Vol Furlough Info Out

Once again, the company has made a decision that is causing fragmentation in the F/A group---they must sit here and read this and laugh their butts off.
I am "jr" with only 11 years but can appreciate the MECs take on this...base specific WOULD have been a violation of seniority. period. Have you ever looked at the other side and thought that perhaps there are "jr" people who want to take the VF, don't need the insurance and are HAPPY that a lot of senior people may not take this ??? There are two sides to every coin and I don't think anyone should be upset with the MEC for upholding seniority....I am more upset that my LECP in PHL does not know that a decision for our base only is not fair or right for our group as a whole.

I think the MEC made the right decision.

Clearly, the company could have offered the same benefits on a system wide basis but chose not to. They instead wanted to see if we'd weaken our contract language. Carrot and stick.

The company has drug their feet for over 2 yrs on a joint contract and they think we should step away from our system seniority??? Outside contract negotiations?? No...I don't think so.

Just my opinion.

If the company wanted base specific, then they should have labeled it as an extended VPLOA. Then it being a base by base thing would have stayed true to the contract. For the longer term, the 8 month VF, they could have kept it to the previous contract language of VF. I do agree that more F/As would take this offer if it included benefits. I feel for my friends that are at risk of getting displaced to DCA, LGA and BOS. It is way too expensive to live there on our little salaries. The only bonus of getting displaced is if there were a block waiting for them there. Good Luck to everyone, and my opinion, the time off is a wonderful thing!

I don't see anyone taking a VSIP without monetary payout involved. Even $10,000 would have gotten some takers and they would be getting rid of F/As that make 4 times that much in a year. Instead, they will end up having to involuntary furlough f/as and pay furlough pay, so why not offer the money to someone who wants to go instead of someone who is forced out. Unbelievable! It again shows that Tempe is disconnected with the flight attendant group as a whole. They just don't know us.

I haven't read the letter, But what you're saying is that they sent a letter just asking "oh, please quit?" You can have flight benes for you and your family but you will NOT be eligible for even unemployment? I have NEVER heard of any corporation that asked people to leave and not offer a severance of any kind?

WTF? Can someone post the letter from Rick? It's on the Hub and I don't have Adobe ... can't afford it

My friend called with the details. She said that 20+ years of service they give you 2 years flight bene's for you and family members. 10-<20 gets 1 year flight bene's for you and family members. You are not able to get unemployment as you are leaving the company. All this with no cash in your pocket as an incentive. The worst one to date so far, as I am concerned at least.

If they wanted people to leave they would offer money per year of service. F/A's seniority is golden and they want to feel like they are getting something for all their years of service.

PHL88, the union was all for dental and medical, but the company would not agree unless the VF's were base specific (which is a seniority violation). Your MEC's didn't screw anyone...

News Flash! Ever hear of a SIDE Letter? We have 45 in our current contract! <_<

Are you F'ing kidding me? That is just what them MEC set out to do...lol you know better than that! Quit trying to stir the pot and let's see how many people put in for it first. Are you saying we should f over the Sr men/ladies for the rights of Jr guys/gals? Senority is how things are done period. If we start making exceptions now it will never stop!

How exactly is this f!@#ing over the Senior F/A's for the Junior? As far as I can tell the Senior F/A's are getting screwed as well since MANY have said they would be out like yesterday's trash if they COULD JUST GET MEDICAL! And here the company offered it, but AFA in their shortsighted and narrow viewpoint says "No, someone in a tiny base (LGA, BOS, DCA) that is not even affected by reductions this Fall might want a VF?" Bullsh!t!

I hope everyone is calling their Local Councils today and CLT in particular to voice their disgust. I've called already and no surprise that Ann wouldn't take my call. No surprise since she has clearly demonstrated during her tenure her concern only for Blockholders. Only this time, she has screwed them over as well. Great job.

Sometimes, you need to step away from the "this violates system seniority" mentality when being offered something BETTER than what exists in the contract. That's what side letters are for!

But what does my voice matter since I'm just a lowly reserve who is likely looking at an Involuntary Furlough or displacement now? I'll tell you what, I didn't want either one, but at this point I'd rather be furloughed than displaced.

I agree that the union did not clearly think this through. But even if CLT had voted with PHL and McCookie, there are still 3 small bases that would have the majority vote. But the reductions do not have anything to do with DC, LGA or BOS. They are only impacting Phl and Clt. That means that if no one wants to transfer to those bases, then our most junior f/a's will be forced to go to the 3 most expensive bases in our company. Medical would have been an incentive for those who are only holding out for medical benefits purposes that fly 40 hours a month to leave, if only for a short time. That is hardly enough to live on anyway, so medical would have been the key. I am disappointed, not for me, but for my friends that this will affect.

It could have been roll called by phl and one other base. Clt or dca. Shoulda woulda coulda

While I am a true advocate of seniority THIS clearly shows the old fashioned views of our union and elected officials. I understand upholding seniority BUT I also see the need to adapt to changes. Changes in fact that would benefit those senior that want to take a VF and those just RECALLED that want to stay. This system of shuffling around bases is BS and it causes the most junior person (if you wanna call them JUNIOR) agony and suffering. So someone senior from BOS wants to take the damn VF it could possibly bump the most JUNIOR person who doesn't LIVE in BOS to have to go there or bump someone from LGA to BOS. It's a BS process and we all know it. As PHLfa88 said, "there are like 45 side letters to our contract". This MOST CERTAINLY regardless of how anyone wants to twist it is a FLAT OUT possible sacrifice of a hard working junior f/a to give a more senior f/a a "little time off". I call BS! ! ! ! 🙄
