month, although I gotta question the wisdom of shipping $193 million in cash without an armed escort! Only $20,000 came up missing? I would have figured much more along with a cargo forklift left behind in the parking lot.

When I first got into this business over a decade ago, I recall talking to some, hmmm... "experienced rampers" who knew most of the angles to work from tossing a bag over a fence for a friend to pick-up or doing a hand-written bag tag to be sent to another city for pick-up or knew where all the blinds spots were located in bag rooms. Good thing the guy wasn't a real thief.

Anyone recall one of Philly's finest rampers who stole some military rifles and pulled a prison move by tying them to a rope and storing them between the locker room walls? Only found with the RFID chips on the guns lead to their location, even though originally it was assumed they were in some lockers in front of the wall.

Jester.

The few times I've seen such transfers the cash was under armed guard the entire time. How is it in PHL a ramper gets quality alone time with a fat cash shipment? Someone in Treasury either really dropped the ball or was looking the other way.

When is the US Cargo Call Center going to stop booking any freight shipment of value through PHL. Money, clothing, seafood, computers, etc. come up missing repeatedly in PHL. I worked in cargo for many years. Have seen numerous alerts and claims of missing, or partially missing, shipments. Theft in PHL remains a problem with this airline. Not sure if it's isolated to US employees or other carriers and vendors alike. Maybe theft is just the way it is in that geopgraphic area. In the end... it's a black eye on the company and especially our group. I feel sorry for our NC when they have to sit with the company and try to negotiate a contract for such a professional group. A little embarrasing to say the least.

If theft is a problem in PHL then company security needs to get off their butts and start tracking down the theives ... There's no place for people like that in this industry because it gives the rest of us a bad name ..

freedom,
I'm not sure how long you have been with the company, but if the issue of theft in PHL is new to you, let me verify it has been a problem for years. With that being said... Corporate Security seems to be inneffective. You would think, with any concentrated effort by Corporate Security, this problem could be resolved. Then again... if a concentrated effort requires a significant financial investment by the company maybe we have an explaination as to why this problem has not been duly addressed. Maybe, from the company's perspective, it's more cost efficient to live with the theft issue in PHL. I simply cannot come up with any other explaination to how such a critical ongoing issue seems to go unaddressed.

Kinda ironic coming from a banker.

PHL police are known to be corrupt, more so than BOS/NYC or other major cities, as is PHL known to have more crime.

Was this moving thru the freight house? Whenever I see money moving thru here it usually goes from the beltloader right to the armored car with the airport police watching...

That's how we always did it at NW as well. Straight down the belt, with Brinks (or whomever)having 2 people verifying the piece count, and loading it into the truck themselves. Seems odd that there was ever a point where this guy was alone with the $$$...

First, let me say I'm a 55 yr. old white male voting for Obama/Biden . Second , to ALL my "W.O.R.M" IAM Brothers GET OVER IT ! Willard Romney and Paul Ryan HATE! YOU ! and UNIONS . White Old Racist Men voting against their own best interests defies all logic ! Third, does any one on this forum no what AMR /TWU stations will still have F/S workers after January 2013 ? Contracts and hire date for ALL in 2013.
