The E190 is getting First Class valet closets.

The new ones will have them and they are going to retro fit the rest of the fleet.

Yeah!!

This has to be due to some fine print in the maintenance contract requiring that they remove a closet from every aircraft in the fleet, including those on which they weren't already installed.

I can't imagine them doing this for any other reason. 😀

I'm not going to complain about improvements to the fleet no matter how small. And this is an improvement.

I'd like to think they've had an epiphany where service for the First Class passenger is important.

Flybynite,

Dream on.....although it is a nice dream.

First class and other business travelers are a liability to the Sand Castle not an asset--or didn't you get the memo?

Although I will say it is interesting that they decided to put closets in--maybe the F/Y bulkheads aren't strong enough to hold coats on hangers...

I know, Art. I know.

I sometimes think they have to pretend it's their idea before it's acceptable.

The CBS we got called it "innovative and exciting". And gave "kudo's" to the engineering and maintenance teams.

But like I said....I'm not going to complain. I'm glad they went with it.

I was flying on Republic's spare 170 last week Ex Mid Atlantic plane as a substitute for a Shuttle Americ plane. While missing the first class as booked the plane was fine. To my surprise the FA asked me if he could hang my coat in a closet (a real surprise)

While flying for the DL flag it is amazing that this contract carrier has better service and amminities as a mainline like US and the beverages and snack baskets were free.

While I am sure it was 'standard; equipment, I don't remember Mid Atlantic EMB 170 having a coat closet.

The MidAtlantic E170s indeed had a closet and 72 seats instead of 76 because they were ordered by legacy US Airways. The closet was at the 1R door across from the galley, so it was deeper than the one that will be on the smaller L side. When Republic bought the aircraft they decided to use the closet for emergency equipment, not for passenger use.

The E190 is supposed to have another galley across from the one at 1R and a closet at 1L. Amateur West ordered them without the closet, G2 galley, and FC oven that other carriers have in G1 so they could stuff two extra FC seats in and have 99 total seats instead of the standard 97.

They must have finally realized a year in that it's not physically possible to cater 11 FC meals in a single half size cart, so they will probably stack catering items in the new closet instead of in the FC overhead bins and under passenger seats. Something big must have happened, it's surely not to make work easier for the crews or create a more civilized travel experience for the customer.

They are just putting something back on that was supposed to be there in the first place, but they tried to get away with not having. Usual story.
