REVENUE CATCHING IDEAS

Ok lets revisit the whole pillow and blanket issue. If we sold them as FlightChic stated but now going a bit further. Imagine them selling a wrapped pillow and blanket but INCLUDE a cheap pair of foam earplugs and an eye mask. Maybe around $7.00. I think they would sell like hot cakes. I also believe that a child's activity kit would sell fast as well on longer flights. Limit the beverage choices too. Hey McDonald's does quite well and they serve the basics with powerade. We can simplify with out "cheapifying" the offering. It CAN be done.

Come on US Airways marketing people, here's your chance! This is a great idea! Partner up with JC Penny, Brookstone, or some other company who can use their NAME on the packaging to subsidize the costs!!! You should easily be able to get a $15 - $20 quality unit for a $5 - $7 price point using a major retailer's name... Package it as a shipper unit that can easily be displayed at the gate area, using the same concept that Jet Blue does their headsets...

I want to come work for US Airways marketing department. There are so many missed opportunities.
 
I agree with with bringing Hazmat back and looking at ways to increase cargo revenue. Also, each station and departmet should be required to trim middle management. We have too many supervisors whose main job is to make sure the employees are doing their job. Cut back on management and make each employee more responsible. I don't know what the ratio is for the number of employees per supervisor, but I expect it is low. We can learn to get by with 1 sup per 30 or 40 agents.

Cut back on service where we compete head to head with WN until their fuel costs catch up with the rest of us. Use these aircraft to increase service to international destinations where widebodies are not needed such as Mexico, Canada and Central America. We hardly touch Central America now...We can add service to Panama, Nicaraugua and El Salvador....and in Mexico we can add service to cities like Veracruz, Merida, Monterrey and Tampico.

US/East has shipped hazmat for years, now after the merger they don't, so now FedEx and Air Taxis ship Aircraft parts, costing probably millions of dollars a year.

And you probably mean ValuJet, and O2 Generators are prohibited.

AA, DL, CO, NW and UA all ship hazmat including their mtc parts.

We had no problems at US, but now it is costing lots of money to use FedEx and Air Taxis to get the parts to where they belong.

I am talking about fuel pumps, a/c batteries, Oxygen Tanks and etc....
 
good idea to increase mail and cargo but lets look at why we dont carry much now.about ten years ago the company came up with an idea to contract out the mail and cargo jobs that were being done by fleet service.they said they would save by eliminating ramp jobs that were paying about 20.00 hr back then and replace them with contract carriers making about 7.00 hr.only problem was that they did such a poor job that the company lost many freight contracts worth millons of dollars and lost mail contracts that were worth billions.yes thats right billions not millions.just look at the post office awarded contracts to ups and fedex.they dont offer the schedules that the airlines do but they get the mail their ontime.cant tell you how many fines usairways incurred from delayed mail after contracting out the fleet jobs but the guys in the post office would tell us it was happening every day until usairways lost those contracts.ask any ramper how much mail and freight they now load compared to back then.the problem is unlike freedom who admitted a mistake on an earlier post usairways never admits that they are wrong.hard to change their thinking.
 
US needs a "Fly with US" ad campaign, where they show smiling, friendly employees giving wonderful service.

We can't do that because it would be false advertising! :lol:

Thanks. I can see the blanket being either blue or grey with some catchy writing on the packaging. Maybe writing Shhhhhhh or keep quiet on the ear plugs package and Nighty Night on the eye mask. Hell even throw in a breath mint for when you wake up. Ya see things like this CAN be done. If only they would listen to the front line when it's really necessary.

As far as the smaller cup how about teaming up with Coke and letting them put their logo on it.

I could almost guarantee you that coke would supply the cups for free if their name was on it... In our employee cafe, we use Pepsi products. Pepsi gives us so much stuff for free. Coolers, display units, etc. They are very giving when you put their name on display...
 
the reason airlines have to match fares is because of over capacity.lets say WN flys bwimco 3flts every day for 100 dollars.usairways flys 3 for the same fare but cant make money.simple,dont fly that route.take those planes and put them in an area that you control market share.WN now has to increase flts or another airline picks up the slack and loses money.win for usairways.airlines know how many pax fly in and out of each airport on a daily basis.thats how they determine how many flts to offer.now say 500 people no longer can fly bwimco because of flt reductions.if WN increases flts they have to give up market share in some other market.go into that market and strangle them.to make that work on bwimco WN will have to increase fares to offset losing market share in the other market.now come back and fly bwimco.stop letting them dictate to us what we can do.start making them do what we want.why do we fly markets that we cant make money in.just fly the ones that we can.the other airlines dont have enough a/c to go everywhere.be more selective and decrease capacity in areas that you lose money.increase in areas that you control market share.stop being a follower and become a leader.just because american and united jump off a bridge doesnt mean we have to.
 
Start charging a fee for gate check items. Is it me or are there more gate checks than EVER??? The strollers are bigger than ever, the wheelchairs are heavier than ever....start charging for that currently "FREE" service....might not be politically correct but tell that to my knees....they are about shot.....

Well one thing is for sure... The strollers are rediculous... They're like the size of a small car.

I have an idea... Install a third bulkhead and bring back business class. Even if the seats are still coach seats, keep children out of it. Make the people with kids sit in the rear of the plane. Kind of follow WN's lead - make this "business class" come with a free drink and a few extra frequent flyer miles.

OK, I'll concede the wheelchairs....but the freaking strollers, c'mon now...have you seen these lately? Does everyone have twins or triplets today? WTF?
