I'm just trying to be realistic in the times we are in. And quite frankly I'm sick of making bankruptcy wages. I want something in my hand now. I do NOT believe they will go back to the table again. Both sides have said they won't, I tend to believe them I guess b/c I'm used to be screwed by them. The three main reasons I'm voting for this are:
1. No legal right to strike
2. No looming CIC arbitration decision
3. Last I checked oil is creeping to $120 a barrel and predictions are that it will go higher
How do you explain Continental announcing another 2% pay raise for their rampers this July? Are they in negotiations? Is oil relatively the same for them as US AIRWAYS? Do they have the right to strike? How do you explain United airlines just announcing another 1% pay raise for rampers on Friday? How do you explain our mechanics getting a 30% compensation boost the same day oil hit its intraday high of $112.75? How do you explain Parker proudly announcing a 200% bonus for next year for the bosses?
Stop using the 'oil is high' rhetoric against a fair fleet service contract if you can't explain why the high oil prices didn't prevent the above questions I posed towards you. Until you answer the question, your opinion is 'prejudice' against fleet service and in error.
This contract is inept under any conditions. Further, if you believe Randy's latest lie how US AIRWAYS is going to wait till 2009 then you must have believed his lie in August when he said by letter on August 10, "Your choice will be between accepting the proposed changes now, or waiting for traditional negotiations to resume in 2009." Randy Canale [IAM website, August 10].
He's lied so much he has to bring back lies that we already saw and quote him on.
The truth of the matter is that you must fail to see the realities of the environment. The biggest variable in this environment is merger activity that will pump in up to $25 billion in this industry according to analyst [this year alone]. This Merger activity is the trump card that trumps oil. That is why employees are gaining wages and benefits at other airlines.
These negotiations were being fueled by merger talks. Merger talks are not going away and neither will Hemenway if this is voted down. Hemenway came back even when it was said he wouldn't, and he will keep coming back until it is finally accepted.....he will do this because he has to.

The only thing this contract has that was fought for and is the best in the industry is positive space travel for Union Bosses.
