Black Magic,
Your post is obviously opinionated and not 100% factual. The National Labor Relations Board does not oversee, or have jurisdiction over unions within the airline industry. Although the IAM did in fact endorse the Obama re election campaign the educational material distributed had the sole intent to educate the membership on issues pertaining to the choice between the candidates based on facts. As I have stated in previous posts, members' dues monies do not fund the political arm of the IAM. The MNPL (Machinists Non-Partisan Political League), which is responsible for the distribution of political education materials and lobbying for members' interests on Capital Hill, is funded soley by voluntary membership contributions. Members dues monies do not fund the MNPL. Members dues monies are divided between the Grand Lodge, the District and the Local. When you file for "Dues Objector" status you are refunded the portion of your dues money that would go to your local. Thats It! When you speak of dues money being divided between representative, lobbying, campaigns and political portions this is simply not the case. Your disdainful opinion on the results of the election is evident. Your post is factually incorrect on a number of issues and potentially misleading to the members. For the sake of the betterment of the membership please cease and desist these misleading and meritless posts.
ograc

Good grief aperently now I am "member that didn't get elected president of 141"?! Its just getting too deep around here! For the record I am phx pt union member who calls it like it is, and doesn't think that the IAM can do no wrong.

Listen Ograc..You want to talk about facts? A person should make no mistake, fact is the IAM didn't list "Educational" facts on the newsletter that over Obama's 1st term:

unemployment was at 7.8% the day Obama took office, as of oct. of 2012 it was 7.9%, and the actual real unemployment is around 15% as most people have dropped out off the unemployment benefits. He PROMISED to lower the rate to 5% btw.

People on food stamps was at 30 million when he took office, and now that number is 47 million.

Obama added 6 trillion (in 1 term!!) to the federal debt (more than all the other presidents combined)! Once again he PROMISED to cut it in half, instead he doubled it.

I'd say those were educational points that shouldn't be missed on the newsletter. What you call educational material I call smoke and mirrors. 4 years is a grip of time and he didn't get it done. Obama himself said he shouldn't get a 2nd term if he didn't deliver. How any union could advocate a push for re-election of such a bum is just immoral. Word out is of the IAM presidential campaign money from various whereabouts 98% went to Obama and the 2% well went to Romney just to say they supported both candidates.

Let me make it clear I've seen enough...I don't want any of my dues used for a POLITICAL ANYTHING with the IAM as obviously who/what they support is questionable depending on what you believe in so I am exercising my right as a Beck objector. On the flipside if someone is happy with a portion of their dues going to political substance the IAM chooses then that is their rightful choice aswell. If you or the IAM has a problem with me or multiple members feeling the same way, then perhaps the IAM needs to look at its own business model. NLRB or NMB it doesn't make a difference, a lawyer will represent you if you feel you weren't given a fair shake in a grievance case. Another note is that the Beck objector may very soon become future law, I've heard it's working its way up through the court system that unions will not be allowed to use dues for lobbying, campaigns, or political agenda. But in the mean time members have a choice.

The nice thing is people don't need to listen to me or anyone else on these forums on what is truth and best for their situation.

Actually a lawyer wont represent you because you have a grievance procedure that has to be exhausted before you can go outside the CBA and hire a lawyer.

But its ok that US spend over $2.5 million on politics and lobbying?

New Flash Freed... I mean.. Black Magic... Obama is your President for another four years... let it go...

Do yourself a favor, and take my advice... leave this Industry and seek employment in a non-union occupation... Target... Walmart... anything!

In the 10 year period I've been employed at US airways I have never once needed union representation on a grievance case and I plan on keeping a spotless record for years to come. With the companies 3 strikes in a year and you "might" be out program, you'd have to be a serious degenerate to get fired. In that case I wouldn't want such a person working around me anyway.

Too bad in this dung heap of an Obama economy there is no employment out there and it is getting worse by the day!

I work 2 jobs and my other business has been crushed in the last 4 years! Oh ya I've seen the effects of "hope and change"

No problem... move to the Cayman's and help Romney count his tax exempt offshore millions... or better yet... you could get a job as a GOP lobbyist, and tell everyone to be IAM union dues objectors... and get PAID for it!

Thats the exact mentality that is ruining this country. Rich people are not the problem! To slander someone just because they are successful is just ignorant.

Maybe you should move to some european country like France where the govern. tax the rich 75% to pay for everyone else to sit around at home. Problem is the rich are leaving and taking the jobs and $$ with them to other countries. I've been to europe a dozen times and it blows. There is no sense of achieving anything because wether you are a doctor or a garbage collector after the govern. gets done with all it's socialist taxes everyone lives the same humm drum life.

Aren't you just the resourceful one. Make sure to also mention that for every online job listed there is on average 600 applicants so a persons chance of landing it is slim.

Ignorance is equating wealth to success. Your candidate was born into wealth and made his millions pushing around paperwork. Wealth is not the problem, but a widening wealth inequality is.

Problem is the rich are leaving and taking the jobs and $$ with them to other countries.
No, that's not the problem, that's the global free market in all its glory. Companies aren't leaving because Americans want too much pay and too many benefits, they're leaving because they can pay a fraction of the wage overseas without having to worry about those burdensome regulations limiting things like child labor and the amount of toxic garbage they can dump into the local villages water supply. No American would work a $2/day job, but someone in Indonesia will. The profit motive makes and made outsourcing a logical decision for a firm, it's a consequence of market competition and the never-ending need to increase efficiency/cut costs. If the rich people are leaving it's because the Invisible Hand is scooping them out.

You've never needed a union because you have a union...

BTW, in the airline industry, the fallacy of antecedent is a shaky foundation to build a career on. I sincerely hope you never find yourself on the wrong end of an unfounded discipline issue; it's an ugly place to be.

P.S. Not to be a jerk, but I thought you weren't coming back?

Kev, you are usually better than this. Sure you personally see value and derive benefit from having representation but you must understand that plenty of people in the airline industry and other industries-in fact the vast majority of workers in the US have happy, productive, and successful careers without representation.

Any thoughts on the UA pilot TA? Seems they will be giving up considerable scope for pay rates below what DL offered six months before their amendable date. Remember other work groups are protected by pilot scope too.

I hope they aren't letting you count bags... it's more like 6 applicants per available job! Of course that number for you... assuming your aptitude for inflating information may well shoot up to that amount!

Anyway... you are in luck... employment is actually much lower in PHX than many places in the nation...
