Thank You To Whom Ever Made This Merger Possible

A lot of people on here are wondering why so many AA employees are interested in this merger, and are arguing against the US employees. Once this merger goes through, if the unions decide to dovetail or do something close to it, that would give ammunition to the TWA folks at AA to reopen the seniority issue, something the AA folks have a great deal of interest in trying to squash. So, in a way, the AA people are watching this merger very closely to see what will happen.

Ditto on what FA Mikey said. Whatever the US/HP people do has NO bearing on the AA Seniority deal.

Great. I guess that means you can both stop obsessing over this merger and get bAAck to your lives.

The nastiness of some US posters on this board, right now directed at the opinions expressed by employees of other airlines, will end up directed at the poor HP employees once they wake up and realize how DOH is going to affect them. When the HP employees speak up, the rudeness expressed by people like First Amendment will really come out.

Best of luck to the HP employees. You will need it.

Uh, it's more like you started the pissing contest. Now you want the moderator to step in on your behalf, and squelch free speech?

Perhaps you should change your name to Patriot Act.

No. Just change it to "AArticle 32".

Freedom of Speech only applies to the government restricting speech, not a message board moderator.

I work for HP and have been here for about 20yrs. I am very excited about the merger with US. I have a question I hope someone here can help me with. The union that we have on the ramp is TWU, and the union that US has is IAM. Can anyone help me figure out who determines what union will stay and what union will go. I realize that US is a bigger union with over 4,500 members combared to our 2,500. I also have looked at US current contract and I realize they agreed to it to try and stay out out b/r but their contract goes until 2009 and out contract is up. So i guess I'm asking if we combine into us union our we stuck with their cotract or do we get a whole new one for the new airline? Thanks for any help phxramp

I am getting the feeling that nearly all of us at HP are screwed unless Doug calls off the deal. The potential merger partners seem to want to say "thanks" and "date-of-hire" in the same sentence. In my view, that is not showing any gratitude at all.

HP what do you want? PhX will be fenced. The Union already said that. If you could have it any way you wanted it but you had to take the merger what would you like. Please don't say staple its just rude.

Go read my prior posts. I never said staple. I have said relative seniority. Go read my posts.

HP FA,
I would not wish the iam on anyone. They are the worst union at everything they do, except in taking our union dues and doing nothing for us in return. They keep saying that our contract can't be opened for renegotiation, but they keep opening it to extend it, with less pay for us each time, but the dues keep going up. We have votes on things and when it doesn't go the way the iam wants it to, we have a revote and mysteriously the second vote always goes the way of the iam and not the way of the members. Hopefully we can have the twu as our representatives, or maybe the teamsters. I hope I answered your question satisfactorily. If you have any more questions ask away.

Thanks for the reply, thanks for warning me about iam. Not that TWU is a whole lot better. I was just wondering who decides what union stays and what union goes? I know your contract is bad, I thought ours was bad but when I saw yours I was shocked. I just don't know because you have more members we would combine into IAM'S UNION or does IAM combine into TWU'S. Do you know who determines this? Has anyone there at

thom,

Please don't take what I'm about to say as gospel - it's a vague recollection of something posted on the US board a while back and I can't find the original post.

If memory is semi-correct, it was said that "normally" the union with the highest percentage of the combined group is the successor union. Barring something cut and dried written in labor law, however, I would assume that there might be something of a fight between the two unions. When all is said and done, after all, neither one would want to lose members (and the dues they represent).

Jim
