CWA/Teamster labor thread -

A scam on our hard earned money. What can we do to reverse this? Janitor, any legal advise would be great. Wouldn't know how to fix without decertifying our present contract. Is there a way out of this?

Enough is Enough! The irony of it all is that for years, and I mean years we have told the CWA how truly bad VH is but all it gets her is promotions. Everyone knows the VH saga including those to whom she reports and they don't care. Management adores her ...ahem...wake up call number 1 and the Union, all of the employees want her banished. Would a petition work? How many signatures would it take and will Cohen finally do the right thing for the employees? Need procedures of how to get started.

No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

On another topic... Has anyone heard anything from the CWA or Teamsters about opting out of the TSA's Radioactive Nude-O-Scope machines and the invasive pat downs like many other airline unions have? It's becoming a hot topic in our break rooms here in PHX. Consenses is that no wants to get radiated by the machines and that even the groping pat downs are better than radiation and letting the TSA see you naked.

a sweetheart contract is generally considered a contract where the union refuses to allow its membership to vote, such as the case with the 'front union'. The IAM membership voted on their contract so it was not a sweetheart. The IAM has a secure defined pension with a payout of $80 month x number of years. The 'front union' and every other union on the property chose not to secure a defined benefit pension.
How about a vote on the same contract twice because the union(IAM) and the company didn’t like the results

Fleet Service at US have a pension, can you say the same about CS?
Company contribution to 401k and profit sharing or an IAM multiplier with years of service starting in 2005? along with retirees unable to work in the industry to collect. Both plans have mix results

You have not voted on any contract since you got the 'front union'.
I know 26+ outsourced ramp stations with no recall that can’t vote on a contract

just a little add on for you good luck in the votes you better focus on that http://calfleetserviceteamsters.com/sites/calfleetserviceteamsters.com/files/CAL-UAL_ComparisonChart_11.12.10.pdf

I guess that the CWA uses the same method for promotionas the compnay does for managers . It's called the FUMU method.

voluntarily recognizing this front union because the front union promised a ready made sweetheart contract delivered to US AIRWAYS within 30 days after the voluntary recognition.
The Janitor
I guess the local presidents agreeing on an interim transition agreement with out a vote is controversial. A vote should have been taking…. Any time wages work rules and benefits are change a vote should take place.
Definitely the change in work rule allowing management to do agent work should have been voted on
