Can we get an update from the in-flight service FOCUS group/Task Force

Well airportman, as I stated, doing the can would be a good IDEA, as doing the first service as push/pull and recycling the cans. FYI it is policy for West to do the can on the initial service. On a longhaul the pax like that and besides that party cup almost takes the full can anyway. Also you do not have to lay this soley on the f/a's as alot of it is catering as well! and fyi I DO NOT do self serve water as it's unsanitary to put that stuff on top of the trashcan and turn the caps. I swear this place is hopeless, from inept management, to kool-aid drinkers, to the people who absolutely REFUSE to meet somewhere in the middle and do something worth while.

I really wish someone with brains and respect would buy this place, the first thing would be to implement certain policies that make sense and tell everyone that it WILL be done this way with no discussion. LIKE A REAL AIRLINE. Honestly, I think the cold-war era soviet union was less stubborn.

BTW, I think CO has the ice on top as well as of their condiments, a pretty nice little contraption they have on top of the car, and it looks nice.

Ok it's not about resistance but more so plain ridiculous. What other airline that uses carts similar to ours has that huge freakin tub of ice on top of their cart with a huge wet bag in it? It's tacky looking no matter how you make it work. The current cart packout and setup was a "last ditch" attempt. It's a joke. You can fly ANY major airline or low cost carrier that uses carts and it doesn't look like THAT. It's Bojangles at it's best. You have NO room to work or even set a damn cup. You look like your pulling your donkey loaded with goods to sell to the villagers. It's tasteless. PERIOD. Not shocking though as it fits well with all of the other changes. I can count on ONE hand how many crews out east do that setup. I go with the flow but it's just not gonna happen.
  omg Debbie you are too funny. Bojangles, pulling a Donkey. hahaha. how about the apron pockets stuffed full of pretzels (oh sorry TIDBITS   )looking like your ready to give birth. Oh the tragedy!!

🙄 I just flew with an observation rider that is also on the focus group and this is what I was told:

-The focus group decided on a cart setup that did not have ice on top  ( I think the ice on top thing was just a stupid east/west fight) In my opinion, the ice on top was not a big deal, I think the East FA's were just not willing to change, just my opinion!!

-The carts are supposed to packed different soon
-Focus group has not met since November, or something like that

-They are meeting in CLT later this month (can't remember the days)

-Service for both east and west are supposed to be looked at my 20 different FA's and one service flow will be decided by these FA's.

I think the focus group is ok as long as they don't just drink kool aid and allow management to control them, some of those management people have a way of doing that. My best friend is on the focus group also but she only went to one meeting and i think she said she'll go this time too

Well I for one do not mind the ice on top and didn't notice until someone brought it to my attention that the blue tub is kind of dirty looking and sometimes they just throw in bags of ice with no liners. If they could find a way to have ice on top along with the pretzels, cups and condiments and have room to work that would be ideal. I think having the ice on top seems to go smoother for me because after doing so realize that when its in the drawer there never seems to be enough and it slows me down too much. It does help that the East AB have chillers and there is not a need to overload the cup with ice since the soft drinks are already chilled. Whatever they come up with I just hope it is designed with common sense and that they looked at the other airlines to kind of get an idea. For the record, serving food and offering only coffee and water to drink is not what I consider common sense.

FYI THE CAN IS NOT POLICY EAST OR WEST. ITS NOT ABOUT YOUR PERCEPTION OF WHAT THE PAX LIKES. ITS ABOUT POLICY AND DOING THE JOB WE ARE HIRED FOR. ITS F/A'S LIKE YOURSELF THAT SEE YOURSELF AS DOING SOMETHING GOOD WHEN IN REALITY YOUR MAKING EVEYONE THAT DOES THE JOB IT IS TO BE DONE LOOK BAD.

ALL F/A'S NEED TO READ THE POLICY AND PROCEEDURE AND FOLLOW IT PERIOD.

UNTIL YOU OWN THE COMPANY YOU CANNOT DICTATE POLICY.

 Serving a can when you have a Buy On Board Snack IS POLICY on the West. I think you should look it up

Please refrain from posting in all caps. It's considered bad netiquette, and it is considered shouting.

On the west when we have BOB... our initial service is with a can. Then we water the people then we serve them in a glass on the last service. That has been our policy for years. But wait we can't look that up in our manual anymore because SS took all the useful stuff out.

I think he meant to shout. But you're right...bad manors. The use of emoticons is more effective.

"AND ANOTHER THING........AFET BUY ON BOARD IS COFFEE SERVICE WHY DO F/A DECIDE TO MAKE IT HARD. ITS NOT A COFFE AND WATER SERVICE."

The P&P is a mess and hopefully they will be cleaning it up soon.

Following the charts a coffee/tea service is performed after B.O.B. from the top of a cart. How is adding water making this service any harder on anybody and actually more people take the water vs. the coffee/tea. There is a small paragraph that talks about doing a coffee/water service after B.O.B. but it is located in a rather strange spot and not on the flow chart.

Anyway, according to Ask Inflight - a coffee/water service is to be performed if any type of B.O.B. is served. Shoot them an e-mail with any questions you have and they will get back to you. The department has been revamped and has a dedicated staff now allowing you to have a back-and-forth conversation with the same person.

Fyi MOUTH the can IS policy on the West when doing Buy on Board and I'm not saying it's about what the pax likes but I will tell you that passenger comfort IS one of the things I was hired for. And don't even tell me "It's f/a's like yourself that makes the proper job look bad" please!!!!! Just so you know "airportman" I do my job damn good and 95% policy, the other 5% being situational awareness (another reason I was hired after good looks and brains)!!!!!!! I've actually had the honor of having other positions in the company besides line flight attendant and I didn't get there by preaching to people when I didn't know what the #e!! I was talking about. What I said in the earlier posts is what my "idea" of nice longhaul coach service would be. Geez with all the know how between you and Jettsetter we're really screwed.

Also this is a publicly traded company and the "owners" don't dictate inflight policies and procedures!!!!!

Here are a few photos of a West cart set up that has worked. The old coffee pots have been replaced now with the lids on the pot themselves. There is plenty of workspace with the ice on top. The ice is opened in a fully lined blue tub.

Those who are resistance to this set up mainly has been they say the ice tub will fall off....in 20years it has NEVER fallen off.

Funny, the reasons I hear are: The bin is dirty and disgusting and it looks tacky.

Myself, I knock the cups over more if they are not in a atlas tray. Yup, I am a clutz. I also find that I am touching the cups more for whatever reason with the ice on top. Either my arm or hands are brushing against them when getting ice. I have done it both ways. I like the ice in the drawer better. Myself I don't see what the big deal is with the cart setups. As long as the FAs provide a smooth professional service and the cart is left in the proper setup for catering at the end of the flight, then what is the problem?

Either way, top of cart or drawer doesn't matter to me. I am pretty much a clutz anyway you set it up. I just wish they would give a final answer on it already.
