Cheesy beyond belief. Barf.

Can we at least vote on these things? They've already taken away everything else, they should at least ask for input on what will be worn.

Cheesy?.....that isnt the half of it. I can see it now, the "intimidation factor" of having YOUR NAME on yourself so they can USE IT in a threating way TO BLAME YOU for...

....the delay
....no food, shortage of food, choice of food
....middle seat, seat mate
....lack of legroom
....lack of overhead space (right above them)

......SIR or even, hey YOU......works for me.

I understand that some pax are relentless on some flights. However, that is what happens when you are in the customer service business. Unfortunately, it's part of the job. And, I'm not saying you are one of them, but when people want to hide their badge, it's usually because they aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing and they know it. In any case, in the case of a F/A, it is very easy to allow Consumer Affairs to find out who you are. but you see, it is the not F/A's that have given me problems in the past. It's the ticket and gate agents, particularly in PHL. As a customer, I get very annoyed when employees have their badges turned upside down so that you cannot get their name. They have my name. I had a ticket agent tell me recently, "I was not rude and I am not giving you my name"....well, guess what, she was rude and she was wrong. And from now on, when a rude employee won't give me their name, I'll just use the camera on my phone to show the supervisor. If my clients asks to speak to my boss, whether I am right or wrong, they are given his name and number. I am responsible for my actions.

I agree wholeheartedly with US1 in his statement that employees need to be responsible for their actions and/or comments. We are in a customer service business and being rude, disrespectful and having no regard for our customers, co-workers and the smooth operation of the airline has no place in the workplace. Trust me I have no use for ignorant, rude inflammatory behavior.........if people would THINK before they ACT, any situation can be resolved. As far as name tags/badges ALL that needs to be emblazened is FIRST NAME ONLY- as a security precaution (certainly Flight Crews being on the road) this is all that needs to be given.

If you have a "complaint" about a flight attendant you have the flight number and they will tell you what position they were. If not consumer affairs can figure out who you are talking about.

You have NO reason whatsoever to know a crewmember's name and they most certainly do not have to give it to you. Flight attendants are one of the most stalked professions. You don't need to know thier names. I've seen F/As give thier employee number for compliments instead of thier name.

On transatlantic you are given a name bar that you can put whatever you like on (obviously it has to be appropriate, you can't put Crack Ho on it or anything). The company can't make you display your name to a passenger. And you are not supposed to have your ID displayed while inflight. If they do cheesy namey wings, most will either not wear wings or wear the old ones. Why do they do this stupid stuff?

Your crew are not geishas, restaurant servers, or fortune tellers. You have no need to be on a name basis with them.

I think we're spending to much time worrying about the style of uniform. We really should worry about how our fellow FA's wear it. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We could put half the FA's in custom Brioni and they'd still look beat down. I have had several jobs in my day that required uniforms be worn. No matter how awful they were mine always looked good. So it's not just what we wear but how we wear it. I think dry cleaning should be MANDATORY (the company should cover the cost). I think Tie or no Tie, Tab or no Tab if we hold everyone accountable things could look better.

You know, I don't know if US/East announces it, and I can't believe as much as I fly that I don't know this--I probably don't pay attention, but on US/West, they announce the name of everyone who is working the flight. I can understand that a F/A wouldn't want to give out their last name--totally understand that. You should have no problem giving your employee number--maybe that's what your wings should say  i have had gate agents and ticket agents actually say, i'm not giving you my employee number. that's b/s. Why do you always fall back to the position that we think you are geishas, waiters, etc. and that displaying your name degrades the position you hold--you are in a customer service business and I know few people in customer service who do not at least tell you their first name.

if we hold everyone accountable things could look better.
accountability, that is what it is all about--once everyone feels accountable, you have a chance at being successful

Well they better stop that nonsense of announcing names when they integrate. US East certainly does not do this and I've seen pilots get thier heads bit off for it ( I was on one flight where the F/O took it upon himself to announce the fact that one of the F/As was pregnant! He meant well but she could have killed him).

I've seen them do it on the US commuters though... "Jennifer, please be seated." "Bob, take your seat." How humiliating! I'd be mortified. 😱

This is not Burger King where you tell someone "I'd like your name, where's your manager!" Not to be a SkyNazi, but they are in charge of you on that flight and are a working flight crew. If you have a need to comment on them, consumer affairs will review it and send it on only if it may have compromised safety or is really serious. Most complaints don't make it very far.

Not to mention the multitude of security reasons why a passenger should not have a crewmembers name. These things should be obvious, but most people don't even think that way. They look at F/As the same way they do wait staff, and the airlines don't help this perception.

There are customer service aspects to the job, but let's face it. No one pays for any type of service and these are people with alot of safety and security related duties that get paid NOTHING. And you want to know thier names? For what? "Dear US Airways, Sheila is a big ####, she made me bring my seatback up. " "Dear US Airways, Gate Agent Gayle who makes $7 in Philadelphia is so rude, she didn't smile at me. P.S. I paid $114 to fly across the country."

I had many complimentary letters in my file at US. I was US Airways Flight Attendant, on flight so and so from wherever to wherever... the compliment is for the company and it's F/A group. Personal information has no place in it.
