Why was this 762 (FCO-CLT) doing in Bangor Me. yesterday or Saturday ?
It obviously diverted but I have no idea why. Fuel stop would be my first guess.

Right Jim, I foolishly forgot about the winter headwinds coming westbound.
As a former "skipper"(You), a question. Do you think the capt. ultimately chose BGR for fuel as opposed to (say) Goose bay or Gander because (perhaps) he knew he'd have enough GAS to get to either canadian stops, but wanted to see if he "might" have had enough Gas going over BGR, to make CLT ?

Yes, Jim. Weigh in on the issue with your considerable transatlantic "skipper" experience.
Well, it didn't long for this thread to go negative, did it? Folks, it's a new year' let's try to be nice. At least for a while?
While I'm sure NYC knows all the details, it could have been an enroute re-release (originally released to BGR with the provision that if X amount of fuel was left a a certain point they press on to CLT), the flight could have been originally released to BGR from FCO (dispatch knew up front that they wouldn't be able to make CLT), or if fuel burn was higher than anticipated (due to higher headwinds or lower cruising altitude for ride) a decision to divert could have been made enroute (coordinated with dispatch). Or it could have been due to something different but since the same flight diverted to BGR Sunday and an AA 757 trans-Atlantic flight also diverted to BGR fuel is the likely culprit.
Jim
Consider the source. Does it really surprise you?
What's so mysterious about making a fuel stop? Is there a secret section of the FOM that only trans-Atlantic "skippers" get? Do they give you the secret handshake in over water training or something?![]()
Jim
An International flight for NYC is a bus trip or PATH to Hoboken, NJ.What's so mysterious about making a fuel stop? Is there a secret section of the FOM that only trans-Atlantic "skippers" get? Do they give you the secret handshake in over water training or something?![]()
