What's new

THE NEW USAIRWAYS & AFA66

Demand ? We did that already and got us nothing. We demanded seniority protection, we demanded a fence. What the hell did the easties do? NOTHING! What did Pat Friend do? NOTHING.
Actually, the easties fought for our rightful seniority protection which is CONTRACTUAL and won. Believe me, we were pretty quiet about it because if we had lost that one, you would have HEARD US! Don't even think about screwing with what little we have left. We have been battered and our wages are now on your level. Fences? Furgettabout it. You can bet that when they go down, people will be moving as fast as old PSA legs can move!

Look, I could really care less about what my seniority is as long as I have a job and can pay my bills (it's gone up and down every since I started at USAir), but if you're so upset about AFA's DOH merger policy then maybe you should've voted in another union. That policy has been there way before AFA66 was ever thought of and while I applaud your union for trying to make an effort to protect you, I would certainly hope that you know that the AWA flight attendants were not the only flight attendants that are represented by AFA. When you joined AFA back in 199? you also joined around 75,000-100,000 other flight attendants at several other airlines who agreed with it. Now enough of that, this is not about a fence (by the way I am one person who feels that the AWA flight attendants deserved some sort of fence for PHX)or DOH, it is about how all of US deserve to be treated as the professinals that we are and with the respect that we deserve. Please do not have such a nasty attitude toward your co-workers, we may all need each other some time soon.

Tell that to Poweruppowerdown. Isn't she/he the one that threw the first stone and opened a can of worms? Calling the westies unprofessionals.

Keep pissing us off like this, we're all going to stay divided and end up with a sh*tty contract.

PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE I SAID, IN YOUR WORDS, WESTIES EMPLOYEES, ARE UNPROFESSIONALS. UNLESS YOU WORK IN HQ OR ARE A UNION REP, I NEVER REFERRRED TO EMPLOYEES IN THAT MANNER.

PowerUp never said that about you, they made the comment about the people higher up and about the union (although after what someone said about them (the union)being tied up I can understand them being overwhelmed). I have MANY friends from AWA and will be the first to stand up for you guys. Seriously, we need to get it together.

It's so interesting how threads and stories gets twisted. I don't even think some of the posters here read the entire thread. Seriously, the Unions are working very hard. Powerup, do you get any of the AFA email updates? If not, I suggest you subscribe to the AFA updates. I also urge you to get involve in the office, so you can get familiar with the west contract.

TheNewLowFare,

Thank you. Yes, let's please get back on track. Let me repeat what I said earlier........

IpourNotCan,

The Easties can all go back East, as you suggest, if we're so unhappy. But, that's not really going to get rid of us. There is a block of 5,000 or so back East that you're eventually going to have to deal with. Why not take a moment and think about what we're asking for - ACCOUNTABILITY from this management team. Is that so bad? We need you and you need US. Let's get together and start DEMANDING this from this Company!! Unfortunately in today's world, it's in the "Corporate DNA" to aggessively get everything it can from it's employees and to humiliate them. Only with a unified Labor Group will we be able to combat this!

Not sure how this got twisted into East versus West. That is not what I intended or want. It is however, what this Company wants.

Jetdude,
no offense, but its employees like yourself that justify the companies lack of repect for its employees. I mean if an employee just sits back and lets the company do whatever it wants, when it wants, at the pace they want to, and are never held accountable for their actions, they will continue to do so. Its time for a change here, and i do mean NOW.
WHO ELSE THINKS THE COMPANYS TAG LINE "WE ARE BUILDING A BETTER AIRLINE BY TAKING CARE OF OUR CUSTOMERS FIRST" IS A JOKE?
You need to wake up and smell the coffee!
Stop justifying things and DEMAND CHANGE.

Well, as I stated, I was not justifying anything, contrary to your belief. I too work to make this a better place, everyday. And yet I do so without having to blast EVERYONE. I also don't let the small things bother me so much. There are clearly some things that I cannot change. So what do I do? I do the absolute best that I can in everything I do.

Just because something did not go my way does not mean that AFA has sold themselves to the company or that all management is bad.

What I do understand is that there is only one thing for certain. I will never know everything, no will anyone else. So I have learned to accept that some-not all decisions are made because of circumstances that I don't even know about. I stand up for what I believe in without having to kill everyone else along the way.

So yes, I prefer to try to understand what is going on, and try to face things in a peaceful way. In no way does that me I don't stand up for myself or for what I believe in.

During this merger, no one is going to get everything they want.

Me too. I don't like being referred as US West either.
I hope the division will not last long too. We need to be united, not divided. People need to take a chill pill! 🙂
When i hear "US West", I still think of the phone company, the predecessor to Qwest

People, people calm down. What MAA is saying is essentially right, we need to hold our coworkers and management as accountable as they hold us. There is nothing wrong with that view, in fact, good management holds themselves as accountable as they hold their peons.

MAA is also right that if we do not form a common bond then we will get a lousy contract.

I too have had my issues with the Pass Department and frankly, they need to clear that place out or at least hire some more people. The airline TRIPLED in size and they still have ONLY four people, come on, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that they are going to need MORE staff. I am sure they do not pay those folks a lot how much can it cost to get a few more warm bodies in to answer phones!!!

Now, there are a lot of pissed off people about this merger. Honestly, if anyone, east or west does not like it, then work together to change it. It really is that simple.

On a final note, I did read this whole thread, the word legacy was brought up many times. Lets remember that we are no longer a legacy, we are just using the legacy name. Everything is changing and will change. Change is a part of everyday life. Does that mean that management should not be held accountable, HELL NO. What it means is that we, as the rank and file, need to try to open our minds just a little tiny bit to the idea that maybe, just maybe, the old way was NOT the best way.

There have been improvements on both coasts. The snack basket is coming out west and our first class pax are going to love it. Glassware is coming back out east. The meals have been improved in first and predeparture beverage service is supposed to be done across the board! So, lets continue with the good things.

AND, lets work together to show this management team the sheer power of our size! Lets HOLD them accountable and get a decent contract. I mean, we are profitable right?

... MANAGEMENT IS THE ENEMY...
What are you smoking? We are in this together, and that includes Management.

What is simple is your thinking.

We are still a legacy carrier. Just because we folded in a low cost carrier does not negate the fact that we, US Airways, have been around for a very long time.

I am not going to argue about the Legacy -vs- LCC thing with you. It is not worth it, we have bigger things to worry about than whether or not we are a legacy or a LCC.

I am sorry if you feel my thinking is simple, maybe if we just kept it simple everything would be a hell of a lot easier!

JMM,

Great post and on point! Also, thanks for thoughtfully reading the entire thread. I think that anyone that takes the time to sort through this thread will see that the underlying message is that we/US (AFA, EAST/WEST) have a professional right and obligation to expect nothing less than the professionalism that we show, on-the-line, everyday, from this Company. You're also correct that "good management holds themselves as accountable as they hold their employees". My experiences, to date, have not seen this from this mgt. team. What I have seen is, "lazy is, as lazy does". We/US deserve and have a professional right to expect better.

AGREED 100%

I got the underlying tone that it was becoming an east/west thingy. I am so OVER that. Management wants us to keep at each other throats so they can shove a shitty contract down our throat. I try my best not to let myself get into all that crap. Sometimes I fall into the trap as we all do but we all need to remember we are in this ship together and we can either sink it, or sail it. Personally I want to sail it because I really love my job. Once that door closes and we push, that is what it is all about!

Okay JMM. So have you checked out LGA yet?

Why pray tell, would I do that?
