Let's keep discussion of the potential merger or the deal falling apart here for now.

question is, what good would even come outu of this potential merger? I personelly dont see any thing good coming out of it

Best case scenario for employees of UA and LCC, generally, with a merger: it will suck.

It will suck worse for some than others, and you'll be arguing about it for years. Many of you will use manipulation, abuse and deceipt in a vain and foolish attempt to tip the scale in your favor.

Others will not and maintain their dignity. You'll be able to recognize those people as the ones that don't post on web boards.

Is it true that Parker and Tilton are meeting in San Francisco today?

With the California Supreme Court overturning the ban on Gay Marriages, then this may actually speak volumes!

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fitch Ratings has revised the Rating Outlook for UAL Corp. and its principal operating subsidiary United Airlines, Inc. (United) to Negative from Stable. Debt ratings for both entities have been affirmed as follows:

--Senior unsecured rating for United at 'CCC/RR6'.

The whippersnappers will finally get the Rotating Reserve they’ve been wishing for.

All of us US junior f/as will rotate right out the door to the unemployment line! Woo hoo! We will all find real jobs with a set schedule and we will hold "lines" every month! No more being tied to a cell phone on duty all day and all night and scheduled into our days off and no more late night transatlantic calls! Now who's crying because they have to sit straight reserve for the next 20 years? Oh, what's that about the rotating reserve? Now you think it's a good idea? Sorry, US membership will never go for that! Just ask Mike! I guess you'll have to work under two (or is it three) different contracts because we absolutely cannot have a rotating reserve for East f/as. That is just unthinkable and so unfair!

Well, the powers that be seem to think the merger will create savings of 1.5 billion per year. Whether that is true or not is debateable but that is the reason fo the merger. It has nothing to do with what one airline brings the other as far as international routes which is the angle everybody seems to be looking at.

For one, it will give UA a Southeastern Hub to compete in an area of the country where they have pretty much no presence as this time. Adding CLT will give UA an open door the that part of the country, that they could expand both domestically and Int't as well. As much as everyone loves to hate PHL, it makes money and has a huge O&D market. While I agree that US has very little to offer on the Int'l side, CLT, PHL, and the Shuttle along with the strong East Coast opearation that US has is worth someting. UA has been sniffing around US for a long time now, so they must have seen some value to putting the Airlines together or they wouldn't still be considering it.

While we do not necessarily have as many flights to certain European destinations (ie London, Paris etc) We actually serve more destinations.

so basically then clt would be a strong hold for a run up against DL's ATL hub that makes sense plus off S.America runs may be more and the carribbean

it's about capacity reduction, while maintain market presence. LCC brings real estate, aircraft orders cash and some additional staying power.
