Actually, it's not the DUI. There are two provisions of the ethics policy that Doug potentially violated, and neither mentions DUI's.
1 - A provision that employee's consume alcohol in moderation while representing the company, even outside business hours. You may remember Fly4Free mentioned being cautioned about alcohol consumption at a dinner - seems like it was something to the effect of only having one drink. Should Doug be held to a lower standard?
2 - A provision that an employee should not create unfavorable media coverage for the company. Doug's DUI received world-wide media coverage as "US Airways CEO Doug Parker....".
Violation of either is listed as a terminating offense.
Jim, What about not cooperating with an investigation? Parker initially refused a breatholizer test, and he told the police that he had about 3 beers in 2 hours. According to his license he is 6'3" and 220 lbs.,IIRC, which means that he would have to have consumed at least double the 3 beers in that timeframe, according to PENNDOT's scale on their website. Do you think these are serious enough offenses to be terminated? After all, lying to the authorities can not be desireable for an airline CEO.
