What's new

Any news on the LIS, ARN and MXP routes

apparently these 757's will be reffered to as heavies. due to the mtow. they were built that way specifically for "amtran" if i am not mistaken. amtran always uses the heavy call sign on their 757-200's and 300's. as in " amtran 123 heavy"

O & D pays the bills, feed rounds out the revenue. Look at DAL, great connecting traffic in CVG and ATL, but they went too far in filling aircraft with connectors. What you are seeing is a rationalization of hubs that rely too much on connections.

No, you're seeing them get rid of low-yielding connections. The high-yielding connections, they're more than glad to have as many of them as they can get.

I was wondering if this DOT application was mainly to be used for code sharing with Star carriers. It would be great if it was US metal.

That's certainly what the application was originally for, and what most of those countries will be used for. I'm just saying it doesn't appear to be coincidental that US was letting the application languish and suddenly got it approved, just when it looks like they'll be needing that Sweden authority.

So they are going to fly 757's with 8 F to Europe?

Not a choice for me, I'm afraid.

If they reconfigure them for Envoy, there will be no problem. CO has theirs that way, and does quite well.

If they configure them as-is, they'll just sell the flights as one-class, and give the F seats to US1s and full fare-Y. AA has theirs that way, and does quite well.

People want the nonstops. There are some people that complain about a narrowbody over the pond, but not enough to matter. You're always free to conx in Europe to a Star partner.

On another note, if memory serves, aren't ATA 757's PW powered or am I mistaken?

Either way we need more larger airplanes. It would have been nice to see them pick up some 767's cheap.
The former ATA birds are Rolls-Royce powered, definitely, just like US and HP birds are, too.

While I am a fan of a larger f/c cabin, even if they only had 8 seats up in f/c or Business as it will be called what does it matter? You only occupy one seat. As long as you get great service and a comfy ride it shouldn't matter if the a/c has two aisles or one. I can see why some would be po'd for the lack of upgrading. Upgrading on int'l is harder than on domestic anyway isn't it?

Why are they po'd over upgrades? I though they were
"complimenary upgrades". I must be misinformed. If they want a confirmed first class seat, they can use miles to upgrade or gracious me ....buy it.

I agree with the purchase of a FC seat. That's why I buy the high fare tickets--I don't want to sweat out the upgrade on certain flights.

Oh, and right now, we're PO'd about the upgrade policy, no rollover, the diminished FC product, diminished award availability.....hmmmmm, what else......

My point earlier was that if they are going to sell that crappy FC seat for an Envoy seat TA, that is terrible. If the seats are the same as domestic FC, they should be for complimentary upgrades for US1's and full Y-fares and not sold as J fares.

I hear you and I hope you have emailed Doug on this. Our VFF are very important to this airline and we do appreciate it. I guess because I work in REZ and I hear so many complaints about the lack of upgrades. Its the elite who buys the lowest fare avail and than ******s they didnt get the upgrade and swear to fly WN in the future. Newsflash, they dont have a first class cabin and no matter how bad it is its still better than coach. I know bonus miles have gone down but they are given as an incentive to get the upgrade when it is most important. As you know most of these decisions are revenue driven but I hope they dont drive off the revenue! If I have offended you let me apologize as I somtimes need to vent. Regards.

Hey Art, TZ (ATA) has RR powered 757's just like US/HP.

From what I understand, all 757s are supposed to be referred to as heavies, due to their propensity to create wake turbulence far beyond their size. Something to do with the wing design, I gather.

true. but no other airline that i know of in the united states uses the heavy call sign for the 757-200 except for ATA. unless someone knows of another. i do not know if continental or northwest use the heavy call sign for the 757-300's

Anyone who pays full freight for the current Envoy product has more money than brains.

The discounted J tix aren't terribly bad, but $5K for what they now call J class is insane when you can get lots more for your $$$ on other carriers. The problem is, US misrepresents the product they are offering. A J seat on US is not the same as J on LH or UA. And, an F seat domestically is not what it is on UA. But, US still sells it at the same price.

I just booked UA PHL-DFW in FC for the same price as US. I get a good meal to ORD, a good meal to DFW and the same on the way back. I'm really looking forward to my transcon next month on UA.

ATC makes all 757s use the heavy call sign as they generate a bigger wake turbulence.
