US pilot labor thread 7/5-7/12

I assumed that, like much slang, it originated in "da 'hood." I figured it was the same generation that came up with "it' da bomb," or some such.

Every generation manages to confound its elders by coming up with terminology like that. Embarrassingly, my generation has "groovy," "outta sight," "that's heavy," and even "cool" (which has survived as "kewl.")

I'm sure "it's the bees knees" drove the parents of the 1920's crazy.

Indeed sir. I feel that the "Flapper Era" produced the most colorful and imaginative youthful slang yet heard. "23 Skiddoo" would have completely confounded any/all parents of the time all by itself. Of course "we" can be "credited" with the lost classic; "Right On!", and even the "What's Up?" greeting, susequently Hood-ized into "sup?" I'm thinking Oldie's about right on "My Bad", as I first recall that one around the house almost 20 years back or so. Outside of "Hood" origins; some fair consideration must be afforded the southern Calif/Valley-Speak cultural additives of "Waaay Cool"..."Sooo", "Totally" and "Tubular"/etc around that same era. If memory serves..."Booyashaka!" and "Shweet" came along a bit later...

....Interesting to see a relatively strife-free thread here for even a moment...There may be hope for us all yet 😉

snip for brevity
****I sincerely hope your company survives the current economic conditions and doesn't end up, as is widely predicted, in bankruptcy. After the previous bankruptcies, the next one may not be a CH 11. If that is the case, you won't have jobs and, probably, won't be able to get airline jobs because no one will be hiring. It won't matter if a well intentioned member of the flying public tried to tell you how you all sound and what the effect is on the potential passenger*****

Lady, USAir is probably in the best position to withstand the current mess than most of the other airlines. They hold a good cash position. If any airline goes TANGO UNIFORM, it will likely be UAUA or AMR in that order.

While it may be difficult to understand, airline employees have been under a serious gun for a long time. If you read here and cut the wheat from the chaff, you'll know that.

You pilots are like gangsters. You should have a sign you can throw up at each other back and forth in the terminal. That'd be entertaining for me, at least.

The westies had a sign during the USAPA campaign, although it was audio rather than visual (those clever westies...dontcha just love em with their poop-filled envelopes and all.)

To my knowledge, the easties never reciprocated in kind. I think we realized the USAPA lanyards and stickers were sufficient to get their knickers in a knot.

I believe that the standard for damages in a SLAPP suit is three times the legal fees paid to the defendant.

Let us know how it goes.

40 page slap down from the judge coming (with prejudice)USAPA's way.....

Booyashaka

for EastUS

2-0 in legal venues for the West. Soon it'll be 3 and out for the frustrated F/O club.

Stand by for the heater folks! He's in his wind-up and the grey haired gang won't even see this one coming!

No spin required. You guys did good getting it tossed. Hope everyone learned something from this.
Sure did.

#1 - You're legal team filed a lawsuit based on RICO. It should never have been used and was handled rather incompetently.

#2 - You guys are the most gullible bunch of individuals when it comes to taking legal advise from your lawyer. BTW, its OK to say no to him.

#3 - That you will most likely never tell your constituency that USAPA spent well into SIX figures litigating a frivolous lawsuit.

Way to go!!!
