Fleet Service topic IAM 141

You know what, freedom? I attended protest rallies in Tempe. I screamed bloody murder at our get-togethers. We whisted while we walked down Mill Ave and really annoyed passers-by. I was out there for the 30-foot rat a few months ago. What did it get me? Thrown under the bus at the end of 2011. We were screaming for unity and solidarity but I had no idea that it only meant PHX and nowhere else. If I would have known that, I would never have bothered. If what my buddy in PHX told me is correct (we will consider it hearsay) RR was the one who was guns-a-blazin' for the outsourcing provision.

Fleet service at field station pay dues like everyone else and deserve fair representation. If what I am hearing is true (that field station rampers were tossed to the curb because they didn't perform work actions or attend rallies) then perhaps DFR was denied.

28L or 10R ,
You are 100% percent correct. if its any consolation to yeah the hubs back east have your back and are fighting for you
as far as RR and guns-a-blazin.... RR is trying to get on that DL list at the VP at large level so his motives are exactly that . FOR himself
Randy annotated him with placing him on his ticket . SO now its time for RR to try and repay Randys generosity by getting PHX a YES
vote. Sadly its for the wrong reasons..
...

Thanks for the kind words. link it under your handle so others can click it.

I'm still waiting for giantsfan to answer my questions. His opinion is unsubstantiated and 100% prejudiced against fleet service.

Randy Canale's letter arrived at my house today. He justified this "Wal Mart" contract by saying oil was high, Aloha went bankrupt, and the stock is low. What a clown! He has like 40 days left so I'll take comfort in that.

Randy doesn't want us to pay attention to this environment that is being fueled by up to $25 billion in merger activity. The same environment that has produced wage increases at both United and Continental just this week. The same environment that has produced 200% bonus plans for Company bosses next year. The same environment that has produced a 30% compensation package for the mechanics. Randy himself is prejudice against US AIRWAYS fleet service as he continuously fails to publically recognize the single greatest environmental variable that is known as M & A. If I use a fishing metaphor, it would be the equivalent of 'catching your limit'. Unfortunately, Randy chose to start the motor up and go home with less than half his limit. Hemenway came back even though Randy lied to us in August and said he wouldn't. You can force Hemenway to come back again by voting No. Hemenway will be back....because he has to be back.
Afterall, if anyone doesn't know that merger activity is fueling these negotiations, they must be living under a rock.

I'm sure most of the people got the "spin" letter by now(I just got mine today).

Good point Tim however I think you left out the best part & I quote:

"Your District 141 Negotiating Committee has used all of the IAM's resources to reach this t/a in a very hostile environment. Your committee believes that this agreement is worthy of your consideration and recommends ratification. Are we satisfied with this agreement Hell No! We always strive to get the most we can, and then try for more. But we have an opportunity to provide immediate gains to all Fleet Workers nearly two years our normal amendable date, and that cannot be ignored!

What a crock of S&^T! If you weren't satified why even bring it to our attention? And your telling me the most you can get for fleet is $1.48 & hour with doubletime on your 6-1/2 & 7th day? What a joke!!

Brother if anyone deserves a response it’s you , yes you have fought the good fight , and personally you deserve better .

When we were at those protests I for one had no inkling that our field stations would still be thrown under the bus . What can I say ? This is the pound of flesh that us airways aka AMERICA WEST MANAGEMENT requires of us . Brother , when people here in ARIZONA a low cost of living state are screaming that they can’t get by on these wages for much longer , what do you expect is going to happen ?

As to the unionized state of our field stations , my sources tell me that they HAVEN’T been pulling their weight , PERHAPS if they had fought harder , been MORE vocal , we wouldn’t have to face this .. PERHAPS if the EAST had pulled THEIR weight and fought harder , been louder we wouldn’t be here .

But we are , and now we must make the best of it that we can . There’s a thought running through my head right now , and it goes like this “those who don’t fight die “ . How many besides yourself came down from all of our NUMEROUS field stations eh ? HOW MANY EAST COAST GUYS DID WE HAVE THERE ???

That’s right PHX has been fighting this fight by herself , and we’re done fighting now …

What can I say brother ? That I want to live on this #### wage that the company pays us for another 3 or 5 years ? Because I CAN’T , honest to goodness I can’t make it anymore on this .

I’m sorry .

Apologies for my crankiness. This TA has left me crestfallen. Think it is called "grief".

Here is my story: I come from a long line of labor activists. My great-grandfather was shot by a British soldier during a miner's riot at Merthyr Tydphill. He brought that activism to America and beat it into every skull that he could, literally and figuratively. My uncles were shot at by a National Guard unit after refusing to go back to the mines (by order of Harry Truman during a state of martial law). One of those uncles was injured in the Battle of the Bulge several years earlier. The list goes on. Family members on strike for months on end - living on charity and a small strike fund. Beat by hired thugs. In some unfortunate circumstances, they dealt the beatings.

It was one for all and all for one. There wasn't any of this trash where they said, "Well screw those guys, they didn't attend rallies." They sacrificed no one. They did it with no complaints.

If I knew all of the ruckus in Tempe and PHX was just for PHX ramp, I would have sat at home drinking beer and watched the glowing box. What we have here is not a union. To treat it is as such is mere folly. There is no Easter bunny and professional wrestling isn't real.

While I am here, I would like to reiterate that it was only hearsay that RR supported outsourcing. It seems I misunderstood. An angry friend left a voicemail and it seems that I put what he said together with other things that I have heard from others and came to what may be a false conclusion. I "misspoke" as Hillary Clinton would say. In as much, I should not have relayed information from a phone call from my friend but I did not reveal the identity of my friend. That friend could be anyone, Black or white or Hispanic, male or female. I'll call the friend as soon as I get out of my depressed funk. Beer and Zoloft covered Wheaties for me. 🙁

Don't you know that Randy is a United Airline Board of Director? He doesn't give a rat's arse about you. He signed this "Wal Mart" contract and it will be his last act of treason against fleet service. He will be voted out in around 40 days after we reject this garbage contract that isn't worth the paper its printed on.

The information about this contract starts here: Highlight Sheet of New Tentative Agreement

I think most of us here know he’s going to be voted out , I think HE knows he’s going to be voted out , I think most of the NC also know their all gone … that’s why I urge those of you on the east to take his THREAT to transition the west into the east’s contract VERY seriously , he has NOTHING to lose ….

You east guys just LOVE going for broke , take it to the wall and then over the edge right ?

Let me tell you what will happen if you DON’T vote for this and Our union PRESIDENT follows through with his threat which will end the NEED for TA talks .

Our 19 cities are GONE , welcome to the horrific world of the 60 day rule my tossed under the TRAIN brothers and sisters .

Class two cities , your trapped until oh say 2011 …. Enjoy your lower than need be wages …

Class one cities with our topped out folks , well you make enough right ? You didn’t really need that raise or the extra holiday or sick allowance after all right ?

Yes I know ,I’m playing the FEAR card , but don’t cha have to admit it could be a very REAL possibility ?

One last tidbit , if you don’t vote this in and we DO merge , our negotiating position will be so weak your all going to rue the day my friends .

If you think we will merge again , VOTE yes , OTHERWISE when we end up in talks at our newly merged company , how beneficial do you think it will be to have the most desperate baggage handlers in the industry at your table ? That could be the reason randy will transition the west , he actually could be looking out for you future .

Can I ask a stupid question from the working man's view?

Why is there even any language of contracting out any stations at all? (Please don't tell me from a money saving company suck perspective please).

Unions are supposed to save jobs, keep jobs & help the working man out. Canale being the "True Blue" union man he is should have never even let that be put into an agreement.

P.S. Yes, yes I know there are no stupid questions just stupid people.

Ask a 'stupid' (not really a stupid) question. You will get stupid answers.

FreeRandi,

Don't you understand he can't do that. The west would have too much of a change in their contract to just sign them over. What part of that don't you

understand ???? I know its hard to believe but he represents the west as much as the east. He needs your vote to release those DUES that have been in a

escrow account for 2 yrs and is costing the IAM 20,000 + per month. You want to know what your yes vote is worth.........20,000x22 = $420,000 + your

dues for who knows how long!

Let me tell you about RR. R was one of the first people I met when I joined America West. He was always a classy guy and a top-notch individual. He always had time to talk and showed genuine concern for his co-workers. I love RR and so does everyone that knows him. If you knew him you would love him, too. He is definitely one of the greatest and most memorable people you will ever meet. We can only hope that he doesn't lose his soul by dancing with the devil.

Hey Freedom maybe PHX & PHL can have a celebrity union deathmatch. I got PHL 2-1.

Also please tell me what happens to that wonderful raise you get now that you'll have to pay for health insurance? Your 401k match is gone. More money means more taxes. I want a equal raise for us all across the board believe me. We have to stick together though. We voted down the Sept. agreement & they were "Shocked" (miss you buddy) by that. We vote no again & maybe the company starts to get the message that we're not gonna be the stepchild anymore. Then they pull out offer #3 from the drawer.

P.S. What if the we merge with UA? What will the West do? UA Has DEN already, & good business out of SFO. What happens to LAS or PHX and all of their brothers/sisters?

Thats exactly it...the IAM isn't a union at all its just a business. And what do we know about businesses? Its that first and formost their needs come first and employees are second.

Say what you will about the TWU contract but it didnt barter away jobs like the IAM does.

not to get off track .

But want to possibly explain 1 major difference between our Fleet NC team VS MTC neg team.

this came from the words of one of the NEG on the MTC side. Al stands up and starts his speech on the economy and oil prices and yada yada yada . the NEG team STOPS him mid sentence and says OUR MEMBERSHIP IS LIVING IN THAT WORLD WE KNOW .
so CUT THE B/S and lets talk .. THE MTC side had the B*lls to stand up to the CO and say enough is enough.

our side the FLEET sat there led by mr CLOWN oops I mean MR CANALE himself and sat in awe of the great Uncle AL and ran for
cover .. THERE lies the difference in what we got VS MTC .. MTC stood up to the company FLEET DID NOT.

How is this deal different from previous proposed airline mergers (i.e. Delta-US Airways in 2006, America West-US Airways in 2005, or United-US Airways in 2000)?

Unlike the US Airways proposal, this transaction is about addition, not subtraction, and will expand Delta’s global and domestic reach.
The significant overlap of the US Airways and Delta networks in the East would have resulted in a significant reduction in competition, hub closures, substantial job losses and fewer flights to smaller communities. That is why it was opposed by employees, customers and communities. Delta and Northwest’s complementary route networks have little overlap and there is no need for hub closures.
No other airline merger has given employees the same opportunities to benefit from the success of integration and the financial rewards of stronger performance. All U.S.-based employees of both airlines will be provided equity in the new airline. International employees will receive cash awards in lieu of equity.
Previous airline mergers have been opposed by employees. This transaction is supported by Delta’s pilots who have reached an agreement to extend their collective bargaining agreement through the end of 2012.

Read up on this FAQ page, interesting read for the NWDL merger.

"There is a lot at risk, but the IAM is prepared. We will oppose any merger that negatively impacts our members, passengers or the cities these airlines serve.

District 141 will work with the entire IAM Transportation Department to preserve the contracts, pensions and union representation rights that you have fought so hard to achieve.

Monitor the District 141 website’s Merger Watch page, available at www.iam141.org/airline_mergers.htm and sign up for email notifications for the latest information as this situation develops.

Fraternally,

S.R. (Randy) Canale
President & Directing General Chairman"

UNLESS of course your a US F/S member then we will throw your COC language away so that YOU CANT reap any of the rewards
of a merger.

your good buddy RC

freedom sez,
"PERHAPS if the EAST had pulled THEIR weight and fought harder , been louder we wouldn’t be here . "

You want to send the TA back , FINE send it back , what the hell do you guys think is going to happen ? moses is gonna pop on down and tell DP to be more generous ? Have you ever heard the saying don't bring a knife to a gun fight ? well we've got a stick and this company has an uzi and they ain't scared of us .
