PSA Are they trying to get us to Quit?

Actually Houk and Farrow are sticking around, for now, they just report to Crellin now.

Seat swapping isn't going to help us a damm bit.
BTW what is the per diem at Mainline? PSA is $1.35 but i think we get a boost next month.

Bottom line is if you hate it that much and it is so terrible to work there, then why stay?

you guys are great. I am sure your kids are proud of you. Do you tell them when something isn't right to just quit? Wow what a great role model you must be.
QUITTING DOESN"T WORK. We have 80% of our flight attendents quit within the first year. Do you think anything changes by that? No, not a thing. If someone off the street comes here to work as a F/A they can't believe how much time away from home they are and how much they are at work for such little money, so they quit. Pilots on the other hand have $50k or more spend on edumatcation. So they can't just walk away. Is this clear enough for you? I will quit when either two things happen. I get a job elsewhere (And there are lots of us looking) or two management wakes us and treates PSA employees like real people and obeys our contract.

80% of the FAs may quit in the first year but it costs 4Xs as much to train a pilot then an FA. What costs they lose in training FAs is recovered by keeping the majority of them on 1st year pay.

Ya i agree sort of....Are you saying they treat pilots better than the f/a's? We essentially have the same lifestyle. Reserve, Crap hotels... Pilots just don't quit as often because we have a harder time finding a replacement job. Only because we are limited by our field of choice. Yes we could all get a job at Sears but we are here for an airline career, not just some jo blow job. Company has it great. They know our hands are tied.

Gabby, I admire that your trying to change the way things are at PSA, but as the saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day"

Sub-par contracts have been the norm at the regionals for 25 years. It will take years (if ever) to get the type of reasonable contracts that pilots at the regionals deserve.

The problem is, as pilots, we are our own worst enemy. I bet there are thousands of eager pilots chomping at the bit to get your "s*#&*" job. And many of them would do it for less then you make.

Why do you thing good ole Johnny O can't stand to have pilots with more then 5 years on the property working for him. They now make too much money in his eyes and are no longer an asset to the company.

Unfortunetly, it is what it is. Don't give yourself health problems over PSA. TK and the rest of the gang just aren't worth it. It's no-longer a profession. It's just a job.

There are better flying jobs out there, pm if you want to hear about a few.

Better go buy some stamps. What makes yiou think it will be any better any place else? Once a low tide has been established, all the other carriers must cut to stay competitive, even your future job. Unless you wake up and leave aviation.

Or stop complaining.

You know i asked a couple of senior people what it was like say 5 or 10 years ago and they all tell me that scheduling, hotels, morale were all much much better. So what happened? Why does management want to make our lives more difficult? Why don't they want to have happy employees? And why is it that Labor has absolutly no power whatsoever? I feel like i am alone when i talk about changes and making this place a worth while place to work. Everyone just walks around pissed off, but still leaves on time, single engine. Shows 15 min before show time. Its like we are all perfect employees getting treated like we are the worst. I don't think you have to treat your employees like dirt just to be competitive. Chautauqua is a prime example!

Uhhh ... 9/11

Everyone just walks around pissed off....

Well before all the cuts started happening in the industry, CHQ was paid a fairly low wage. PSA had better pay and QOL. After the cuts, CHQ was still low wages, not much change. PSA and other quality regionals lost a lot, thus people are pissed off.... I don't think there was any way management could have taken away the higher pay and everything else they did and we'd be happy about it. Do you? Not saying they have to treat employees the way they do, but the current condition of labor relations was forged during the 2 BK's... just my opinion of course.

Things are bad all over. Ain't no cake walk here at mainline either. We work 50% more than we did 20 years ago for 40% less pay. Now, apply that to regionals/commuters with their operations and apply the same level of job quality degradation and you have a misery index off the scale. Honestly I don't know how they do it day in day out. I have talked to several pilots back from furlough that were in the JfJ program and the stories they tell...OMG!!!

Things were never suppose to be this way. Mainline scope language used to say we flew all jets. That was there for a reason. Time spent at the commuters was in preparation for the mainline job with it's higher pay and benefits. Well, in come the money boys set to undo everything about our careers that was good and enjoyable. Life is good at the top...sucks everywhere below. The sad truth is I'm at a point now that I think they must enjoy handing out this misery...otherwise they wouldn't be so good at it. Liars a cheats all, living the good life at the expense of the employees.

The people that voted no to the 900s at PSA have more stones than the majority of ALPA. At least someone was willing to say NO. Only time will tell if this rubs off on others.

Sorry for the rambling.

Gabby
Many of us at mainline DO feel your pain. It is unfortunate that the regionals all got caught up in the new airline order...outsourcing airplanes and routes to the regionals and paying pauper wages. The only difference in you and res is that 99% of the crews speak english.

It's funny, the ONLY consistant monet making airline has all the same kind of equipment and have not gone the rj route. Yup, Southwest.

Time for ALL of US to start informational picketing.

And Gabby, I don't think the sun rises and sets in mainline but please don't forget that it isnt rosey here. UMMM, 20 years with a company and I am wondering if I can work a great holiday trip? POOR!!!

The other day i was flying over the smokey mountains thinking i really like this job. Then i got back to the crew room, got my next months schedule, 3 days before the start of it. And bang, back into the "This sucks" mode.
10 days off, Reserve schedule, no weekends, and i commute.
Informational picketing....Can i do that while on Hot Reserve? Whatever it takes to make this job what it should be you have my 100%. Hell i would even dust off my boxing gloves and do a few rounds with TK. hmmmmm now i feel better.

I agree with your sentiments. I have been in this business for a decade now in various capacities and at every turn there has been an MBA somewhere looking to cut my bottom line to pad their own.

There are no shortage of MBA's graduating from Wharton and other institutions so maybe the same law of supply and demand should apply to their wages. After all, there is no shortage of MBAs seeking management positions so their wages and benefits should be whipped into submission too right?

The funny thing is...I'd like to see just one of them try to fly a jet airplane in windshear with the autopilot disconnected...really I would...I'd pay good money to see it.

Hmmm.....

In talking with a higher-up of PDT today, it was mentioned that there will be a "major announcement" coming up in the next week or so. Could it be that something between PDT and PSA is in the works??

With Houk out, Crellin in, and Farrow nearing retirement, this could be BIG!! <_< (Farrow is the head of PDT for those that don't know)

What the he11 is all this nonsense about now? More lies and deception...somebody please elaborate for those of us that are tired of these ridiculous rumors

And why is it that Labor has absolutly no power whatsoever?
For pilot labor specifically, it is because for every airline pilot, there are ten kids standing in line eager to do anything to stay current and build time. I bet you were one of those kids not long ago.

Maybe it is time to break the cycle.
