Side letter for what? Are they going to try to screw the furloughees?

I got a rushed call from Palm Springs and I'm trying to call others I know to get more info. They are wrapping things up but no....NO ONE is going to get screwed out of senority. DOH prevails.....take a deep breath and let just wait for the nitty gritty.

Thanks for the news! I guess they realized they weren't going to get anywhere near the votes they needed for this one and just gave up, at least for now... the "tabled" lable has me a bit concerned about what they may try in the future with respect to other mergers. But I still don't think they will ever get the votes. UAL won't go for it and with out UAL and LCC, there's no way they can get the votes even if every other carrier group agrees.

Nonetheless, it is good to have this behind us finally.

AFA BOD Update - Agenda Item #3

News from the BOD

The members in committee reconvened last night after the BOD recessed for the evening. This was to further discuss Agenda #3 and to send a "FOR" or "AGAINST" vote to the floor of the BOD today. At approximately 8pm local (11pm EST) last night the committee voted 9 to 1 AGAINST Agenda #3 and recommended a "NO" vote to the floor of the BOD today.
The agenda item was presented to the floor around 3pm local time today and a motion was made to table this agenda item (tabling an agenda item means that once the BOD meeting is adjourned today, the Agenda Item # 3 can not be brought forward and is closed). DATE OF HIRE will prevail in the merger of our seniority lists.

After the tabling of the agenda item, the America West MEC introduced a letter of agreement between the AMW MEC and the USA MEC which clearly reaffirms the commitment to DATE OF HIRE as contained in the AFA constitution and bylaws. This letter also stipulates that the Company (USA & USA/AMW) remain uninvolved in the Seniority Integration Process.

MECP Mike Flores shows a PowerPoint presentation on "Date of Hire - A Tradition" to the Committee

We will be following the section of the C&B policy that governs the merger of seniority lists, which is DATE OF HIRE, and collective bargaining agreements between the two merged carriers.

We wish to thank all of the flight attendants that sent letters to the Board of Directors. The emails and letters helped the Board understand how strong we felt about date of hire in ours or any merger of AFA carriers.

Thank you again for all of your support.

I fuess the fact that it has been "tabled" means the DOH issue has not had the vote results counted yet from what i understand.

Once an item is "tabled" and the AFA meeting adjourns, the motion is done with FOR GOOD!!

Great news that this issue is over. Regardless of the outcome, it's time to move forward look forward and get these lists integrated and move on to an integrated contract.

I would like to extend an additional THANK YOU to UAL ALASKA and ALL the other airlines from the BOD that vote FOR DOH.. We a ppreciate your understanding of our in place constitution and by-laws and to stick by them. THANK YOU!!!

And a bigger thank you to the US West (AWA) passing the resolution that involved management staying OUT of the business of what is UNION business. I will get over it but I highly RESENT management, regardless of US West OR East trying to undermine the AFA. ALL US Airways f/a's, especially US West should be royally pissed off at this interference and should condemn this thru letter writing as opposed to some hailing him as a hero. SHAME ON THAT MANAGER!! SHAME!! I HOPE HE SEES THIS!!

I can only hope this undermining is not an omen for things to come. :(

The next step is working on an integrated contract. Let's hope AFA can put any differences behind them and work together for the sake of our new, larger, fantastic flight attendant group!

Now that that's settled, will they discuss the possibility of US furloughees going to the HP side until recall? Alot of people are considering this but it depends on how pay and longevity accrual are handled. After the "MidAtlantic" fiasco, no one needs to be working the line and not getting credit for it.

In other news from the BOD meeting, they are trying to get the 170 Division contract printed. A little bit like naming a child after you put it up for adoption, but the AFA and the company are obviously trying to cover themselves from the independent lawsuit, and throw in some F/A-unfriendly scope and successorship language. I don't see any benefit for the membership at this point, but perhaps the AFA hopes they can get better language in it? Who knows

When do they start negotiating a new contract to cover east and west and when does it go into effect? At integration or earlier?
