US 807 CLT-PHX-HNL today...and tomorrow

The similar CLT-HNL thread on flyertalk has a question posed by myself and BoeingBoy - what is involved in getting the 762 certified for more range? It doesn't seem like it could be simply paying Boeing for the certification paper work without some changes to the aircraft and/or components.

Since the remaining 332's have been delayed after 2 more get delivered in 2010, it might be time to think about a longer term plan for the 762 if they won't be replaced as soon as previously thought.

According to Flightstats, US 807 is preparing to land in HNL. I'm relieved that they finally made it all the way across the Pacific nonstop.

Wheres Caligirl, no that the flight actually made it due to lower head winds she is nowhere to be found!! 😱

WS utilizes -800s to Hawaii. Their -600s tend to stay inland...we get a few in PHX every week.

Thanks for the correction. That'll teach me to check only one day between the 25th and 1/1/2010, and without my glasses to boot. That 8 sure did look like a 6 when I squinted....

So the plane is capable of making the distance without any structural change. Make it happen

I didn't read thru the last few pages on this post, so I'm not sure if anyone else already brought this up. Since there are now 5 330-200's in the fleet, why don't they sub one of them on the HNL flight until the headwinds calm down to the point where the 767 can make the trip? I know that the PHL-TLV R/T requires 2 of them, and the others are being used out of PHL to a few other destinations that the 767 or 330-300 can make on a regular basis. I realize that the
HNL flight may not be a high yield market, but it would look a heck of a lot better if you could make this new market work with the flight actually being Nonstop as advertised.

It's difficult to substitute equipment like that without a fair amount of setup and planning. Say the 767 is doing fine, then one day the winds kick up and it looks like an A330 day. Who flies the airplane back when it gets to HNL? The pilots there are 767 pilots, so they can't do it. The only way it would work is if the day BEFORE, they deadheaded an A330 cockpit crew on the 767 to HNL and put them up in a hotel awaiting their flight back on the 330 the next day. And, if the day following that they decided to go back to the 767, it all has to happen again...a full day in advance.

The A330 OCT-APR should be sufficent. It is not like they need to do maintenance on them. But then again they are not built like the F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Actually most of US' widebodies undergo their HMV visit during the winter when transatlantic flying is pulled down

Now that the crews have made it several times - let us in on how they like it and what they've been up to.
Aloha!
Popped up early here in HNL. We got in 3 hrs late, but we came without a stop. There was a computer and fuel pump problem with the aircraft. We were all sad that we were late, but happy to not have to make a fuel stop.

First, let me say I really like the passengers going to HNL. They are so excited about going to HNL that even a delay doesn't bother them. I worked FC and the people up there were amazing! My D F/A was great and we provided a superior service. The F/A's in the back served by the flow chart and all in all, the day went well.

My only complaint is that there is not enough time with the delays to adequately fix issues like seat issues with the IFE in FC, but again, I was lucky that many just wanted to sleep.

Our FC food was the best I have served in a very long time. The arrival meal was hearty and tasty.

There were 3 movies and 4 hrs worth of short subject vids, so there was plenty to watch.

I might add we gave everyone a free first cocktail that wanted and gave out free headsets for being late. FYI, I made sure we had extras brought out so the return would not be screwed.

I was tired upon arrival, but VERY satisfied with the service we provided...front AND back ...on this very low yield flight.

Going to enjoy HNL! Merry Christmas everyone!

Good to hear!

Go hit the out of the way Sand Island La Mariana Restaurant, its HNL old school and no pesky tourists.

Plus, its right off the runway, right on the water so fun for plane watching.

Enjoy
