Just always remember that it is those of us who fly who actually pay your salaries and the opinion we have of you as professionals is certainly part of our decision when we choose a company with which to fly.

Good luck to you all and I hope you have the ability to survive the current economic climate

Madam,
My planes are full and my passengers are arriving on time. Of all the problems this airline has, the pilots are the least of it as a cause. I'm well aware that the passenger are the source of my income, I just wish the leaders of this airline would pay attention.

I was fully professional today, even after staying in a crummy layover hotel where the van was over an hour late picking us up and I wasn't able to to find so much as a 7-11 for a microwave meal.

Your "good luck" wish reeks of disingenuousness and you can deny it, but your interest here is far more than that of a simple passenger.

I will re-consider[sic] my thinking on flying with U.S. Airways and, if I do choose your company, I hope the captain and first officer on my aircraft are the folks here who posted in reply that they want me in their aircraft, want me to have a totally routine flight (memorable for the service and ease as opposed to any mishap) and would welcome the chance to show their professionalism.

🙄  Seriously? There are no statistics or indicators which provide any evidence, specifically noted for this airline and these professionals, for you to insinuate or to believe otherwise. This isn't my fight, my employer, nor my business so I instinctively stay mute and simply read the opposing viewpoints to gain insight into the issues.

Buy a ticket or don't, that is your decision. This group of individuals (unique, divided, outspoken and diverse) have been nothing but exactly what they've been paid to be when they are in uniform: professional and exact. To insinuate otherwise is simply untrue. Venting is human, a normal healthy psychological activity. Intellectually, everyone is aware that venting is exactly what is happening here, and the preferred alternative. If you are as smart as you've claimed to be, you should have been able to come to that conclusion.

Enjoy your flying experience, no matter your choice.

Thank you, Lark. You're the best. It's nice to read your posts as they are always lucid, grounded, logical, thoughtful and right on target!

Well said Lark, comments opinions venting etc,etc have no bearing whatsoever on the future of this company. With bankruptcies, turmoil and industry chaos and the always present for sale sign on USAirways doorstep, I have seen nothing but professionalism in the cockpit. The idea that internal opinions and comments shape our destiny is naive at best.

It's nice that USAPA has secured this west contract enhancement for the 1700 non-payers of dues.
Yes, it's nice. It may even save my job until the next announced cuts. At the same time, however, USAPA is trying to negotiate a seniority integration that will favor the East. So this ELOA action is kind of like giving us a piece of candy just before sucker-punching us in the gut.
You're welcome, anyway.
Gratitude will be shown only when it's deserved.

"Yes, it's nice. It may even save my job until the next announced cuts." "Gratitude will be shown only when it's deserved." Nothing's too good for you out there, is it?...Heck..nothing's ever going to be enough it seems. Save your "gratitude"..just grow up instead.

I love your analogy..as it's certainly, most fitting for the demonstrated maturity of the devout Nicsters = "...like giving us a piece of candy just before sucker-punching us in the gut." Candy and sucker-punches....

...

Good luck to you all and I hope you have the ability to survive the current economic climate

Thank you! I think most of the employees have the maturity, drive, outside business ventures, etc. in order to "survive the current economic climate."

The prognosis for several commercial carriers might not be so stable.

AAww..... You know it will be amusing. Still waiting for the next prognostication of supposedly "True" facts to come our way.

Sigh..Gentlemen...I've less real faith in that. I expect but yet more varitions of "I hate you Easties!..I just sooo totally hate you!...Gimme' my candy..my Nic!..Now!".."USAPA Sux!"/etc. If you truly seek out "amusing"?..Try the "Kudos" thread regarding the Madrid landing.

Too bad its closed. I can't believe what I saw there. Amazing, still shaking my head in disbelief.

Hey NLC, do you ever think before posting? Or is your predisposed vitriol towards the east clouding your better judgment? Your latest attempt at discrediting any east pilot should earn you an award. That of
being _____ (Insert descriptive) of the year.

Sure...and I'll even do it in terms suitable for westie "thought" processes...or at least...try my best to dumb it down to the max: "If an east coast pilot puts on extra fuel, obviously for no reason." How the HeII do YOU even pretend to know what the associated operational issues were? Your follow on is just too utterly brilliant for words = "(The company is not pulling everyone that did it into training.)" By that...oh "fellow pilot"...I must assume that you immediately believe that the company's completely correct, and that you have no problem with their actions?....Words simply fail me..so let's just stick with the basics:

1) Engines need fuel.
2) The Atlantic's kinda' cold and wet.
3) A LOT can/does happen with weather/airports/winds aloft/etc in the course of many hours.
4) NO/ZERO/ZIP flameouts have EVER been associated with assinine little punks having jumpseat " distress issues".
5) Grow Up....if at ALL even remotely possible...I'll hardly be holding my breath on that "issue"...nor do I wish to inflict any "unsafe Stress" levels on you poor widdle things out there, that need to use the jumpseat as your personal little baby pacifier....Bring some gum next flight..and you'll be fine.

To be fair, the fuel that the concern about is the destination arrival fuel, not flaming out over the Atlantic. The international flights are filed to a re-release point. If the flight does not have enough fuel to proceed past the re-release point, adjustments are made to the flight plan by the captain and dispatcher or the flight lands at a designated airport short of the destination. The captains are probably adding fuel because airline managements have shortened holding times in the interest of carrying less fuel which is more expensive and more expensive to fly around.

From a company perspective, this strategy makes sense. Note also the larger number of retirements on the East side.

Do you have numbers on the West retirements? There were only six early retirements in the 08-04 on the East. All retirements could be delayed five years since December 2007 if a pilot's health holds up. I don't think most will stay until 65, but most will stay past 60. The guys with the best seats will stay longest.
