What's new

Any news on the LIS, ARN and MXP routes

You might hear about it, and even bid for it and finally work it, but news of it probably won't even make it onto Miss Mumbles US Daily!
I was told by a friend of a friend who said "Trust me it isn't a rumor ( usually a clue that its a damn lie/fabrication), that Miss Mumbles is being briefed on Geography 101.......she can't remember if those cities are suburbs of Phoenix or NEW chic' trendy stores @ the Scottsdale Galleria. Once she gets "informed" hang on for that PRESS RELEASE

I mentioned in the other now-closed thread:

Yes, US did try for PHL-MXP and was denied, but that was before the U.S. and Italy had open skies. Now, there are basically no restrictions on who can fly between the two countries. In fact, US Airways already holds broad U.S.-Italy authority and broad U.S.-Portugal authority. They don't have U.S.-Sweden authority yet, though there's an application pending, and I'm sure it would be fast-tracked should they want to use it; it's nothing more than a formality.

Well, US was today granted their U.S.-Sweden authority (along with some others), from an application that had been sitting on the DOT's desk for over 17 months! I doubt the timing of the approval was coincidental.

Hey 757's make profit for the likes of CO, on close European routes so I dont think they will fly them just to prove it does not work!
757 service likely for SNN,GLA,LIS. 767 for DUB, MXP, ARN. Also i reckon the 757 will be an all ecy service for this year anyway

I would expect the 757 on SNN/LIS/ARN, and the 767 for DUB/GLA/MXP. ARN isn't as far as you might think; CO sends a 752 there.

we know that already. now all we need is an announcement

Found on USAirways.com

US Airways nonstop flights to Dublin, Ireland operate daily from Philadelphia between May and October.

757s scheduled to start service May 28th..looks like SNN/DUB/GLA. The 767s will be on the new cities.

May 28th? But DUB, SNN , GLA resume around the 8th May. Dub makes big $$$ so i think they will keep the 767 and LIS will get the remaining 757, DUB/SNN may have the 757's for the Winter..

This info has not been updated in years, not until they announce the new routes maybe

Continental 757's on ARN have winglets, without them, there would be routine diverts. PHL is a little further and would be even worse. And PHL-ARN O & D traffic doesn't approach NYC-ARN traffic. Guaranteed money loser.

I seem to recall a recent thread that discussed USAirways getting winglet kits for the 757s. Does anyone have any update on this?

Where did you see this?

They do now, but CO didn't always have the winglets to use on the route. Whether the extra distance from PHL instead of EWR is too much, that could be possible, I don't know.

And the idea is that US will have SK feeding them at ARN, which CO doesn't have. (Not to mention that US at PHL has more feed than CO at EWR.)

They mentioned it in an "About US", don't have time to look up which one right now. Basically said it wasn't worth it for Hawaii, but might be worth it for Europe.

Where did you see this?

O & D pays the bills, feed rounds out the revenue. Look at DAL, great connecting traffic in CVG and ATL, but they went too far in filling aircraft with connectors. What you are seeing is a rationalization of hubs that rely too much on connections.

I was wondering if this DOT application was mainly to be used for code sharing with Star carriers. It would be great if it was US metal.

So they are going to fly 757's with 8 F to Europe?

Not a choice for me, I'm afraid.

On another note, if memory serves, aren't ATA 757's PW powered or am I mistaken?

Either way we need more larger airplanes. It would have been nice to see them pick up some 767's cheap.

Boeing Update January 21, 2006

ADDING 3 757's

As many of you have heard, the company has reached an
agreement to acquire three ex-ATA 757 aircraft. A very aggressive integration schedule will now need to be followed to allow introduction of these aircraft into ETOPS service in late-May for new European destinations. B757 Training ramps up very rapidly in the next few months.

This is from one of my sources. An internal memo.

Inside info. Apparently its a secret. What I told you is happening with long haul is happening. 1000 RJ's and 150 long haul airplanes. Note that we are ETOPSing a coast to coast jet that is NOT a widebody expecting our customers to fly us in a cramped enviornment for 6 to 8 hours. Will this work? Is it any different than flying a CRJ sewer pipe 3 or 4 hours? Do the customers really care? That is the million dollar question I guess.
