What's new

FA Sick numbers

Nothing has ever worked. Not in the 10 years I have been doing this.

I have been in scheduling for nearly 10 years and there has not been a year yet where the sick list has not doubled in 2 weeks. A certain percentage will call in sick regardless. They feel they are entitled to be off. They called in sick after the 'good' contract. hey called in sick when profit sharing was being handed out. They have called in sick every single year I have been there and they will continue to do so until action is taken. Every year it is a new excuse .. no holiday pay, no this, no that... blah blah blah.
Is there any indication or info, other than FA gossip. That one airline or another has fixed or solved holiday sick call problem?

How goes it this year? You have enough reserves? They used to let us pull up the sick list with the SOD code and then they banned us from it. Guess they wanted to ban all of our fun checking the numbers out.

I've been off for awhile and I won't be going back to work until, probably, the last week of January. I might decide to pick up a trip for some extra cash. I managed to turn my vacation into a 43 day stretch and I might just ride it out and relax. It's going to be fun not having to deal with winter ATC holds and storms. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do. I guess I have no excuse left not to go to the gym everyday. <_<

It seems that at LGA they have plenty of reserves. AVBLs can't get enought flying, 90+ of the new recalls checked in at LGA on December 18th. Lots of f/as reporting being released both reserves and AVBLs.

If you all consider threating letters, loading up the reserve list with obscene numbers and let them hang out till the 23rd or so, fly em, and walk away without any cancellations due to crew shortages, just some under staffing, success.. then The Holiday Plan has been a success....

My hats off to Doug Brown and Lauri Curtis !!!!

I have not heard anything about other airlines one way or the other. Given that it is human nature to take advantage when one can, I doubt it is different for the majority of airlines or companies over all.

Doug Brown and Laurie Curtis had not thing to do with this as far as I am aware.

L1011,
AVBL's will never get enough flying if the sick list clears at 1600 and AVBL's must be plotted by 1400. That's why AVBL is such a waste an we would like to see it go the way of that Vol Speaker joke of a program that we used to have.

Since I often bid my wife's lines when she is on AVBL, I tend to agree. Seems like there ought to be a way to make more of those trips available to AVBLs. Since we live close nice turns are just fine with her with a couple of 2 days thrown in. It worked very well after we got the hang of the rules. Appreciate hearing from you because it gives me a better understanding what you do and how it works.

We have been asking for the sick list to be cleared early for years now. The union does not want to do it. Perhaps as Jim has said to protect the senior people and allow them to get what they want. Who knows. Seems grossly unfair to the folks on AVBL and others but what ever.

If the company dos not want play fight for it I have given up fighting it as well. I come to work, do my job and go home.

Again....Thank you GF for an honest response.....Lets remind everyone on the "AA" board that this airline has never seen a real "scenairo"...These are the same F/A's (girls & Boys ) who have never seen this airline indusrty do what it "IS DOING" right now...I have always said...What goes around comes around and have never changed my mind..What you get is what you want? Hey MIAAMI and FAMIKEY? How's that Florida sand these days?

Best way to survive relatively stress free...

Garf-

"Doug Brown and Laurie Curtis had not thing to do with this as far as I am aware."

...I and 17,000 other F/A have a letter that states otherwise..

If DB and LC did have anything to do with it than oh well. The only thing they have done is take out a huge Band aide called (reserve) and patched it onto the end of the month. It will not solve the problem. In my mind I do not think there is a solution to the problem at all. Those who want to be off on the Holidays will be off.

Can anyone here on the contract negotiating team of AA and the APFA actually shed some light on why the Union will not allow the sk list to open prior to 1600. To me it seems like a win win no cost item that would help both sides.

But i am not behind those closed doors with the amazing minds of the APFA and AA Management teams

The only thing that really worked at TWA was a perect attendant bonus program. It was funded by the actual savings generated from a greatly reduced headcount need. There were points assigned to the various holidays, (for us Halloween was a big off duty, go figure), and points for every month with no lost time. IODs and Deaths(family not f/a) were exempt. The bonus was paid in May. I believe the hightest I received was $1500.

Things will change when the Company doesn't put a price on no cost or cost neutral contract items. Especially in light of the concessionary agreements, quality of life enhancaments are a way of restoring "loyalty". Likewise, the union knows there are areas of the contract that need to be "tightened up" which COULD benefit both the f/as and the company. We'll soon see how prepared BOTH sides are for this next round of negotiations.

this is not just a Company thing. The company should not jus expect the union to say yes to everything

and the Union should not expect the company to give up just anything for everything.

it is like two stubborn kids and in the end one of them takes their ball and runs home

I dont fly AVBL and correct me if I am wrong, but can't AVBL F/A's go on MU if they dont recieve a trip for the following day? On another subject how about doing away with unlimited PVD's that only benefit the very senior. Many of the Reserves were being released at the beginning of December and no one could get a PVD.

Yes they can go on MU but by the time MU gets to them the senior folks have picked over the good stuff and all that is left is 3D carib or 3D multi leg domestic trips.

Up until a few years ago PVD's were limited, this is one of the things that the Union or someone wanted so they got it. As far as we are concerned, either AVBL needs to go away or the sick list need to clear before the plotting window for AVBL has ended.

I realize it is now the norm for companies to pay extra for people to work on the holidays but I just really do not get that entire concept. I took this job knowing it was open all day every day. I knew (because I was told upon hiring) that I could be expected to be at work at any time when my department was open. I remember nodding my head up and down when being asked if this was agreeable to me. So I guess I just do not understand the idea of paying someone extra money or incentives to come to work and do their job like they are expected to do and like they said they would do. If times are good and the company wants to give me a bonus, great. If times are tight and that is not in the budget, so be it. Why do people keep expecting more?

Because they gave up enhancements that were negotiated in "good faith" to "help" the Company, only to see those dollars go into the pockets of the Senior Management. Add to the fact that this is the "do me" generation, and you have your answer.
