DISPLACEMENTS FROM PITTSBURGH

IM TELLING YOU THAT NO THEY DID NOT THREATEN TO PULL THE HUB.

IT WAS TOM FORESTERS' PET PROJECT.

YOU ARE W-R-O-N-G

Move on.......Just saw ya commuting to phl......really moved on from that overpriced apt on mt washington......gee whats moms friend at United telling yunz now the PIT hub is back????? lol

You are wrong on fact. It was only Tom's project because he did not want to be the one to preside over the loss of that many jobs.

US threatened to pull the hub. It was in the papers. I work for the folks who allow the lights to go on (among other things) in the existing terminal, and I say definitively that it was a similar brand of crap to the bankruptcy act of yanking the hub.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: US needs western Pennsylvania a whole hell of a lot more than WestPA needs US. And what's funny about all of this is that the only way Doug Parker and friends are going to get help in PHL is "cash and carry."

In fact, it's the only way they'll get any airport help anywhere but CLT. And even that is going to come to a head when (not if) SWA goes to enter the CLT market.

As an aside, if US does continue to downsize PIT to the point where they only have real metal to the hubs and RJs everywhere else, they'll lose the remaining stranglehold on that traffic--given a choice between LCC and anyone else, the VFF will go with anyone else. The U product has fallen to the point where it's no longer worth connecting for (much less connecting in an RJ).

And the best part is that if US should collapse again (and make no mistake, if it does the lights go out), PIT will already be positioned to move forward. CLT and PHL (and to a lesser extent, PHX) will take one in the chops.

Interesting...but didn't I read recently that the city and county leaders of Pittsburgh were flying out to PHX to meet with USAirways and convince them to add more flights there?

Amusing that there are only about 400 flight attendants in PIT, but the call distribution system places them first on every menu.

As bad as it is to say this, I can't help but hear that bitchy PIT flight attendant telling me I should get over the closing of my base (SYR) back in 1990. Karma.

The center of the universe has been humbled. And while I don't celebrate what has happened there and what it's done to lots of hard working people, it does sort of even the score. The powers that be in PIT treated those of us in the Piedmont system like crap. BWI, SYR, DAY, MIA, GSO, INT...RIP

Unless Big Ben delivers the notice I highly doubt any of the 'Burghers will divert their attention from Super XL Week........those people LOVE the Steelers and nothing will faze them Company wise until the last touchdown is scored The Bus is carried off in his throne, the last terrible towel waved and the last burp/fart deployed

Yikes, I read "Big Ben" and the first person I thought of was Baldanza.

I need to get out more.

The center of the universe has been humbled.

No, it just moved to Arizona, haven't you heard?

Does anyone know if a displaced F/A from PIT is allowed to displace a jr f/a in another base.... or are the people displaced from PIT only allowed to go to the bases that have openings? Anyone know what the contract dictates.... PIT is not closing as a base.. so are they able to bump???
just curious

hmm...seems your wrong again......IT WAS TOMS PET PROJECT....i knew him personally, as well as say a son knows a father........he had to convince Mr. C to want a new terminal, after that point it was built to Alleghenys airlines specifications.

You can go into any base.........but the company will determine if a more junior f/a gets bumped....or the base just absorbs the f/a's like last time.

Just Curious where were you during the last round of displacements? Or was it oh well its not me?

during the last round of displacements I took a VFRL. By the time I came back... 1 yr.. I was called back to my original base.

Yes, under section 18 "Filling of Vacancies" it states and I quote:
"when a flight attendant is displaced at his/her domicile for any reason, he/she shall be permitted to displace the most junior flight attendant at the DOMICILE OF HIS/HER CHOICE, provided he/she has greater system seniority than such flight attendant.
page 18-1, line 20, letter D.

That's not what the current ACAA members, the original ACAA members (At the time), nor the folks who actually built the thing (of which my employer had a large chunk) say, or said, for that matter.

The only part you got right was "built to Alleghenys" specifications.

It totally amazes me that people are so ignorant that they don't know their own contract. People bit@# that they haven't received a revised contract, yet nobody reads or uses the old one. Come on people...that is why the company gets away with crap. Get informed and know your contract.

simply put......

YOU ARE WRONG WRONG WRONG..........

Can we get this back on the original topic please. This is about crew displacements in PIT, and not about who was/was not involved in the planning/building/maintaining of PIT.

Thanks

🙄 🙄 🙄 Thank you! So, are they displacing, closing or WHat?

I knew this topic would boomerrang all over the issues....TYPICAL! Problem is the Company is GROSSLY overstaffed in the EAST considering the amount of available flying. Displacing OUT of PIT is not the answer....Where in the hell are the people going to go? Sure a displaced worker gets to "Pick their poison (BASE)" but the end result will still be an imbalanced pool of employees that are NOT where they need to be....no one really wants LGA/BOS/DCA unless you live there (way too expensive). There are way too many bases in the EAST considering the amount of avail flying and the # of a/c in the fleet. Displacing out of PIT is really not the issue here, many people believe it is more about REDUCING HEADCOUNT!

Astro you are so right. If many come to PHL which I'm betting they will due to the proximity it will only get worse. You have all the reserves sitting as it is. Add more flight attendants to the base without adding more flying to that particular base equals sitting and more sitting. Give the senior people a "True" package to leave. There are still some out there that would want to leave but feel it's just not a financially sound decision for them. The company is going to have to do something sooner or later about the issues at hand. Not enough trips to go around and many flight attendants sitting. If layoffs have to happen then let it happen. I hate to say that but something has to be done to even the system out. Moving people from base to base is not the answer.
