What's new

Back To The New Uniform Thing.

We have a few F/A's that have fun on the P.A. One notorious always "B" F/A is named Richard and announces the first names of the crew and then add "...and I am Dick in the rear..." LOL

OMG, I think he was on 2 of my flights in the past year. Did he have long hair and then shave it. If he is the same person...he is hysterical--but then again, humor only minimizes and demeans the F/A position.

😉

Have you ever flown with a USX MESA F/A? Now they demean the F/A profession.

Cheesy?.....that isnt the half of it. I can see it now, the "intimidation factor" of having YOUR NAME on yourself so they can USE IT in a threating way TO BLAME YOU for...

......SIR or even, hey YOU......works for me.

Airport customer service staff have to wear name tags -along with having SIDA badges visible - why shouldn't F/As?
On the name tags: if we have to wear the bloody things, at least give us an illusion of professionalism by giving the option of using "J Smith" rather than "John S." The first name thing makes the person feel like a fast food employee. (Of course, in a "Mainline Distress location the pay does that too!) 🙄

BTW there is standup comic who has some lines about if you are older than 30 and have
to wear name tag on the job, you've probably made some mistakes in your life. (Sigh)

Once we are actually on the plane AND passengers are boarding, deplaning or on the plane we are told to not display our badges because we are not in a secure area requiring our badges. When passengers are not on the plane and the jetway door is closed we are wearing our badges because we are now in a restricted area. Does that make sense?

That is your perception and different people have different perception. Besides ....what is wrong with fast food employees and airport agents? Humble yourself and don't stick your nose up in the air. We are not high above others that you have to perceive them as second class citizens. They are human beings too.

I understand that some pax are relentless on some flights. However, that is what happens when you are in the customer service business. Unfortunately, it's part of the job. And, I'm not saying you are one of them, but when people want to hide their badge, it's usually because they aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing and they know it.

Sky high states: I understand your comments, US1. But, I think SOME passengers will use "NAMES" to manipulate the situation. Confrontations involve "control" to many passengers. I cant tell you how many bizarre situations I deal with monthly. And alot of the times, I can only apologize. And, unfortunately, that's NOT good enough for some. They, somehow think because I could NOT resolve their situation the way they wanted, I DIDNT DO MY JOB.
And, YOU and I know how much authority F/A's have. And RULES and REGULATIONS we have to enforce.

No the "Richard aka Dick" I am referring to is always impeccably coiffed; he's not into the mullett look if you get my drift. As for humor degrading the profession, could not disagree more. The funniest things happen when f/as are trying to be serious. 😛

From what I understand management has been send a "letter of caution or warning" about the names on the wings issue. This is not the West coast and these PAX on the East coast WILL hunt you down. I don't display anything with my name on it. They don't get 2 creamers for coffee and they WILL show up at your hotel. Crazy times....we must all be careful.

At the first airline I worked for a friend of mine had the nerve top make someone check thier bag or something equally offensive. He asked for her name (shouted at her and pointed in her face reallly). She gave him his employee number. On the way out he asked a ramper what that F/As name was. The ramper assumed it was a non-rev or something and asked the pilots, who told him. They didn't know what was going on.

Don't you know that psycho called her at home at 11pm the next night? This was a 22 year old girl who lived by herself. We had to change her phone number, and she had to worry every time she got home late at night because this creep had her name and probably address. If you think you can't find this stuff, put your name in one of the bigger people search engines on the net, you'd be shocked.

I'm not putting down any customer service positions, but they are not locked in a metal tube with hundreds of people at 35000 feet. If a terrorist or hostage situation arises, you would likely wish your name wasn't plastered across your chest. Personal information gives people power. They use it as intimidation to try and take control of situations.

I can talk until I'm blue in the face, but I don't think I'm going to explain to a bunch of men who likely well behaved airline passengers how scary the idea of this is for a woman.

Common.....I usually agree with your posts BUT....how would you like to stand on the aircraft when the crap hits the fan? When the a/c is out of balance maybe or a scheduling issue or whatever it is you do.....
you come on the aircraft with your name tag. Then call it "drama over a name tag." Seems like the Flight Attendants are always the ones locked up with the passengers and getting the brunt of the decisions that effect them.

Light Years' reasoning here is what I had in mind when making my post above, against the requirement for FA's to have name tags.

I'm still waiting to hear about the new uniforms.

It would be nice if the company asked for our opinions on the subject. With all the technology it wouldn't be a big deal to put this info. on The Hub or AWA Compass and let us vote. We could even settle the whole name on the wings thing. 🙂

I'll tell you what......I will trade places with you any day. Why don't you stand in a boarding lounge with 120 people on a delayed flight, with misconnects and no protection. Or a canceled flight, with 120 customer that are really upset and have the crew walk by smiling and high fiving because they get to deadhead home. Stand at the gate or ticket counter and listen to what happens.....and here we are.....ID's with full names hanging in the wind for everyone to see. 12 years on the gates and counters and I have been screamed at plenty. Had my name taken many times but frustrated travelers that didn't appreciate the fact that I could not perform miracles and get them home that day. It is all a part of being in a customer service position. The situation is no different if you are a Flight Attendant, Pilot, Gate Agent or if you work a counter at Burger King.

Like I couldn't figure out your name by the jumpseat chit chat, or when the other F/A says "Becky, could you get me some more ice"
