At AA FT and PT have always had the same benefits and seniority. And there has always been PT'ers who work 100hrs a week and FT'ers who give all their hours away. In my opinion there will be a merger between AA and US, but i think they will try and run them seperatly as long as possible. Many AA FSC's in cities getting outsourced want a merger tomorrow thinking they will get to stay open. If there is a station that is outsourced by both AA and US and a merger puts the combined total of mainline flights at 20 or 25...etc Who gets recalled back first? AA or US FSC's?

I would assume recall and outsoucing language would be dictated by which union wins the representation election. Both current CBAs are vastly different regarding outsoursing. IMO... a Transition Agreement would have to be reached, regardless of the outcome of the election, addressing both issues. Keep in mind the US Fleet CBA is in Section 6 negotiations. I would hope the NC is fighting hard for improvements to the current scope language. I am, however, somewhat sceptical a newly ratified agreement will be in place before the eventual merger. The recently ratified "Final Offer" accepted by the TWU is very limited to how many stations, in the end, will be represented. Either way... I smell job loss, not only in outline stations, but some larger stations as well. The corporate word for this job loss is "synergies". "Synergies" that can be expected through merging the two carriers. "Synergies" = profit and return to the shareholders.

Just spoke to one of my former co-workers & he tells me the place is more f'd up than ever. They have now chosen to put all the int'l bags back in the bagroom as well as cut a few lines. And he says the managers still don't have a clue. What a joke.

I don't know anything about CLT's BMU but what's the problem with that, is it too much baggage volume for the work area? With presumably fewer people right?

And he says the managers still don't have a clue. What a joke.
I know you know better than to be surprised about that...

So now that its Nov. I want to become a Beck objector to the IAM. I'm no longer going to have portions of my union dues spent on political candidates I don't agree with. Does anyone on here know the process and what address my letter needs to be sent to?

Why don't you become an informed union member?

Before you become a Beck objector to the IAM I suggest you become better informed. No portion of your union dues is spent on political candidates you may, or may not agree with. By law any such practice is illegal. Educational material distributed to members, regarding political candidates, is funded by "voluntary" contributions to the Machinists Non-partisan Political League (MNPL). I would suggest being informed, and not mislead, before you send such a letter. There is lots of misguided information out there.

Spare me, I've heard it all before......

Bottom line the IAM supported Obama's campaign by so called "educational material" about him in which I want to be no part of.

Now if someone can tell me the address to send my letter to would be great. It seems like a simple question, but as usual I get the typical brushed away answers.

Sore loser?

The information you wish to find is on the internet. Maybe while you're looking you will find the same info ograc just gave you. You must be the type who, while being a dues objector, will wonder why the union hasn't gotten you that industry leading contract. Like I said, become informed so that you can affect change, rather than take your ball and go home. Or maybe, try working for delta or management.

Wrong, quite opposite. I'm one of those rare ones that feel we are being compensated high already for the job. And I've been wanting to do this for a long time, trouble is IAM makes it as tricky as possible to do so because it can only be done in Nov. and on a certain week I believe. Any rate, I'll dig up the info on my own need be.

By becoming a dues objector you become a non-member, you lose the right to attend union meetings, vote in union elections, vote on a CBA and a strike, is $7 a month worth losing all that?

Yes I'm fully aware of all that. The IAM is going to do what they do plain and simple, it's a business and looks out for itself 1st, the majority of the members 2nd, and the minority 3rd. I'll go ahead and let the majority vote/decide topics for me because that is what happens regardless. The amount you get back currently is around $18, not alot but its something. But my main focus is I don't want my dues going to "political material" about candidates in which I don't believe in.

Like they just did on Tuesday?

And to think this started all because of them spending money on political material. Funny, we didn't hear about this awhile ago, when said literature would have been coming out?

The info you're looking for is published in the IAM newsletter annually. You're not one of those guys that just tosses it into the recycle bin w/o even looking, are you?

BTW, did the IAM endorse both a Rep. & Dem. candidate early on this time around?
