Under The You Need To Be Kidding Department

Don't flatter yourself. "An Inconvenient Truth" is that human beings haven't yet proved ourselves even able to much effect Mother Earth's processes in any significant fashion. How about having a wee bit of faith that technology can/will be developed along the way as needed. We're an insane species..but not entirely suicidal in any case.

An inconvenient truth is we can and do effect Mother Earth's processes in significant ways and the civilized world recognizes it.

It is pretty widely understood that were it not for the Industrial Revolution of the mid-1800s, Europe would have endured a "mini ice age".

Wow. We finally disagree on something.

We're not deliberately suicidal. We're ignorantly suicidal.

On that..we've the fullest agreement. Where we presumably differ is within the context of: "And the education may come to late to reverse course." History's shown Homo Sapiens to be an extremely resourceful, top-shelf buncha' little predators, whenever major problems need "fixing". Crazy? = certainly...but definately a bit "clever" overall. That such will always prove true is anyone's guess, but, imho, we MUST continue to develop...or else certainly perish. Heck..the Earth herself's only got a "warranty" of a few more billion years prior to the sun going red giant/etc. Without taking continuous "leaps of faith", and developing and experimenting with technology as it becomes available...the planet and species will become history in any case...and that's without the "benefit" of even a colliding asteroid in the meanwhile 😉 Arguably, within those grandiose expanses of time..one may well expect major evolutionary advances as well....BUT: If we didn't have the benefit of "whack-cases" willing to try out "impossible" and "dangerous" ideas..we'd not even be flying around today. Planes crash/etc...any and all things sometimes go bad..but we've gotta' keep going forward.

"and the civilized world recognizes it." That's "cute" and easy rhetoric..but without the least bit of actual, hard science behind it. Sign me up as a barbarian then, since I believe in actual physics, chemistry and real science. Volcanic erruptions alone have effected things far more than "we" ever have...and yet!!??..the Earth remains!!?? Ummm. ever bother to note that, even within the "Inconvenient Truth" BS Gore put out..that temperatures raise prior to the carbon levels?...Ever have a greenhouse?. Another "Inconvenient Truth" long held was that the world was flat...and "the civilized world agreed" Yet another terrified potential rail road develpment with the fantasy that any speed above 30 miles per hour would suck all the air from the passenger cars. Flight...very naturally..was also "impossible"..and that was universally agreed to within "the civilized world" for thousands of years. It was long held as fatal "heresey" that the earth, (while finally being admittedly spherical by "the civilized world"..., after enough burnings at the stake) actually revolved around the sun...by the "politically correct" crowd of the time. Spare me/any/all the currently "politically correct" BS "the civilized world"..supposedly "thinks" 😉 Mob stupidity, mindless fears and/or wanton ignorance doesn't properly substitute for science or any semblance of fact. FYI: The "Inconvenient Truth" prevalent in the late 60's was that we were all headed into an imminent Ice Age...and that sorry BS had it's full share of devoted "believers" as well.

I make no suggestion that we recklessly abuse our home here, but..we MUST be willing to continually develop with all resources and ideas, and not be too intimidated to do so by fear and mob mentality...aka "Politically Correct"...LOL.."thinking".

I saw this little book in the supermarket checkout line, in between the TV Guide and Soap Opera Digest. Anthropomorphic global warming is just so fashionable these days.

From the latter posts I can see that the greener-wiener brigade has come out of hiding. Again with environment and weather and summer(wieners call it Global Warming). I remember once we were going in the Ice Age because winters were...can you believe it?...COLD! I'm talking about the 60s and 70s, not thousands of years ago.

We don't control the weather. The more you conserve, the more the price of oil, gas and utilities rises! Case in point, a few years back the utility company made a pitch on conserving energy. We did so well that because they lost money they raised our rates!

You don't control the weather and 'Mother Nature' is self-regulatory. A puny human may think themselves as a god but YOU are not God. You don't control volcanos, earthquakes, natural disasters, etc, and man hasn't destroyed the earth yet, and I wouldn't worry about it.

If you want to conserve, then worry about yourselves and let me destroy my share of the planet enjoying life. We need to drill for oil at home. If not for oil, you would be living in a cave. There is a misconception about drilling for oil.

I agree 100%.

My '07 Chevy Silverado Z1 with the extended cab, and my wife' new Yukon Denali with DVD Navigation and the auto opening tailgate NEED GAS NOW!!!!

I say we start drilling in your back yard NOW.

Just stay away from my yard because my daughter, Snowflake, gets very tense at the sound of drilling rigs.

Lets see, in the last 20 years, environmentalists have kept us from building any more nuclear plants (the cleanest and greenest and most efficient way to make electricity today), they have kept us from building any more refineries (less supply + more demand = higher costs), they have kept us from drilling in ANWAR (and have the audacity to say that if we started now, we wouldn't see anything for over 5 years, but they KEPT us from drilling 10+ years ago), we can't drill offshore, but "green" countries like Norway have upped offshore drilling like crazy.

Environmentalism is a religion, you can't talk with reason, evidence and logic. America is one of the cleanest places on the globe, why? Economic freedom.

Where there is economic freedom, there is personal freedom, there is less poverty, and more stewardship of our resources.

I'm all for a nice clean world, but the environmentalists went too far, they enjoy the fact that the economy is tanking. That is just wrong.

..but we've gotta' keep going forward.

Sorry. I don't see trashing the environment in the name of progress as moving forward at all. Basically, we as a species are sh*****g in our house at an increasing rate. We have a mighty big house, but eventually we will have to live in it. Expecting human ingenuity to always come to the rescue seems about as prudent as planning to win the lottery instead of saving for retirement.

I have a point to ponder...

At one time there were dinosaurs. Did they become extinct because they destroyed the environment?

It is going to take at least 30 years go come off of our dependancy on oil and migrate to alternate technology... We better all hope that we can secure OUR supply of oil for the next 30 years...

If I had to choose between the environment or securing energy for our future, ummm... I think energy is the right choice.

Global warming isn't so bad anyway. I know I'll love the warmer temperatures...
