The Call

Some what off topic but it does appear that the military is going to be dragged into the 21st century. One more brick in the homophobia wall may be tumbling down.

100 generals and admirals ask for repeal of "Don't ask ..."
"As is the case with Great Britain, Israel, and other nations that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion, and sexuality," the officers wrote.

My guess is that it has more to do with the male "machismo" thing. Gays can't fight like heteros can.

I remember reading about the Tuskegee Airmen. The white pilots along with a lot of the officers felt that having blacks fighting side by side with whites would disrupt the military. They also felt that blacks were not as loyal to the US and were not as capable (read smart) as whites. It ended up that the Tuskegee Airmen were one of the most unsuccessful air wings in the US military. Initially, the bombers did not realize who was flying their escorts for them. Quite a few where abhorred by the fact that blacks were saving their asses. After th white realized that the Tuskegee Airmen were some of the best in the air the bomber squads started to request escort by the Tuskegee Airmen by name. If memory serves me (too lazy to verify) the Tuskegee Airmen never lost a single escort aircraft to enemy fire. One of (if not the only) squad with such a record.

It is ironic that Elenore Roosevelt, a whit woman, was one of their strongest advocates.

The bottom line is that allowing blacks to serve in the military and eventually granting blacks equal protection under the law did not destroy the fabric of society. Gays will eventually be allowed to serve openly in the US military, they will be granted equal protection under the law and the bigots in this country will find another minority to try and oppress. Then the cycle will start anew.

Nothing wrong with giving into temptation every now and then depending on the circumstances.

Speaking of woman in the military. I thought I just read somewhere that we have the first 4 star female General. Comes from a military family. Her 90 yr old dad was there to see the star pined on her. Pretty cool. We still have along way too go IMO as faras equality among the sexes/racees go but we have come along way in the last decade or two.

The Queers are Finally Bashing Back!

Excerpt:
While Bash Back! does not advocate state or church sanctioned marriage in any form, BB! News is delighted that the oppressed are physically confronting the oppressors. We hope that this is just the beginning.

very short and incomplete list of recent strikes against homophobes:

At least 8 Mormon Churches “Vandalizedâ€￾

Layton/Ogden:
7 Mormon Churches had windows shot out with a BB Gun

San Diego:
Mormon Church Vandalized to shouts of, “Mormon Scum!â€￾

Sacramento:
10 Mormon Churches have been “vandalizedâ€￾

Colorado:

Olympia:
Clandestine Bash Back! operatives glue locks and spray paint Mormon Church

Michigan:
Bash Back! disrupts Mt. Hope Church service

We hope that these events inspire each and every disenfranchised trans/queer person, and all oppressed people, to take power into their own hands.

Is Anarchy the Answer in Proposition 8 Protests?

Excerpt:
"I don't want to keep it peaceful anymore," one protester yelled. "We should fight! We should fight!"

The area's Calvary Chapel Chino Hills was spray painted by vandals after they learned that the church served as an official collection point for Prop. 8 petitions.

Does berating a near-elderly woman who supports Prop 8, and spitting on her for having beliefs different than you, help the cause? I don't think so. Yes, there's frustration, but funneling that frustration into more productive, effective methods of pushing your cause will do a lot more good than just further alienating those whose support you could use. If the idea is to encourage others to be more open-minded and accepting of those different from them, beating them into submission (metaphorically speaking, hopefully) might not be the best route.
-xUT Very well stated!

Perhaps they can add Catholic Clergy Pedophile (CCP) to it? Since the Vatican all but condones it (through lack of action) why can't the rest follow the example?

Oh yes, the great justification.
Some priests commit pedophilia so it must be OK for everyone else to do it.

GOD Bless,

It's called sarcasm. You seem to throw all gays into the same boat with the radical representatives so I thought I would throw it right back at you. The clinic bombers and Pat Robersons of the world are no more representative of Christianity in general than the extremist of any other group represent their group as a whole. So why don't you put down you paint brush.

One more victory in the fight for equal rights.

Judge rules agaist gay adoption ban in FL

Florida's strict law banning adoption of children by gay people was found unconstitutional Tuesday by a state judge who declared there was no legal or scientific reason for sexual orientation alone to prohibit anyone from adopting.

Now if Obama can fix the USC and the rest of the Federal bench maybe we can lay this issue to rest once and for all.

The task of picking more liberal judge appointments does not strike me as a difficult task. As to whether of not Obama will be able to change the direction of this country I do not know. My guess is he will not. The people who run this country are far to entrenched for one man to make a difference. I hope I am wrong and only time will tell.

Good Luck with that. No doubt NoBama will elect 'liberal' judges -vis a vi- judges 'regardless' of their qualifications.

Yea, we need more public housing that can not be policed 'TODAY'!

We need to ‘free’ the poor inmates that can not watch MTV!

Damn, what an injustice! Societal limits and retribution…What a cosmic thought…
